  1. Is there any cool science science stuff that I should ask for? I already have a huge chemistry set, an erector set, a microscope, a lot of electronics components, and a very good telescope.. Is there any advanced physics stuff, or cool astronomy stuff I should ask for. I am asking if I can renew my membership at the planetarium, but that is all I can think of.

how about a subscription to a cool tech. magazine like maybe 'Popular Mechanics' or something?

  2. The goats should probably not look too human like if they are supposed to be slaughtered and eaten, unless of course if you want Thor to be an evil cannibalistic monster with a taste for human flesh.

how about machines? something portable that can be pull apart (slaughtered) and then reconstructed (ressurrected). If any of the parts or mechanisms (bones) are broken, then the machine cannot be rebuilt in the original form. I got the idea from the Shiva sisters in Final Fantasy.

  3. beats the chris hemsworth versiontongue.png

nice work with the shadow background...'modern' war hero and ledgendary god, all in one breath.

  4. I think this is in the wrong category . . . . . on the wrong forum . . . . . on the wrong planet . . . . .

i think its awsome!!!tongue.png the wolves as guys...nice. I would have given them spiked collars though... (that would have been MY personal touch) I cant get over your project...I'm starstruck. Dude, you have some serious talent

  5. And as with anything medical, a person cannot be forced to take the treatment that would make them live forever. It would have to be elective, not compulsive, in order for people to accept it.

there is the answer to your question of ethics....YOU CANNOT FORCE SOMEONE TO STAY FOREVER YOUNG!!!!

Even the most die hard Alphaville fans might choose to live a natural if not normal life.

  6. As it turns out the image was neither photo shop or fake but a sculpture.. go figure... unsure.png

A SCULPTURE!!!! are you telling me that somewhere out there there is a sculpture of a snake at the side of the road? Imagine driving and looking out of your window to see that

  7. On a different point you hit though, it really would be interesting to see how this transforms social relations, and how people would respond to it. Where you might normally marry a blue-eyed girl if you want blue-eyed kids, now you might want to marry a girl who can afford blue-eyed kids, still we've yet to see how humans will respond to this possibility and if it really would register (a lot of science, e.g. quantum mechanics, tends not to register or affect human behavior). I think you are right to predict humans would continue to feel the need to have their kids resemble themselves, most of the times, even if it meant less fit kids.

i think the whole idea is a bit shallow. i think the 'designer' baby's freedom of choice would be compromised. we are born with certain features like the colour of our eyes. As far as we know, it was not our choice, blame science, god, fate, whatever... When the baby grows up if he doesn't like his brown eyes he can CHOOSE to wear contacts which changes his eye colour to blue. Why should that decision be made for him. What if the kid likes brown eyes and finds out that his eyes were made blue by his mom because SHE felt it was cute.

  8. random person: would you like to live for a 1000 years

    me: No

i guess the whole 'not aging' thing would be okay if whatever process it is that is developed to stop aging is availabe to everyone, no matter who they are or we would end up in a situation like the one in the movie 'in time'. i don't think humans were meant to live forever. it is not natural. we would lose humanity. (would it make us less human?)

In the words of E.M Foster 'death destroys a man, the idea of death saves him'.

  9. I believe the fact we are social animals is something scientists say to dupe us.

Doesn't a sapient individual acknowledge that a person can do as they please in life?

What utility do "rules" actually bring?

nope, science did not dupe you. We are 'social animals' and rules serve as a guide so we don't end up in total chaos. imagine a city with no rules, no laws, no police force. now add to that equation banks, stores, drugs and guns. discarding rules would be like trashing the corner stones of civilization.

  10. a solution of sodium chloride and lead nitrate is given....you need to seperate the sodium chloride.

lead nitrate and sodium chloride would result in lead chloride, this can can be optained by filtration but its sodium chloride you need....

P.s sorry about any wrong spelling and grammer

  11. how exactly do yo find the number of moles of 1 element in a compound of a given weight

i know to convert mass to moles the given mass of the element is divided by the mass of one mole of the element.

  12. We... seem to... be caught... in that cake's... gravitational pull, Captain. Recommend we send down a landing party with forks set for "dessert", sir.

It's nice to finally confirm that Jupiter's core is made of flour, oil and cocoa.

Please, nobody tell swansont about this thread. The triple threat of puns, Star Trek and cake could warp his... I mean, be the icing on... look, he's got important work to do and can't risk getting fired over threads like this.

    He really kneads the dough.

he can get fired for this??? hey that cake really does look great..

  13.

My sort of two-wheel fury is the self-propelled kind - so rage against the machine might get me fitter and faster, but also run over! I find myself whistling, humming, and singing to make up for the lack of proper music. What is worse is my subconscious chooses exactly the wrong songs - I often find myself singing the flip side to Queen's Bicycle Race - Fat Bottomed Girls - when I am behind a large lady on a bike; the mental cues all make perfect sense - but still very embarrassing.

queen huh? well to be honest your subconscious choose a good song. not bad, not bad at all

  14. Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen; performed by Jeff Buckley. Hackneyed choice - but it always crops up in these polls for a good reason.

Mozambique - Bob Dylan. Perfect holiday music - in fact the album Desire is nearly always the first thing I play whenever I hit a beach or summer walk.

Whilst I was using itunes my most played tracks were Aretha Franklin "I say a little prayer", REM "Radio Free Europe", Nils Lofgren "Keith don't go", Joy Division "Love will tear us apart"

wow those are some good choices (halleiujah is epic). How about VICTORIA by KRYPTERIA and I MAY HATE YOU SOMETIMES by THE POSIES
