  1. I hope and pray you will get better mate. And that the pain decreases to a tolerable and controllable level so that you can think clearly again. I look forward to your posts. I find heavy rock music to be cathartic when in pain....

I've been about to drive my neighbors crazy with rock music, Thanks for the good wishes i do appreciate them. No one who hasn't been through this can understand waking up beside the love of your life and she's dead.

  2. Hey mate,

Have you tried using bone conducting headphones?

When you are out on your bike, you can hear the music and listen out for traffic as well.

I bought a set, but the volume is not great. However, they work.

      Cheers Jimmy, I'll have a gander. :)

  3. Now retired early after 22 years of Science teaching.  Emotional farewell to classes last week. No time for leisure - bills still have to be paid!

Thank  you zapatos. I went back to the school today just to look at it and remember all the fun experiments I did there.  It was my chance to say goodbye but I still felt a tug to the heartstrings.  I will be now hanging my "arse out of the window" as they say in Scotland by going into the tutoring business.

Congratulations Jimmy! Retirement is always bitter sweet...

  4. I am sure you will make many friends here if you are sincere.

  5. HOORAY - I AM A GRANDAD! Three years of gloom are pierced by a light in the form of my granddaughter.  I am over the moon with joy!

Congratulations Jimmy. I am seriously jealous. I hope to join the 'grandparent' club soon myself. :)

Really glad to hear it, I hope it happens soon for me, age is just a number dude, it's what's inside that counts!

Thank you guys - I feel positive and happy.  Age is a number and I don't feel like I am an old grandad and the best part is that I get to hand her over to her real parents after playing with her.  Bliss! Zapatos and Moontanman, good luck when you join the grandad club, I cannot describe this feeling completely.

  6. Instead of giving a hungry geezer a few coins, I bought him a week's shopping - and I feel good!

Thank you guys. I'm no saint. I used to walk past these guys but have now lost my fear and engage them instead. I ask their name and why they are out on the streets. Most of the problems tend to be due to mental instability from my straw poll, but they tend to be OK people.

I have no shame in admitting it makes me feel good to help out others. I bought dinner and a hotel room for a woman and her child a awhile back. I ran into her at a local fast food place and she was trying to get them to let he work for some food. She had been brought down from several states away by her boyfriend and he abandoned her and her daughter to the streets a month later. I put her in tough with locals to get a bus ticket back to new jersey. She couldn't understand why I would he...

Love that Moontanman. I believe that the good we do comes back to us somehow and be sure that, when you need help, this act of charity will help you in turn. Great job man!

Hey, that is true. Happiness and sadness are just complementary to each other as sine and cosine are. Lol

So responding to an ad hominem attack with an ad hominem attack of your own is preferable to simply not responding at all?

That is not what I meant. Responding to an ad hominem attack with a placatory or calm response normally makes the other guy look silly.

  9. An end of an era. Now weaned off metal tunes.

My mood did change after my heart attack in July. I think that is the event that precipitated my move to more gentle music.

I think I find it difficult now to listen to tunes which have the heart beating at over 100bpm

  10. First week of school is over. It starts again! I did go easy on the pupils and ate lots of chocolate...

You lucky man. On a teacher's wage, a cheap music centre thing is all I can make do with. Bills take up all my time.

  22. Thanks man. I sppreciate it.

  23. An absolute pleasure to have you as a Forum friend Moontanman.

  24. Sure Theo - you are welcome, mate. I am a teacher and I normally welcome good questions.

  25. Interesting that you have taken an interest in tensegrity doc. I can accept that mechanical stresses will change nuclear or cytoplasmic gene expression. However, what does the gene expression do? Is it to oppose external stresses or do the genes affect a whole subset pleiotropically? Sorry I was late with the response but I had to mark exam papers with a short turnover time.
