Not sure if this is chem or physics but i came upon it in a chem book so here it is,

Is electron capture and positron emission the same thing? like what are they and how do they differ?

also what is a negatron?

Cheers

Positron emission is when a proton decays into a neutron and emits a positron and a neutrino. Electron capture is the same thing but instead of emitting a postron it absorbes an electron from one of its shells. They are similar in that they both decrease the element number by 1 but are distinct, electron capture occurs instead of positron emission when the nucleus has less energy. Thats about all I know about it.

A negatron is another name for electron that failed to gain popularity.
