  1. You seem to now nitpick the points you want to answer and ignore specific points you don't, as well as make strawmen. This is getting pointless.

Oh, and yes, I'm sure you're the gorgeousest man ever. I'm so lucky there's a monitor in between us or I don't know if I could have stopped myself from switching sides. You'd be surprised...

Which of your questions did I not answer?

You seem to now nitpick the points you want to answer and ignore specific points you don't, as well as make strawmen. This is getting pointless.

Oh, and yes, I'm sure you're the gorgeousest man ever. I'm so lucky there's a monitor in between us or I don't know if I could have stopped myself from switching sides.

Just in case I need to explain, this:

-- is something we've already covered, and showed it is an irrelevant strawman claim. SHOW ME a woman who WANTS to have an abortion. No woman wants to (or, at least, very very marginally few, if at all). They might decide they NEED to, but no one goes happily and merrily to have an abortion after lunch.

    Yes? Goodie.

Do you have any other claims against abortion? It's getting to the point where *I* can make better points to your side than you do, and where's the fun in that.

By "want", I meant that they think it would be in their best interest, and decide to do it. Who would actually "want" that? I'm so tired, I accidentally slipped back into my native language for a second. I really should get to bed. Somehow, I know it won't happen. laugh.gif

  2. But actually, pomegranates have nothing to do with it. The name, permanganate, follows IUPAC naming conventions for inorganic ions (look up naming of oxyanions).

Like perchlorate, but with manganese, I know about that stuff. I meant to ask if pomegranates had anything to do with permanganates.

  3. I don't quite understand, what is legitimate rape and what is "not at all"? As far as I know, rape is anything non-consensual. "Legitimate" seems to be unfitting in any sort of definition here. Do clarify.

We have different opinions on what women are, it seems, and how responsible they can be with their own bodies.

But what do I know, I'm just a woman; what would we women do with ourselves if men wouldn't have had the responsibility and sense to tell us what we should do with our bodies!

Why, we might have all gone off and gotten ourselves recklessly pregnant all the time, and then had the audacity to use this painful humiliating procedure as an afterthought birth control! You're just being responsible in trying to make sure we live properly.

    Thank you.

Rape, of course, is non consensual. "Not at all" is consensual. There's nothing in between.Nowadays, on the rare occasion I stray into the city, I can hardly go anywhere without being attacked by young women and prostitutes, but this might just be because I am so gorgeous. I don't take advantage of them. I specifically avoid bars, but then, I don't drink anyways. The younger generation is different than my own. Maybe I am just thinking about the people in my area, but I found my post to be accurate. My question for you; Why don't you think I respect women?

    So... irrelevant? Great. Next claim.

    Spot the differences:

"Some men use the gym to spot potential targets for rape. We should close all gyms!"

"What is the percentage of 'some' men?"

    "Very small, yet existent."

    .... Ah.

"Some people drive their car while intoxicated, and cause horrific accidents. We should ban driving!!!"

"What is the percentage of 'some' people?"

    "Very small, yet existent."

    ... Ah.

"Some people use guns to rob or kill people. We should immediately ban all guns!!!!!!!!"

"What is the percentage of 'some' people?"

    "Very small, yet existent."

    ... hmm.

Should I continue, or is the point clear?

People shouldn't be allowed to have abortions just because they want to. You need to have a valid reason, such as rape. It's not irrelevant. Every life or life to be matters.
  4. Wow, dude, I think you broke the record on Godwin's law. CONGRATS!

So, obviously you need to brush up on your fallacies. First, "People" don't say fetuses aren't human; scientific evidence has trouble separating the first stages of fetus development from a cyst. And since "people" don't consider cysts "human", the argument is a valid one. Much more so than that of the nazis, thankyouverymuch.

I'm trying to decide whether or not I should just let you continue digging this misogynistic hole you're in, or if I point out the amazingly enormous chunk of irony in all of this and save you the trouble.

Good of you, dear man, to allow the women who were legitimately raped not to suffer longer. Of course, if the woman was "just" raped, she should shut her mouth and bear the fruit of the wonderful event. It is her privilege.

We have different ideas about what life is. Life starts at conception, that is my belief. I don't believe any stage of fetus could be called a cyst. Life is life. I don't believe illegitimate rape exists. You were raped legitimately or not at all.

What percentage would you say is "some"?

A very small, yet existent one.

  5. You don't think abortion is a valid birth control..... so do women. If you really think women just go and pop into a clinic to have an intrusive procedure done by inserting sharp tools into their vaginas and scraping the inside walls of their uterus as a form of birth control, then this argument is not just a strawman (which it is) but you are also quite condescendingly uninformed of what is involved in this procedure, and how it affects the WOMEN.

Funny that you start this with how you're supportive of women's rights, but seem to think women would prefer doing the occasional abortion instead of taking a pill or asking you lot of men to wear a condom.

    Smart lot, we are.

I know that women do not want to have abortions. I do not post strawmans. I know what happens in an abortion. Some women, however, refuse to be responsible with their bodies, then do not want to pay the price later, at the expense of another's life.

  6. Unless I experience legitimate rape, you mean. That would make my body reject the pregnancy automagically anyways so I won't have the luxury of begatting said child.

Legitimate rape is the one time I find abortion acceptable. One incredibly ignorant person said that. Definitely the worst my party has to offer.

  7. My pomegranates are partially poisoned with permanganate. Perchance a preponderance, or perhaps a plethora of pleasantly perfumed persimmons would politely pacify your provincially pagan principles?

Prior preparation prevents poor performance. - my motto

  8. Mitt Romney would throw you out the plane's window if he heard you talking like that! Well, after he took away your birth control pills and demanded you raise every child begat from your promiscuous ways, without government help, of course. Maybe you can borrow the money from your parents.

Are we still thinking suffrage, equal pay for equal work and the right to personal bodily freedoms are liberal stances, really?

You post mostly about chemistry subjects. The fact that girls couldn't possibly be interested in chemistry will come as a shock to hypervalent_iodine.

Pray tell us, from a conservative, openable jet window perspective, how do girls talk? <bats eyelashes innocently>

I'm very supportive of woman's rights, and I'm okay with birth control. I do not think that abortion is a valid means of birth control. People justify abortion by saying fetuses aren't human. Well, Hitler justified the killing of millions of innocent people by calling them less than human. What makes abortion better than that?

I'm not saying girls can't be interested in chemistry. Far from it. Is making charcoal, in your opinion, a post a man or a woman would most likely have started? I couldn't tell you how a girl talks, unless it's one of the younger generation that says "like" after every other word. But I can definitely tell. I knew hyper was a girl, before someone told me.

    I hope this helps.

    Oookay...

This, in fact, is quite offensive to women, thank you.

Can we move on from this sidebar distraction of what should and shouldn't "shock" someone into thinking a woman would or wouldn't act like, and go back on topic?

Okay, the conservative part was a bit insensitive. But the fact is, women are less likely to be conservative than men. I do respect women, you know. I don't turn them into sexual objects, or base my opinions of them based on appearance, like so many men do. I really do think we need to clear up this issue of my gender with phi, I won't say anything like that again. Sorry.(edit: was the -1 really necessary?)

  10. This didn't sound like you were a HE. Maybe you're the one trying to cause confusion.

That was a quote from an old movie. No one responded, so I thought you all got a good laugh at it. Seriously though, you thought I was a GIRL all this time? I'm a conservative, post subjects only men could possibly be interested in, and definitely don't talk like a girl. Frankly, I'm offended.

  11. When replying to individual sentences separately from the same poster, I like to highlight the sentence and use the Insert Quotation button up on the Post Toolbar (third button from the right). That automatically puts the quote tags around what you've highlighted.

Her ideas are being attacked. Big difference.

Not to single you out, Trip, but I'm starting to believe we're really harming ourselves with the whole liberal/conservative tag when we apply it to ourselves like a blanket. I'm really liberal about drug laws (even though ibuprofen is the only drug I use), but I'm pretty conservative when it comes to the clothes we let our kids wear. I'm liberal about education but I'm conservative about free markets (really conservative; I think we shouldn't be subsidizing oil, sugar and coal). I hate the fact that US prisons house 1 out of 4 prisoners on the planet (are we really that awful?), but I do want to take violent criminals off the street, yet I still think rehabilitation should be the goal. I think most people are a blend of stances, many overlapping on common ground, and the stereotypical labels just make the ground hard to see.

Well, you think she's a he, and she thinks you're a mod. How confused are you now?

Phi, isn't it immature to call people she's? Or are you talking about someone else? I am a HE. I know he isn't a mod, I just suspected that he was conspiring with mods to confuse me. Maybe you're the one who's confused.

I am registered as a pizza. I love being part of the pizza party! Thanks for inviting me, I'm glad I'm cool enough!

It's not HTML at all. It's called BB code. You use [] instead of <>

Then you're obviously incapable of reading anything more intellectual... including the majority of material we discuss here.

I'm perfectly capable of reading intellectual things, I just think the guide used an awful lot of words to say not much at all. Short, and to the point is my style. I've never heard of bb code before, is the only difference what you said?

  12. So this is a quote. You already know how to do this, it seems.

What I usually do is hit the "Reply" button and then inject my own ending quote tags when I want to address a point. Like so:

    (left bracket) quote (right bracket)

    text I am addressing

    (left bracket) /quote (right bracket)

    It looks like this:

It's basically simple HTML tags. Make sense?

You're also being attacked by a moderately conservative theist. And I'd wager (aside from our European friends), that most of us here are moderates. I don't think many true liberals exist in the US.

Thanks. I didn't think HTML worked on this site.

There's also a tutorial that an unusually intelligent and handsome member made.

No offense, but that tutorial is one of the most boring things I've ever read.

Shame on you Phi! He already thinks that I'm a democrat, don't make it more confusing.

    Huh? You're not a democrat?

  13. Sorry about that. What I meant was, "ME" being a right wing conservatrive. i did edit it to make it more readable. Now, let's get back to Romneys plane windows?

I'm afraid I've lost you. Sorry.

Even ignoring the fact that nobody could instantly turn the economy around, Obama has a net creation of private-sector jobs. Having job creation is better than job loss, so by that standard, the country is better off than it was four years ago. But only if you are going to discuss facts instead of rhetoric.

Fact: more Americans are unemployed now than 4 years ago.

  14. Go to the religious section of the forum if you wish, but don't tempt me chilled one. I've probably been a conservative longer than you've been living.

Is your avatar Jesus? How was I tempting you? Right wing republican just isn't something you hear every day. How long have you been a conservative? I'm still pretty young, so I wouldn't doubt what you said.

  15. Worse: What if Godzilla ate the engineers before they could design the airplane !? If there is fire and they manage to stop it from spreading, or they manage to put it out before they all die ... you'll still need to deal with smoke regardless of whether the fire is fatal.

By the way, why are people upset that some aren't still discussing the matter of airplane fires anymore? That's actually not the point of the topic. It's politics, specifically regarding careless and inappropriate judgements made by politicians such as Mitt Romney. I'm the one who's off topic!

If you get off the plane, you can avoid this entirely. Don't most airplane fires occur during refueling? I really don't care if we get off topic or not. The original topic had just about as much said about it as could be.

  16. Hello Everyone,

This is William here from Kenya and I like to read books , listen music , watch movie and play games.

I like to read Novel book , Story book and Historical book. Some favorite book of mine are All the King's

    Men,The Big Sleep,A Clockwork Orange,A Passage to India,The Golden Notebook,Dark Reign,Secret

Invasion,The Final Night,The Doll's House,Ancient History Books,Books on the Age of Discovery etc.

Tell here about your favorite book.

What address do you want us to send Obama back to?

  17. I think we are way off the topic of dealing with how airplane windiows should be designed. But being a right wing conservative I simply found humor in you statement. Now, can we get back on subject?

A right wing conservative? I asked earlier if we could get back on topic, but it appears that people find it more entertaining when I am getting attacked by a horde of democrats. I'd like to see how one of you fares on a largely republican site, for instance, one discussing only religion.

  18. I just wanted to ask anyone if they think the word pomegranate looks suspiciously similar to permanganate. when rearranged, they look like:

PERMANGANATE PERMANGA O TE Pomegranate is just missing NA and has an extra O. Is this more than just a coincidence? Is it because they are both purple and messy? Was the permanganate ion first found in pomegranates? Is there any permanganate in pomegranates? Or is it just a coincidence?

  19. What else can I add? You made the statement about being a bankruptcy attorney, not I. And that's exactly where we stand at the moment, the country needs one. Talk about irony?

The country needs a bankruptcy attorney? You mean, because of the national debt? It seems like you took the pun differently than I intended. Obama said that we're better off now than we were 4 years ago, and I disagree. Less people have jobs than ever. I was trying to imply that bankruptcy attorneys are getting a lot of work, because we're worse off than we were 4 years ago. I'm humourously disagreeing with potus. Would you care to explain your take on it? People of different generations tend to have different outlooks on humour.

  20. I believe your little pun says it all.

Says all of what? A little more detail would be appreciated.

    @chilled_flourine

You've gone back to embedding your red replies in the quotes of others after you seemed to have figured out the proper tagging sequence. Do you realize that when we hit the Reply button on posts like that, NOTHING shows up? You're causing a lot of extra work for anyone who wants to reply methodically to the points you're making. Maybe I feel like it. You could just copy paste the text back in, that's what we did on the site I developed this habbit on. Admittedly, I don't get how I could respond methodically to different parts of a post, to be more relevant, instead of posting in a giant clump of text. Would you mind explaining in detail how to do this?

Regarding underpaid Chinese, I think you'll find they're paid just fine within the context of their own cost of living. They have a middle class that's as big as the entire US population. Their cost of living would be much higher if they had money to spend to warrant the production of more expensive, higher quality products. I don't think what you said is completely fair.

With regard to regulations, you're simultaneously arguing for relaxed regulation, smart regulation, and regulations that would allow for open-capable windows aboard commercial airliners. For a small government Republican, that's an awful lot of new laws you're going to have to pass and enforce on an already shaky industry just to keep Mitt from looking like he makes uninformed, emotion-based executive decisions.

I do not think the windows are a good idea. I think his idea was conceptually worthless, but not completely stupid, with modifications. No way would I ever want that new stack of laws to pass.

This is already a sore point with non-Republicans, this conflict of interest with a platform that wants small government, constitutional integrity and protection of personal rights, but also wants abortion denial, legislating morality through a combination of church and state, controlling women and increased federal spending for mega-corporate special interests.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure the airline industry has run some tests and conducted a few studies into the optimum systems, and don't really need any armchair politicians second-guessing their capabilities.

I have to admit that one of my biggest criticisms of Obama has been his insistence on appealing to all sides in his decisions, even when it became obvious that the Republicans simply wanted to stonewall anything that came from his desk, but I do see now that he was thinking more globally than I was. I really wanted him to focus on OUR problems, while the rest of the world was also feeling the repercussions of the tragedy that was Bush.

I still feel that a stronger US would be more able to help the rest of the world get back on its feet, and I also feel that Romney will be just more Bush, focused on strengthening the already strong top while the middle and bottom fall apart underneath. I keep picturing the classic movie denouement where the villains have pushed the self-destruct button, and as the former fortress shakes itself apart, the bad guys take off from the roof in their luxury helicopter with their hoarded wealth aboard and head off to their private island for some R&R.

I do hope you can realize the cyclical nature of things like bankruptcy, rigney. It takes a while for things to fall apart on a national scale the same as on a personal scale. People rarely lose their jobs and file immediately for bankruptcy. What were seeing here is the result of the Bush years (even though you may not want to hear it). Things ARE picking up now, what Obama has been able to do HAS been effective. Even with so much of Congress blocking his way just to make him look bad. The graphs are heading upwards, now is not the time to switch tactics by opening windows on the plane.

Edit to add: It's easy to see why the Republicans so desperately want to oust Obama. Eight years of Bush ended in disaster, and if eight years of a Democrat ends in a prosperous comeback (even if it is partly due to cyclical trends), I think the ultra-conservative trend in the Republican party (or possibly the party as a whole) is in real danger of being labeled toxic to worldwide prosperity.

  21. I'm not exactly sure, but I think they do let in oxygen anyway, but they facilitate it first. Right?

    EDIT:

Also, they have masks... you know? Those thingies that drop down? Yeah... it's also good that they are sealed and concentrated (no wasteful permeation/leakage or any smoke inhalation at all) because providing additional uncontrolled oxygen is just a great way to burn the people up faster! >:D

And what if the fire melts the mask? The masks are in case the cabin depressurizes. Not to protect from fires. If there was a fire, you would need to get out. If there was a fire while you were flying, you would be screwed if you couldn't put it out. Unless you landed on time, but that isn't too likely. Or you jumped out with a parachute, but I don't think that would be an option for a passenger plane.
