Career in science after a criminal conviction

Long story short, several years ago I made a stupid choice, and circumstances surrounding that choice left me little option but to plead guilty to a felony charge. This incident was the first and last time I've ever been in any kind of legal trouble. I am currently trying to better myself, provide a better life for my family, etc. I am very interested in pursuing an education in material science, which I k ow covers a wide range of potential career paths. My question is: do I have a real chance at landing a job in the sciences with a felony conviction? By the time I would finish earning a bachelor's it will have been over 10 years since conviction. I'm just trying to find out if it's even a realistic possibility, or will most, if not all doors be closed to me?

Thanks for any responses.
