  1. Hehe, plane-pooling. I know, it looks bad that he's using a jet alone, but maybe his busy speech-giving schedule doesn't allow for long airport waits? It's kinda odd that Gore uses more black power than the average American, but he's using it to . . . convince others not to.
  2. Didn't realise that you posted when I was replying. I see, so it appears that Gore does care. And if he's a hypocrite, so? He's still promoting a good cause.
  3. I agree, Phi. But what about his power-guzzling house and lifestyle? And it's true that he could not have had shown the clips in the film.
  4. Yeah, you to antimatter, on the Atom rating. I've still got a long way to catch up. How's darkmatter doing?
  5. Here is the article (http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/government/a/al_gore_energy.htm): Al Gore’s Personal Energy Use Is His Own "Inconvenient Truth" Gore’s home uses more than 20 times the national average Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy. Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES). In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home. The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average. Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006. Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year. "As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use," said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson. In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006
  6. Yeah, I know, antimatter. It's almost laughable that he's on a jet, researching global warming on a laptop. Plus, Gore's "black power" (opposite of green power) usage is around equal to that of 20 AMERICANS. If he were everyone's role model, I would find it scary.
  7. Just wondering, violent media is so common nowadays, it's really not surprising that school shooters have experienced it. I know I have, and probably you have. I don't mean to argue or dbunk, but how much do those stats mean?
  8. Gore's data is solid stuff, but I think he was presenting it in a very dramatic way. So he was giving solid data, but maybe not giving arguments against his own words, so it was heavily biased. Besides, I've heard that Gore is a hypocrite trying to promote his public image. I don't want to believe it, but it is true that Gore owns several large mansions/large housing establishments and has a ton of stocks in Oxy oil company. Anyone have anything to say about this?
  9. Thanks to all that answered, it really helped. I won't be checking back on this thread, but you're free to discuss it.
  10. In the formula Q=cmΔT, in which Q is the change in energy, c is the specific heat, m is the mass, and ΔT is the change in temperature, what does mΔT give you? Does it give you the amount of heat? Energy perhaps? Thanks, would be a great help if you could answer.
  11. Is Al Gore right about the effects of global warming? A lot of scientists think that Gore is wrong, but his data seems pretty solid to me. Any thoughts, opinions, facts?

    Life Spans

When an animal grows, it produces more cells than are dying off. When reaching adulthood, it produces cells as quickly as cells are dying off, so the animal does not grow. If unaffected by disease, animals die from more cells dying than being created. Sooner or later, some organ will fail. My guess is that for larger animals, cells die off more slowly (slower metabolism, as mentioned in the previous posts.) And is the "cell death rate" is the same regardless of size, then larger animals will not be affected by loss of the same number of cells as a smaller animal would. So they have longer lifespans. If I'm right (and I'm probably not, someone confirm this), why do animals like the Galapagos turtle live longer than say a horse when it's smaller?
  13. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but why can't something accelerate past the speed of light? Can't you just give it more energy? Very odd indeed.
  14. Hmmm, training a kid to be violent and seeing fake violence on a screen are not really the same thing. (Don't mean to be arguing, just debating:D) I don't think videogames have a huge violent effect, but I'm not going to rule out the fact that it does have some effect, maybe around 5-8%. That post in which crime rate went down with the rise of games conflicts with the data in those links. Who do u think is right?
  15. This is all very interesting, but could you please stay on the topic of paintball HUD's? Thx.
  16. Lately, I've been having trouble with the age old problem: laptop heat. After long periods of operation, it can get pretty toasty there, and my Dell either slows down to a snail's pace or shuts itself off. Anyone have any solutions? Homemade cooling solutions? Maybe it's time to get a new one? Thx:D
  17. Plants don't have nerves, or a brain for that matter, so they really can't "want" anything. Basically, plants do not have a sense of sensation, an therefore do not feel pain.
  18. Um, perhaps clarification would be necessary?
  19. I guess you're right. Also, what about an HUD reticle, so that it's like an FPS? Don't know too much about real HUD technology, but is it possible?
  20. Very interesting. How big of an effect do you think it creates? Also, I find that violent videogames may serve as an introduction to younger children. It may not have an actual effect, but it gives knowledge of such things. What do u think?
  21. Very valid points. Perhaps it depends on the person? Some people are more easily affected by graphic violence. Or are violent videogames more addicting:confused:
  22. Don't mean to be a skeptic, but wouldn't an HUD would make the purpose of snipers obsolete? After all, a sniper's main advantage is not long-range, but stealth.
  23. I'll give you that much. Discussion on what Psycho meant will be closed until we can ask him/her. But I maintain my point that such a device would be impractical, something that the military is still researching.
  24. He said "it would be even more useful if there was a way to relay information to each other about the enemies position." "It" indicates the HUD.
