  1. It does iNow...look how hard it is to stabilize the US's economy. We are in no position to be going around trying to start up a third world countries economy, tho I wish we could. Do you have an "effective solution" ?
  2. It was just something I threw out there, its not like I planned for every contigency. And if I were going to hire armed security...Id make sure they were capable. And no, this would be easily solvable if I were a cold heartless person. Id side with the ultimatum, and every time I was forced to kill a US Citizen, a hundred somalian people would be executed with missiles. This would stop any future threats, but it is incredibly evil and cold. And yes, cost is a problem for this...what is your propsal iNow? The only thing people like this understand is violence, so dont say diplomacy. **************Excellent point Dudde
  3. That explains why I break into song and dance every time I'm walking in the near vicinity of an unkillable, likeable cad.
  4. Everyone's probably already heard this but heres like the only one I know: When NASA first sent a man in space they realized that pens do not work in zero gravity. They spent a decade and tens of millions of dollars and finally invented a pen that could write upside down, under water, anywhere. The Russian used a pencil. **Runs screaming for the protective armor, only to trip and knock himself out**
  5. I cant believe the pirates were stupid enough to let all three of themselves be exposed...did they not know that there would be snipers just waiting to take them out? But...I just cant side with an ultimatum that would kill one of our people. I think this was handled beautifully, and this is what navy SEALS are for. They did an amazing job. I think that we should just arm our ships...dont tell me that that will just get the crew killed. They have the high ground. If there is a security detail of 20 men with SAWs and high caliber rifles, maybe some anti-ship turrets on the ship...four guys with AK-47s dont have a chance. Back then, merchant ships armed themselves, and they were successful in defending themselves, only now, our ships could have 20 times the firepower any somali pirates could muster.
  6. Dammit...I guess they can legally add stuff. Bear's Key, I have never seen it, and Ive worked in places up until the cigarettes are packaged. Maybe they do it in between or even at the very end. Thanks for the info YT. And good luck Bear's Key.
  7. No, They dont add much at processing centers, some "pre-preservatvies" if you will, but they really just reformat the tobacco. Its actually quite an interesting place to work, and it smells good lol. The only things Ive seen added were preservatives and non caking agents...i think. All those "chemicals" are present in all organic things. But yeah, I wouldnt accept it without proof. You should go have a look yourself if you really want to see about it.
  8. Ok, so you are saying that since this is a finite universe, incredibly large numbers exist only in logic and math? And that anaology was helpful...but it hurt my head lol Thanks.
  9. Why isnt it? And could you explain the boundary thing to me?
  10. By no means am I a mathematician, but I think to say that infinity has no bearing in the natural world is, well, wrong. I cant see how space could be finite. WHAT is outside the boundary then?...Do i get to the end and then there is nothing? I cant take another step? This seems more confusing to me than saying space is infinite. The [math]\lim_{x\to\infty} \ x = infinity[/math] To me...this is a common function, with common applications. Its basically saying, well what if I add just one more? And going by that, numbers in the physical world never end. I may be wrong about this, but thats how I see it.
  11. Touche I see your point padren, a very good one might I add. But you still didn't change my mind, i like my irrationalities (don't worry, i'll keep them to myself) lol but thanks
  12. No, like I said, I would have answered the same if he had thrown out any one of the gajillion of gods that are out there. I would have thought "Zeus, thats kinda refreshing and odd" but thats about it. Double Standards like mine hurt no one and do not inhibit thoughts of any kinds, so they are harmless
  13. Ah, well we cant afford a 5,000$ steamer and the barns with which to house it lol Its the most efficient way for us. no, we truck it out to a processing center in London kentucky...a LOT of tobacco goes through there lol So, as someone whos worked on a farm Bear's Key, have you ever seen us add ammonia or cyanide while laughing maniacally? lol Ignoring the fact that it would kill our crop
  14. Ok, i can see what iNow was pointing out, thanks padren. iNow: I DO hold a double standard in that aspect. I believe that religion is a personal issue and inspires many a great emotion and morals. I didnt attack his grasp of infinite God-creation because I saw no harm in it. He can certainly have his own opinion in entirely speculatory fields as far as Im concerned. HOWEVER, I WOULD have "attacked" his logic if he was going to build a bridge on the basis that "God will help me" or if he was going to try and redefine quantum theory on the basis that "the bible says so". It seems kinda jerkish to me to question someone's answer, when you dont have one yourself (not that you shouldnt question things, but the OP is obviously a kid or something). His logic is sound in that his explanation is as plausible as everyones elses...a cyclical universe is an option as is a God-created universe.
  15. I don't think I ever made the claim that religion was right or logical...I explicitly stated that we have a LOT of logical inconsistencies...and that a God-being has no right to exist. i just tried to answer the OP from the terms of both a Christian and someone who knows a little math. And then iNow asked a question I still don't understand. I just wish I knew what he was asking, he might have had a good point or something. It was more of a statement-question lol .
  16. I'm not trying to be a complete jerk, or pretentious or anything, but it would be so HELPFUL if you could try and spell correctly. A typo or two is ok, and I make more than my fair share, but sometimes it's hard to understand what you're saying. And most of the sci on that show is speculatory at best, yes.
  17. Don't kill me Sisyphus, but Im going to respond to iNow. iNow: What was your question? The way I interpreted it was, "The only reason you arent calling the OP an idiot is because he was speaking of your faith". What with all your unicorn farts and accusations of my double standards. Please ask a direct question with no (or a little, just be sure its discernable) sarcasm. And please tell me what double standards I hold...I think most religions or non-religions, have their share of fundies, and their share of reasonable people.
  18. FINALLY someone else used the word "praytell"...my friends almost had me convinced I had made that word up... im so happy But ive got a whopping one rep point.
  19. I have abandoned many of them Sayanora. The ones that are ill-founded and absurd, like the Earth was created in 6000 years...thats preposterous. I also agree with the Big Bang, and evolution, which "contradict" my religion. Im only ignoring the fallacies because SCIENCE hasnt come up with anything better. You ask where my god came from, I ask you to explain the temporal anomalies of a cyclical infinite universe... You ask me how he can be omnipotent, I ask how you how matter first came into being and to explain singularities. These paradoxes may be answered eventually, but not right now. And i shy away from them, because I need to. Because my faith isnt strong enough to continually question a being that has no right to exist. Its my business, I just tried to answer from a religious/scientific context, and iNow attacked my nuetral response. And I have studied infinities...in series, in integration, and in differential equations. Seems to me there is alot of extrapolationing when dealing with these areas.
  20. Yes, during these last few years, our plants in a swag area have grown to be at least 8 foot. I have to grab the middle just to get to be able to top it lol And the smell is HORRIBLE in the beginning. Its acrid, and can quite literally bring tears to your eyes. but after a week, it becomes pleasant and sweet smelling. Like coffee in the morining And a ban is stupid, it violates smokers' rights *Trying to get Inow to fight again lol* I like you iNow, you entertain me
  21. A single tobacco plant is quite large, YT can attest to that. It would make quite a few. Imagine how many cigarettes a single, typical 120 lb. bale of tobacco would make! One of our had 32 leaves!!!! But then that was a monster, far from average. Very intersting approach YT. Cutting them down at full height wouldnt quite be feasible for you would it? lol good luck in trying the new types YT
  22. What double standards? I respect all religions...I would have answered the same if the OP had said "Can Allah concieve infinity" or whatever. I just think that people shouldnt look down on others becuase they have a religion. You wouldnt believe hom many times people have looked at me, surprised that I had faith in the intangible and unscientific. Faraday was a very religous man, and one of the greatest experimental scientists, IMO. It seems to me that you are doing that...maybe Im misunderstanding you again INow, but you seem to very combative.
  23. wow you make the beds and everything? well, at least theres one person that understands the process and not just what they hear What type you grow? But then again, you dont have to buy the type that been engineered to be resistant agaisnt blackshank and stuff do you? ...where do you let it cure? How much do you grow? certainly an acre would do you for a year...
  24. As a Christian, I believe he can do anything he wants. As an engineering major, I prefer to not pay attention to all his glaring logical fallacies. I actually kind of think it arrogant to assume our minds can understand infinite values and such, stuff like ABSOLUTE nothingness relative to reality. Our minds arent built to think in such terms. We may eventually understand these concepts, but to just point them out to tear down others' faith is wrong. I know this isn't what you were doing, but some do do that. Thats my opinion.
  25. This is a really interesting problem I wont be of any help, I can barely do Hooke's Law lol. I just cant wait to see what you all come up with.
