Does brain power determines eye sights?

Recommended Posts

Is there a connection with brain power and eye sights? Take insects they have tiny brain and horrible eye sights!! Two balls would not work,  they need many eyes!!! Dogs and animals eye sight are not as good as people but way better than insects!! As they got a bigger brain!! People got bigger brain than dogs and animals and better eye sight.

But does size of the brain also determine the eye? If people got bigger brain they would need only one eye ball? But if people got really dumb they would need 3 or 4 eye balls or more to compensate for the bad eye sight?

As in the future people could get bigger brain and bigger head and only one eye ball.

Yes, but not in the sense you mean.

Well, there eyesight is adequate for their purpose. It is good enough, for example, for bees to view the dance of their hive colleagues that encodes directions to rich sources of nectar.

John has pointed out that eagles have better eyesight than humans. It is much better. This is true of many animals. Dogs rely much more on scent than humans. There eyesight is correspondingly less effective.

It is more that the size of the eye (and its character) determine the size of the portion of the brain that deals with visual input. We have two eyeballs to deliver stereoscopic vision. One eyeball would be a comparative limitation.

People are only going to get bigger heads if they also get bigger hips, otherwise there will be a lot of death in childbirth and an end to that genetic lineage.

The brain, eyes and the rest of the body evolved together to adapt to changing environments. Our eyes our not a product of a big brain. If you somehow increase the brain size then that will not change your eyes. Having one eye is also pointless for people because 2 eyes give better 3D vision. An African elephant has for example a lot(x3) bigger brain then we have but most of its neurons are located in the cerebellum, probably related to sensorimotor specializations.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24971054   An elephant has 2 eyes....

bigger head and one eye ball...like cyclops? :)

Dragon flies have pretty good eyesight- good enough to catch other insects in flight.

It's not clear that people would benefit much from higher visual acuity. The energy needed to power the brain to process the additional information would be a cost that probably wouldn't be offset by any potential advantage.
