Thomas Wood
is it used just for making 'bangs' or can it acctually shoot something p.s hope it's the right forum
darth tater
That stuff is acetylene gas like is used in cutting torches and it makes a helluva bang even with nothing in front of it. My guess would be that it burns too fast to be useful as a propellant in a firearm.

akcapr
it cant be that scary. its only gas. And its not like its mixed with alot of oxygen either. On the other hand i have never done anything with acetylene.
H2SO4
yes, acetylene acts like H2 in oxygen.
Mendelejev
You know, you could go fishing with carbide. Take a large can and fill it with carbide. Place the lid on the can en make some holes in it. Threw the can in the water... water goes in the can, reacts, gasses will form and after some seconds ... Kaboem. By the violent explosion, all the fish will come to the surface and can you catch them with a fishing net !!
