Please help me with basic mathematics

I want to refresh some basic mathematics and i have difficulty getting some good notes on signed numbers

Can anyone suggest me some good books to learn basic mathematics especially about signed numbers .

   I would have thought most maths textbooks for a school Mathematics course for people between about 11 and 15 years of age would have a section on signed numbers (often called positive and negative numbers).  I haven't reviewed all of these books so I wouldn't like to single out one book as being better than others.

   You obviously have internet access.  I find the BBC Bitesize educational resources are usually of a high standard and free to access.  So I would recommend their site:

I like to read e-book or books instead of watching videos .

I wear glasses so it is sometimes difficult to watch video tutorials .

I see that you have satisfied your original request and also received some excellent advice.

So I will just add a couple of extras.

Firstly as you see you can always come back here and receive good quality help at any level.

As too your subject matter:

You have asked about signed numbers  -  a subject that many have trouble with.

To fully  get the most out of this you need

1) To properly understand the use of brackets (parenthesis)

2) The standard order of arithmetical operations 'BODMAS' or 'PEDMAS'

Then you will be flying.

This sounds fearsome but if you can correctly interpret these    X = 2  +  (-3)  &   Y = 2 - (-3) you will be well on your way.

How did you get on with my little quizz ?

It was designed to demonstrate something very important.

Mathematics uses the + and - symbols for two different things.

This sign of something which you asked about    -   which is a property of that something

and addition/subtraction   -     which is an operation or process on that something

Many people get confused about this basic point.

Sorry for the late reply .

I was going through some books looking for some good explanations and practice problems

And i found a good book for free .

Chapter 1.2 in it is about

1.2 Adding and Subtracting Integers

Addition of numbers with like signs ,

positive number + positive number = positive number

negative number + negative number = negative number

 

Addition of numbers with unlike signs ,

The sign of the result is the same as the sign of the number with the greatest distance from the origin.

 

 

That was very helpful .

There is also practice problems in that book .

That book is really good for basic mathematics and elementary algebra .
