Diode light color question

Picked up some Ikea Dioders Led strip type.

Any idea why multiple connectors in series would cause downstream lights to be a different color and if this could be utilized without decreasing the lifespan of the lights?

Was thinking maybe due to increasing resistance.

After some reconfiguring did get them working nicely for bias and under couch and bed lighting.

Emitters (especially new generation Luminus LED’s) can tend to have different color rendering depending on the current. They tend to be warmer color at low brightness and cooler when you feed them more current, this is the case with the new SST20 emitters. Also same emitters can differ in Cri and color temperature depending on the batch, in most cases its a lottery when it comes to pinpointing emitters with the exact same performance, the big manufacturers (Cree, Luminus, Nichia, Samsung, Philips) save the expensive full spec batches for automotive industry these days. Look up led4power website if you want to buy quality tested emitters, its a well established small store amongst flashaholics ran by a flashaholic.

Ah okay. Thanks!

They seem good quality but was just very surprised when saw different colors result while only using standard parts. In theory the connectors are only to help with corners.

Thinking be good for doing dual tones or to save when an additional strip might be required nearby.

Look out for the CRI index when purchasing any LED’s. Anything above 90 CRI will be pleasant to the eye regardless of what color temperature you get. Nichia’s are the way to go as they have 93+ CRI emitters available commercially. You can get warm 2000 Kelvin emitters which will look horrible because they do not have a high CRI factor. You will need to look outside of IKEA if you care about the quality of light in your home like I do :)

LEDs are manufactured to a spec and then sieved into different bins of quality depending on how close to spec they are. Nichias are at the top for colour rendering but they aren't as luminous. Their diodes are heavily coloured and the warmer they are the greater the brightness penalty. Diodes in the raw  are actually blue or red I think.

Yeah, not from Ikea, but haven't been real happy with many of the LED bulbs so far. Main issue is also having wireless connection ability.

Thinking a wifi switch might work better to allow a range of bulb options.

The led strips do a good job though, completes the Cyberpunk aesthetic nicely. Could use a timer/smart plug and maybe a light diffuser but all are fairly simple to rig up.
