  1. Looks a cool toy, I expect we will all soon be scanning our food. https://www.minds.com/blog/view/491749598549778432/world%E2%80%99s-first-pocket-spectrometer-lets-you-measure-the-molecular-makeup-of-nearly-anything
  2. Not a single organism, unless you want to call Earth a single organism, A few liters of Dna seeded on a planet with the potential to create multiple life forms each encoded with chunks of this stored information that would self produce. Perhaps some of this information will help decide what form the organism will take, we can look at the ways nature has inspired technology http://www.bloomberg.com/news/photo-essays/2015-02-23/14-smart-inventions-inspired-by-nature-biomimicry but was it first "technology" that inspired/programmed what we call "nature". Perhaps each organism has a unique set of sequences that when combined together will give us "42 the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything".
  3. but it could be spliced into dna that could "represent a viable life form/forms", Perhaps this as already happened on earth and what we see as "junk dna" in all species, may when we are able to put together and read will someday answer all the questions of life universe and everything. DNA seems to be the best option for storage, dna computing also looks promising taking over from silicon, once we are able to read said information at an higher speed. "IF" we are not alone in the universe, surely advanced civilizations would of also used Dna for storage, storing all of their knowledge and achievements, and would of seeded many planets with this dna as a record of their being.(we civilized species love our monuments) Even us humans, if we knew we where in for an extinction event would rally together and what to leave a record of who and what we where, perhaps launching an Ark into space which would more than likely contain dna.
  4. i clicked the hints, the puzzle seems a decent puzzle. I got it after 2nd hint.
  5. There was a program on bbc1 yesterday, I cannot remember all details has I had a friend around who never stops chatting. There was a segment about some band who have managed to put all there music to dna, it was something about first turning it to binary code then coding it to C,A.T,G, IT then went on saying we could encode all human knowledge into dna. This made me wonder if we encoded all human knowledge to dna, could we then theoretically seed a planet with this encoded dna, and whether these new life forms would have all our knowledge within them, If this was possible in our future to seed another planet with this dna, would they follow the same path as humanity thinking they where creating their own history, when all the time their history was already encoded into their dna by us. JUST found this article encoding all human knowledge into a forest, http://motherboard.vice.com/read/one-day-a-forest-could-store-all-of-humanitys-knowledge It amazes me some of the wonders we do find in plant/animal dna that advances our technology/science. Perhaps we have more encoded into our dna than we realize.
  6. "We"?, Sometimes there is nothing wrong with "musing over yet untestable speculations", you never know where it may lead, or spark an idea that can lead to something "testable". Not everyone enjoys this freedom of speculation but some do. fractals/relative sizes have always interested me. Has with picture above proton/universe, "WMAP provides strong evidence that the observable universe is flat". We know at the LHC a proton is highly flattened in it's direction of motion. I could then speculate "our universe" is flattened in it's direction of motion. A proton is a ocean of quarks, so if the missing universal "dark matter" are hypothetical "quark stars" it is not beyond reason to compare a proton to our universe. http://profmattstrassler.com/articles-and-posts/largehadroncolliderfaq/whats-a-proton-anyway/
  7. I myself like to "speculate" on these ideas, whether this universe is a fractal of something larger and the quantum is some how a fractal of our universe. There are neutron stars and hypothetical "quarks stars" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark_star, "quark stars" could be the missing dark matter (even black holes), If you take a proton and it is basically "quark soup/gluons", could these possible "quark stars" then be the protons that make up the "matter" of said "universal brain" ? It is all speculation but with the minds in this forum, could be molded to a decent sci fi model. sometimes it is good to let our minds dream. proton/universe
  8. Thank you, good advice, think you must be right, I thought it was the official site. I must admit this laptop is very slow at the moment My avast antivirus did disappear "bar$tards". i'll have to check bank. i suppose i am vunerable now/
  9. today my pc was acting up(now on old laptop), I could not get into my emails, in the end tried to get in touch with yahoo by phone i got number online, there where 3 numbers each gave an engaged tone then cut me off, i then tried next number 08002796226 (yahoo email support?) this was answered straight away by indian "gentleman" within a minute he had control of my computer, said i had been hacked from canada, for security he wanted date of birth telephone number, then he started flicking through my systems, after 10 minutes he said they could sort it for 380pound, which i refused then he asked for 200 which i refused he dropped to 70quid, i told him he is yahoo support how can he charge me?, he mumbled something and then said 50quid, i refused and asked who he was and what department he was with, he hung up on me still leaving me hacked. my pc is no longer even able to excess the internet, all, programs are corrupted, will not restore, (i can now access email on laptop). I have a feeling this indian was part of the hack, to extort money, i have phoned the number again but no one answers. i use avast antivirus, plus i changed my password, will this be enough? ps the indian chap while in control was going through all my program files even saying look that is where the "hacker" is taking control of your system in realtime, will this laptop also be in danger? cheers.
  10. with my question I never asked about a "before". I was asking about relative sizes. I admit I see our universe has a fractal of a larger universe, it is why I mentioned "virtual particles". So I was imagining a virtual particle(universe's) expanding into an older universe,(dark energy?). And how the entities in newly expanding universe would comprehend the old universe that it is expanding within, when they are many orders of magnitude smaller. rough sketch showing a "virtual universe" expanding within a older universe, slowly overlapping. There is a lot of talk about dimensions where physics is slightly different, so I was trying to imagine a fractal universe where a proton was the size of a star and how they would then view other objects has their universe overlaps ours and whether these objects would be similar to how we view dark matter. But I wanted to know if a proton radiates heat from its internal kinetic energy. (which would then seem like a star to these fractal entities. And if a proton was like a star to them how would they then view these larger objects like boulder/asteroids/planets/stars from their smaller view point.? Perhaps "dark matter" is part/objects of a older universe we are expanding into which we do not yet comprehend(belonging to two universes).
  11. Irrelevant.(also not every ones opinion) many worlds/multiverses. I was not asking any of those questions. I was just wondering what certain objects would look like to us if we where many orders of magnitudes smaller. Let me put it another way, If "Earth" was shrunk until a lone hydrogen atom was the size of our sun, how would that proton/atom look to us from Earth? what sort of heat would it radiate? How then would rubble/asteroids (Oort cloud) look to us from Earth? Please put aside the problems how light would effect us seeing these objects.
  12. This is not a theory just a question, I was wondering about relative sizes. People often talk about what was before the Big Bang, Or what our universe is expanding into. if our universe was a virtual particle expanding into another universe just like a virtual particle that pops into existence into our universe, I was wondering how "entities" in this newly expanding universe would see the universe they were expanding into, while not realizing their universe was expanding into another universe. If from their view point a atom of "our hydrogen" was a star, how would they actually view "our" planet/stars/galaxies? what if this newly expanding universe was expanding into somewhere like our Oort cloud, where a single atom was like a star to them (a swirling of dust a galaxy), would they see larger rocks/rubble/planetoids like we see "Dark matter"'?
  13. Your Avatar was changed perfect for "The Banning", it throw me at first until I understood the "fuller picture". Now I believe it allows you a greater freedom, "A change is as good as a rest".
  14. Sprites and jets are interesting They are thought to exist on other planets sprites in Earths Atmosphere er
  15. Not sure if this as already been posted, but it you want your name to go to Mars on the Insight mission there are only a couple of weeks left. http://mars.nasa.gov/participate/send-your-name/insight/ I have my boarding pass

  17. It seems a good idea if it can be scaled up to reach 350celsius, I had a look and some parabolic systems can reach into the thousands of degrees celsius. I looked for solar furnaces but they seem to be mainly for heating homes, I did find these solar ovens that look look they could possibly be adapted http://gosunstove.com/collections/solar-ovens/products/gosun-mini This electrical home made arc furnace also looks pretty cool http://lifehacker.com/build-a-homemade-electrical-arc-furnace-with-lantern-ba-1691381102 It would be cool to produce your own fuel from waste plastics+solar energy.
  18. Not new news, but first time I have seen this process. http://www.sciencealert.com/holy-crap-watch-this-guy-turn-plastic-back-into-oil Surely this can be adapted to work with another process that has waste heat energy, maybe somewhere like a foundry that as a lot of waste heat energy that could perhaps be adapted to use this tech? maybe even incorporated into https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste-to-energy_plant Edit: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/indianews/article-2727285/Waste-not-want-not-New-technology-turn-plastic-petrol-diesel.html I believe anything like this is going to be good for the environment, We all hear of the amount of plastics in the ocean that enters the food chain. Most of these plastics are from accidents in transport from country to country. http://www.theguardian.com/vital-signs/2015/feb/12/science-plastic-oceans-study-fish-pollution-worse

  20. I would not neg anyone in the lounge, I like Dim/Sun it makes us sound like a buddhist monk "Dimsun". I do not believe we fully understand what will happen with these high energy collisions, it is why there are so many theories. We hear of parallel dimensions/universes http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/565315/Scientists-at-Large-Hadron-Collider-hope-to-make-contact-with-PARALLEL-UNIVERSE-in-days Maybe the collisions are like a pin prick to a dimensional balloon. Maybe we do breakthrough to a parallel universe and it is seen as a act of war, Which made me think of your Nostra quote, has dimensional entities swarm out of the gateway we kindly made for them.
  21. We at GALACTIC NEWS had to smile when we seen this one of the last transmissions from Earth.
  22. Myself I believe lasers are about the only option, I unsure yet if there are lasers that can vaporize junk completely, but in time I expect there will be. I seen this, about maybe putting a laser on the ISS. http://gizmodo.com/scientists-propose-putting-a-laser-on-the-iss-to-blast-1699316224 I noticed in the space junk graphic in post 4, that there are at least 13 nuclear reactor fuel cores also 32 nuclear reactors in earth orbit below 1,700km, I have not checked this out but these must represent a problem that needs to be sorted, Not sure what would happen if these came crashing back to Earth?
  23. when I look at visuals showing space junk I wonder how long it will be before it is not safe to have a space station or perhaps even satellites. How do we even start to keep track of all this junk?
  24. Very tragic, but it is just one of many tragic events that happen all the time, I always wonder about the "effect of hazardous materials" that are released into atmosphere(long term effects), all these events are beginning to add up. oil spills/nuclear melt downs/toxic waste spills the list go on. Is safety sometimes neglected for profits? I wonder how many of these events go on in a typical week? Just noticed this event in russia moscow, http://beforeitsnews.com/middle-east/2015/08/nuclear-war-in-my-neighborhood-gigantic-plume-of-black-smoke-causes-panic-in-moscow-video-2507324.html The earth can only dilute these pollutants so far before we must reach a tipping point? Today
  25. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/china-explosions-aftermath-photos-inside-blast-zone-show-devastation-tianjin-1515295 There was a thread recently "how to destroy the world", I think we are already making a good start.
