  1. Just re-read your post YT how come the HCl isnt needed? Where would the Cl come from? Table salt then displace?
  2. aha, I just have to heat it above 450C well it will be much higher than that anyway, 2birds one stone.
  3. phew that wasnt easy info to find (maybe me). So Barium carbonate will decompose at..... drum roll... .... .. .. .... 1300C. But I'm still not sure if it will be barium oxide (BaO) or barium peroxide(BaO2).

  5. lol. omg how silly. if they think you are going to blow anything up with a little tube of calcium carbide then maybe she should stop using the oven or the heating. I mean nothing nasty towards your mum, but that's the biggest thing I hate about this silly terrorest law shi!t. Using calcium carbide doesnt help you hijack planes. Tell your mum to read some information on it, an informed person is a good person. But it seems the U.S.As freedom is getting smaller and smaller by the day. Maybe they should ban aluminium and sodium hydroixde, hay that makes hydrogen much more explosive.

  8. I've been making Calcium oxide in my mini furance in my backyard. well most of what I make is calcium oxide, due to bad rock. I was reading about calcium carbide. I've read that if you heat calcium carbonate/oxide with carbon it will make cacium carbide. But I'm not sure what temps this requires. Any ideas? Also what temps does it require to turn barium carbonate into barium peroxide? Its just I'm moving in a week and I dont think my mum would be happy with me making a furnace in dround in the yard. So I'm trying ot get these chems made while I still can. And is there a good way of purifying calcium oxide? As I've got bad rock, I dont mind magnesium oxide, but I'm not sure what the other rocks are. or maybe I never heated them to a high enough temp. But I figured a way to know which is which by touch, as the calcium oxide rocks are softer.

  13. Yeah I know about thats, rat poison. But as I know Barium sulfate isnt a problme as it doesnt dissolve in water. Not thats I would eat it, lol.

  15. I know it can be around 12.5 with sodium carbonate, I think. Hummm.
  16. aha, I've done almost what you did but missed a few things out. I electrolysed my solder. I got the same dark grey at the bottom (which falled of the node give off hydrogen. I got a white matter from the other electrode. No chlorine gass just hydrogen being given off. I dont have any HCl so I couldnt add then. But I replace the elctrodes with carbone I got chlorine gas and very slowly a dark matter. This looked just like the Pb. But I was using a much high voltage, 7.5 I think. So I need to get my voltage lower then that is needed to split sodium chloride. Or use less salt and use just enough to eat the solder. I'm still not sure why you need the HCl. :/
  17. I was thinking, if I put this Barium peroxide in water it should make barium oxide. this will turn into barium hydroixde with the water. Then add some copper sulphate this will displace and give me copper hydroixde and barium sulphate. barium sulphate glows in the dark. something about heating it with charcoal will make it glow for along time. sounds fun to me,
  18. I've got some Barium carbonate. (got it about a year ago, thinking I could do something with it) Well I've been reading (a little). It seems I can make hydrogen peroixde from it. by heating the Barium carbonate -----> Barium peroxide. Then add this to sulphuric acid. But I've not got anymore informationnon that, but thats just something I've read, I've got h202 anyway. But is there a way to change this into barium chlorate? PS I'v now read it 2x that sulphuric acid isnt needed, hummmm....
  19. I've just been watching telly. And I've found out how/why I got a very bright light from my hydrogen oxygen burning. In the old days they used to heat lime this way to make white light. Thats what happened with my burner, Even history finds it way in... (the term lime light)
  20. aha, I think its finally clicked. I've re-read the thread, Yeah in that information about the guy who made tin chloride. He said he "switched the polarity once one electrode had dissolved" huh? you only have one electrode left, I take it he replace it with a carbon rode? I get whats going on here, now. But im not sure how he got from tin carbonate to tin chloride? To the filtrate was then added baking soda to precipitate tin(II) carbonate. The tin(II) carbonate was washed, dried and dissolved in a slight excess of HCl. The solution was allowed to evaporate and a nice crystalline solid was obtained, tin(II) chloride. Or was he making too soln? :? sorry for all the questions.
  21. Got your sodium Nitrate? Someone take it from you, You know you got the gloop, was it a total gloop or just at the bottom? What happened if you added water?
  22. Me again, sorry for spamming. Coudlnt you put the tin/lead in HCL? because lead doesnt react but tin does, doesnt it? Then get your battery on it, Bash the solder nice and flat,
