Trump floats election ‘delay’ amid claims of voting fraud

He's going to try and mess up this election, I think.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is for the first time floating a “delay” to the Nov. 3 presidential election, as he makes unsubstantiated allegations that increased mail-in voting will result in fraud.

The dates of presidential elections — the Tuesday after the first Monday in November in every fourth year — are enshrined in federal law and would require an act of Congress to change. The Constitution makes no provisions for a delay to the Jan. 20, 2021 presidential inauguration.

Trump tweeted Thursday: “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”

.....Last month, Trump told supporters in Arizona that “This will be, in my opinion, the most corrupt election in the history of our country.”

He doesn't have the authority to move the election; presumably he knows that.
But this announcement has done a marvelous job of distracting people from the latest economic figures.
He may also be setting the stage for claiming that the election result is wrong and he should stay on... forever.

This is just more shitflooding. Sew doubts in order to eat away at consensus. Say unreasonable things to dumbfound your opponents, and claim everything they say is fake. He's simply corrupt, immoral, ignorant, and the worst person possible for the position.

These are the tactics of corrupt and ruthless businessmen. We may not think much of politicians, but this is one thing they (normally) would never do in the US.

Yes, I don't think there is a trick he isn't going to pull.

Never thought I'd see the day that third world countries, banana republics and military dictatorships have to send observers to the USA to verify that the current President doesn't try to pull a fast one in the upcoming election.

And the way he's mis-handling the Coronavirus pandemic, waiting until it is safe to have an American election, would effectively make him President for life.

If he was ahead in the polls by as much as Biden, there would be no questioning the system, period. If it was a closer race, he'd only raise a little doubt about trusting the results. Now he's flat out claiming it's going to be wrong no matter what, so he must be expecting to lose. I'm betting he uses all that outrage to launch his new fascist focus news channel.

Distractor in chief strikes again. Launching weapons of mass distraction like a black hole to pull our attention away from 150,000 US covid deaths, increased jobless claims, billions in relief bill tax dollars funneled to his friends, outrage over the reopening of schools, fascist bootlickers sent to beat the shit out of peaceful protestors, brown children locked in cages, healthcare stripped from tens of millions, record high temperatures across the nation from climate change, Russia putting bounties on the heads of US soldiers, firing career officials who spoke out against him during impeachment, letting his cronies out of jail, channeling funds to his own businesses and golf courses and asking world leaders to host events as his properties, and all of the other hundreds of things which happened this week both known and unknown...

But now like flies to shit or a cat chasing a laser pointer everyone is talking about rescheduling an election.

Flood the zone with shit.

Trump faces rare rebuke from GOP for floating election delay

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump repeatedly tests the Republican Party’s limits on issues including race, trade and immigration. On Thursday, he struck a boundary.

GOP officials from New Hampshire to Mississippi to Iowa quickly pushed back against Trump’s suggestion that it might be necessary to delay the November election — which he cannot do without congressional approval — because of the unfounded threat of voter fraud. They reassured voters that the election would proceed on the constitutionally mandated day as it has for more than two centuries.

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley was especially blunt: “All I can say is, it doesn’t matter what one individual in this country says. We still are a country based on the rule of law, and we want to follow the law.”

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu vowed his state would hold its November elections as scheduled: “End of story.” Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who leads the House Republican Conference, said, “The resistance to this idea among Republicans is overwhelming.”

The top Republicans in the House and Senate, who have spent the past four years championing Trump in Congress, also distanced themselves from the notion of a delayed election.

It was a rare rebuke for Trump from his fellow Republicans, but one that might not last. There was little conservative opposition to Trump’s broader push to raise questions about the legitimacy of the Nov. 3 election, including his suggestion later Thursday that a delayed result because of mail-in ballots would be a sign of fraud.

The Atlantic report claims that sources in the Republican Party at the local and national levels confirm that “the Trump campaign is discussing contingency plans to bypass election results and appoint loyal electors” in red battleground states.

According to sources in the Republican Party at the state and national levels, the Trump campaign is discussing contingency plans to bypass election results and appoint loyal electors in battleground states where Republicans hold the legislative majority. With a justification based on claims of rampant fraud, Trump would ask state legislators to set aside the popular vote and exercise their power to choose a slate of electors directly. The longer Trump succeeds in keeping the vote count in doubt, the more pressure legislators will feel to act before the safe-harbor deadline expires.
