Caught a snake in my yard today. waiting for my mouth to heal after tooth extraction so the titanium plate that used to replace my lower jaw can be replaced because it broke. Only the second time the doc has seen that happen and it was the result of a car wreck, I just clench my jaw too hard. So much fun so little time...

Hah, Moontanman that's so true.
We have beautiful blue-tongued skinks in Australia. Where I grew up, there were a lot of them. I used to try to catch them to play as a child but I've since then stopped trying to capture everything I see! They used to know when it was feeding time and come to steal my cat's food

I've been away, I fell in the yard and broke some ribs. Not doing much typing or anything really...

@koti I beat the door into place with a hammer, it's difficult to shut and open but I think I'll have to buy a door from the local parts yard. I messed it up pretty bad...

Guys, I need some help, power went off last night and when I went to start up pc it wouldn't Come one. It said the cooling fan wouldn't start up so the computer couldn't start up. I am getting ready to take it apart and see what is going on. Any tips as to how to proceed?
Where in the wide world of sports would I buy a cooling fan locally? Am I likely to be biting off more than I can chew or do I need to take it to a repair shop?
Any hints/tips will be apreciated.

Interesting, I just cleaned up the heatsink and replaced the cpu fan. I didn't remove the heatsink from the motherboard and the fan was just screwed into the fins of the heatsink. The heat sink was full of fluff and dust but a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush removed all traces of the stuff on the fan and heatsink.
The fan will not run despite turning freely, I thought maybe the fan frame was being torqued out of shape when I attached it to the heat sink but I made sure it still turned freely. I guess i could have received a bad fan, I'm not sure how likely that is.
I am still amazed at how empty the tower was, it's been a good ten years since I worked on a computer, maybe that is why there seemed to be so little "stuff" in the tower.

Well I am back, just now got my ISP back along with tv and phone, still lots to do for clean up. I just posted to my blog about the storm, a bit stale now almost three weeks in but still relevant.
http://blogs.scienceforums.net/moontanman/2018/10/02/hurricane-florence/
The days without power were a bitch, lost all my food in the freezer and refrigerator. House was brushed by a large tree falling, blew away my privacy fence, took down several trees in my yard. Fruit trees took a beating, I lost a lot of fish, flooding ruined my freezer. All in all it was a crazy three weeks..

Does anyone have any knowledge about fluorescent light ballasts? I just got a replacement ballast and it has two wire too many!

Try looking into LED replacements for the T12 fixture, they are available online. LED's will give you more eye pleasing color rendering (look for 80 CRI or 4000K color temperature) and you will quickly get return on your investment as they consume a fraction of the energy of the traditional fluorescent or incandescent fixtures (easly 100+ lumens per 1 watt with the new LED emitters)
-
I have 750 LEDs of various colors on the aquarium for plant growth but the light makes the fish and plants look funky. The Fluorescent is just to make the light look more natural. Plants require light that is not particularly pleasing to the eye, mostly red and blue, so the LEDs are mostly red and blue. With marine tanks it become even more important to have very blue shifted light, shallow water plants and corals still use red light but below 33 feet there are no red wavelengths. If you cut your self diving lower than 33 or more feel your blood looks fluorescent green.

My wife, Nancy, passed away the morning of the 16th in her sleep. I am lost, I don't know what to do, I keep thinking I'll ask Nancy what to do then it hits me again.

My "Web Root" anti viral system that came from Best Buy with my computer has suddenly started holding my sound system hostage. It continuously makes a loud beeping noise and flashes a warning telling me the subscription runs out in a few days. Best buy says it cannot be turned off unless i buy a new subscription... Or delete the program, but if i delete i no longer have anti virus protection... choices choices...

Bad news, my step mom suffered a home invasion, not only did they beat her up they burned down her house. Onlookers were able to drag her out of the house. To make matters worse my dad died, I'm having problems getting information at this time since my step mom and my dad were my only source of info...

Have just read this now
Moontanman,
Sorry to hear of your loss and the invasion of your stepmother's house. As long as there is breath in a body and a will to carry on, people inevitably do...
We can only give our good feelings to you and I will pray for your troubles to decrease. Please realise that there is always light at the end of this tunnel.
Keep hope alive!

My cousin Jeff Stewart died this morning. Jeff was more than a cousin, he was my brother in so many ways, the way only a real brother can be. One of the few people I have ever known who was basically a good person no matter what situation he found himself in. It's difficult to wrap my head around the fact a world can exist without Jeff in it.

Going into the hospital tomorrow morning, August 16th, at around 05:30, nine hour surgery and a week in the hospital, my jaw will be wired shut so this will be an unique opportunity to talk to me and get a word in edgewise! Come see me if you are around New Hanover Hospital!

Well lets see, the US and UK have expelled Russian diplomats, they are expelling ours. Putin claims to have unstoppable nukes, Rocket baby wants to ply with his little rocket and Trump pays money to be spanked...
What could possibly go wrong!
I just applied for a renewal on my aquaculture license, I'm adding three new species to my aqua-farmette.
So should I go one like nothing will happen our spend my time digging a hole under my house?

Has google merged with yahoo? I woke up this morning to a google page with yahoo in the search space but with google still listed as my search engine and missing some of my long term apps list.

It looks like my Cancer was taken care of by surgery, my first PSA test came back as too small to register!

We almost made it as a species, almost managed to actually be civilized, I'd like to think a few pockets of our species made it to threshold of being civilized beings but it hardly matters now. The downhill slide back to something ever more distant from civilization might be slow but i doubt it, I am probably too old to see the slide pick up too much speed but the curve has begun it's unstoppable downward turn. There were a few rays of hope, the enlightenment being the brightest...

This is Moontanman actual My E-Mail has been compromised, let me know if you receive any odd e-mails from me and do not open them...

Is it really that bad? I changed my e-mail password and the spam messages stopped. I ran virus and male ware programs and they found nothing. I am getting ready to go into the hospital for surgery, I'll be gone for at least a week. When I get back I'll let you go into details. Weird that only one of my e-mail accounts was compromised and nothing else. I blacked out again today, took me most of the afternoon to get it back together, getting old is not what it is cracked up to be..
-
Yes, it can be that bad and it can get you blacklisted if you become part of a botnet. See how it goes while you are away.
Take it easy mate and focus on getting well. PM me your infected email address, if you want, and I'll reply with one I don't mind losing if it's a problem. I'll let you know if it's suspicious.

It looks like I'll live, my left is smashed up pretty bad and I can't remember how I did it or why my car door is messed up. My only memory is driving home from the pet shop and seeing my vision go double but my memory stops there...

A few months ago they operated on my spine which went great and I’m good as new (tissue from L5/S1 verterbra was pushing against my spinal cord paralising my left leg and foot) I was lying on the table, there were 5 or six doctors and assistants getting things ready for my procedure. I jokingly said to one of the young assistants who was getting the tools ready, that if I watch those shiny tools for a bit longer they wont need to use anesthesia on me. She replied that „now all you got left is prayer” To keep it short - they needed to use more anesthesia on me after that
-
Cars are expensive to fix, I did a little hillbilly engineering on it and wired it shut for now. I'll take prayers in the light of how they are ment. I had a doctor actually abuse me this last time, he insisted on cutting my face with no anesthesia. I sprained my biceps trying to hold on the the bed rails, I bent one of them. They left an 8" long piece of 1/4 inch tubing in my face by accident but refused to believe i was in pain. The damn titanium plate broke and had to be replaced, they took a piece of bone from my hip to replace the bone that had to be removed. The two and half years of this was a bitch... I know, complain complain...
