Freezing rain has started here, it's been below freezing two or three days now, very unusual for this area. The weather says sleet and then snow, I just can't wait

Nancy is home, I got her settled in, the dogs are ecstatic, and I am very glad to have her home. She is not allowed to move from one place to another without me hovering over her but she'll get used to it!

My Wife, Nancy, fell this morning and broke her new hip, they can't operate until monday. I'll be spending most of my time there, wish her luck...

A few minutes ago I found a flatworm in my yard. It is easily 18" long!

I love to dive on this jetty, I've done it so many times I recognise some of the larger rocks!

Does anyone have any knowledge about fluorescent light ballasts? I just got a replacement ballast and it has two wire too many!

Try looking into LED replacements for the T12 fixture, they are available online. LED's will give you more eye pleasing color rendering (look for 80 CRI or 4000K color temperature) and you will quickly get return on your investment as they consume a fraction of the energy of the traditional fluorescent or incandescent fixtures (easly 100+ lumens per 1 watt with the new LED emitters)

I have 750 LEDs of various colors on the aquarium for plant growth but the light makes the fish and plants look funky. The Fluorescent is just to make the light look more natural. Plants require light that is not particularly pleasing to the eye, mostly red and blue, so the LEDs are mostly red and blue. With marine tanks it become even more important to have very blue shifted light, shallow water plants and corals still use red light but below 33 feet there are no red wavelengths. If you cut your self diving lower than 33 or more feel your blood looks fluorescent green.

I'm looking to build a working "but small" model of my pelagic fish aquarium design. If anyone knows of a source of salvage cast acrylic tubing, I am looking for three pieces 24 or more inches long and at least 24" in diameter. 1/4 inch would be preferred but I can probably use as thin as 1/8. Thicker is not a problem, scratched, foggy, can be polished out with a little elbow grease and power tools both of which i have. Give me a heads up if you know of some, I have been looking locally and I can't find any so far. New the stuff is just astronomical in cost, at least to me.

I once had a Saeng motorcycle windshield made of polycarbonate, great stuff but generally too easily scratched for aquarium use. Lexan will break, I hit a car broadside and the windshield shattered like thousands of tiny plastic sparkles, still remember it clearly to this day watching the windshield turn inside out and exploding... Acrylic is commonly used in aquariums now days due to it's light weight and resistance to breaking compared to glass.

Going out to do some fish collecting today. Checking on a reported population of invasive shrimp at the stat ports near where i live.

Received my first shipment of fish today, I am planning on reviving my aquarium business this year. The fish arrived in great shape, spotted bullheads "Ameiurus serracanthus" very pretty fish. http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/tn_img_2333_1_20090120_1051078695.jpg

Leaving for the hospital in a few minutes, I'll be gone for several days, hopefully not as long as the last time. I'll be back!

I got a flu shot quite some time ago that seemed to give me the flu (probably already sick with it), and for many years I didn't get the vaccines. I was lucky for a long time, but a few years back it clobbered me good, bed for six days straight (Netflix and tea are all I remember). I get a flu every year now. There's no co-pay either, so it's all free.

My "Web Root" anti viral system that came from Best Buy with my computer has suddenly started holding my sound system hostage. It continuously makes a loud beeping noise and flashes a warning telling me the subscription runs out in a few days. Best buy says it cannot be turned off unless i buy a new subscription... Or delete the program, but if i delete i no longer have anti virus protection... choices choices...

I'm back! again! Terrible storm, between power surges and exploding transformers I got off easy with just a few burned out appliances. Lots of flooding 15 people dead so far..
-
Power went out last night at 21:23, just came back up. Lots of storm debris to clean up, I saw what caused the power to fail, shorted lines just 30 feet or so from my house. Four huge explosions.

Well Matthew is history for me, just a rain event for the most part. It affected inland areas worse than the coast. Lots of rain and flooding, I will not miss Matthew...
