Can we create a superbrain?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to create a "superbrain" using modern or near future technology? Something that at least 10 times larger than human brain? Can we create a new race of conscious creatures in this way? Would they be thankful us for their creation? How can we make them good and morally perfect?

Lol. Well played.

I'm confused why size is relevant here. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "superbrain?"

Perhaps, but we can only speculate about what will happen until the technology becomes more advanced and we can actually find out.

Not a 'super brain',  far from it,  but  before modern technology selective breeding over centuries was well on the way to creating a complimentary intelligence in Domestic Dogs. What could be done there with modern technology, information and greater ability to search out desired traits could be utilised to further that past section process incredibly, if it was still seen  as beneficial.

Not so common as to define the species by any means,  but there were and are still (rarely)  found ,  some amazing examples of intelligent responsibility in dogs.

Environmental selection was hijacked by the Kennel clubs to meet their own conditions of physical conformity before environmental fitness and ability of response could be considered.

The result has been a decline in mental and physical fitness, and response ability to environment that continues.

So if you are talking human, I think it could be done, but eliminating environmental selection to do so would more likely bring unintended consequence.

Appreciation, morality and other traits not considered, or their roles and manifestations not fully understood could see the benefits of this 'new race' become more a liability or responsibility than intended.

Selection in the hands of a few rarely benefits the environment beyond their own  understanding and knowledge. Losses of other valued  traits happen more gradually and pass  unnoticed with generational memory.

We are limited because of the size off  our skull.

A brain that's 10 times larger is rather heavy and then you need an elephant-like body to support it.

Possibly. Or assume it is not going ta walk at all, which is of course a worse scenario.

Whales have a "super brain". The sperm whale has a 18 lb. brain.

they work diffrent.but a human brain. well, humans would need to be bigger to account for it. we don't have the tech to augment it yet but possibly. it would need more time to do stuff. (possibly a fraction though. it would have many problems. certain things could be enlarged or made smaller if you don't care about personality but it could cause unforeseen problems. (mabey in a long long time)

Moderator Note

The question is rather speculative and somewhat ill-defined. I have moved it to speculations for now. However, while the simple answer is "no" it would be good if OP could clarify what they think would constitute a "super-brain".

Yes, I think a superbrain has a greater neural density rather than outright size; rather like the evolution of computers.

I don't think that is adequate either, the size of different regions that process certain senses such as smell etc also vary in size depending on how critical that sense is to the animals survival. Brain size is a poor measure of a creatures ability to problem solve, as much of the brain is used in other processes such as senses.

Correct but is it known or assumed what sort of neural density in what parts of the brain, people like Albert Einstein had? The neural density  can increase (or decrease) the amount of information which can be stored.
