  1. Perhaps just 5 pts then? Oh, and it's 76 points.
  2. These are the current categories for ESRB ratings (I've whittled it down to what I think is best and have combined a few): Violence/Blood- I suppose no explanation is needed. 15pts Drug Reference — Reference to and/or images of illegal drugs. 10pts Language — Profanity. 8pts Mature Humor — Depictions or dialogue involving "adult" humor, including sexual references. 8pts Gambling — Player can gamble. 8pts Sexual Themes — Sexual references and/or depictions. 15pts General Attitude Toward the Game - 12 pts As you can see, sex and violence are the biggest point values. General attitude toward the game is asically what your gut tells you. See, what the raters should do is actually spend a good hour or two playing the games. then they assign each game a point value. Depending on the total, you get your rating out of 68 points. Now whose going decide how many points it takes for each rating?
  3. I think that for organic subjects, cats would be best. They're very fast, know how to look out for themselves, and are much more intellligent than rodents when it comes to tactical thinking. But if they were inorganic subjects, the US Military is developing robotic insects and lobsters. Their multi-legged build allows for getting into tight spots, and insects are very hardy.
  4. Yeah, I do know the topic of the thread, I mentioned Halo:CE! But perhaps you didn't need to make her feel like a toal n00b? Oh, and Half-Life 2 deserves the M Rating. Some parts may be a bit intense, like this part about a mutated zombie in Ravenholm: This is what FEAR has, not too different They really do deserve the M Rating.
  5. Check out the SkyHawk A-T, specializing in pilot watches. ($375 to &795 USD depending on which model). It even has a solar cell to run! These are the fancy features on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Drive-Skyhawk-Titanium-JY0010-50E/dp/B0012IR0U2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=jewelry&qid=1211333601&sr=8-1 It's the only watch you'll ever need.
  6. Yeah, because the styling of digital watches looks less serious? Again, any adults want to testify?
  7. So, can anyone doubt this? Can anyone come up with a list like this for analog? Also wondering, does age matter when it comes to watch preference?
  8. Just wondering, what's with the "teh"?
  9. Okay everyone, when I was at antimatter's house, I went on SFN on his computer and made the fatal mistake of leaving it for a moment. This comment was made by antimatter, in fact. I'm wondering, how much does bad language count? I can't go through an entire day at my school without hearing at least two to three swears. And it seems like all the movies nowadays have to have swears as a requirement. It's all around us, so how much should it count in a game? IMO, because we hear it all the time, it should only be half of blood and violence. Ah, antimatter, you 350+ posts at the moment doesn't mean you have to make someone feel n00b. To halogirl, What type of language do they use? I find that language varies in games. In HL2, the emphasis really isn't on them. In other games, they're a bit more noticeable.
  10. Nuclear power is relatively cheap compared to its output. Perhaps it could blast us out of this solar system? But I can't imagine the parts for whole cities getting shipped out into space. And probably only the wealthier people could afford the passage. Maybe it'll be like immigration?
  11. I will always use a digital watch. For convenience, I'll list out my reasons: -Digital watches are cheap -They have "extras" like stopwatch, alarm, and light, although some advanced analogs also have them -They're very durable if you spend more than $10 on one -They can be read with a glance, taking into account seconds (well, I can read them faster, depends on opinion). No estimating with a digital watch when you really need to know the time -If you have to do something at an exact moment or if you're waiting for something that should appear at some exact moment, a digital watch is more precise. Handy for science experiments in school -Analogs (depending on the quality of course) can go out of time as their springs wear down. Based on my digital watch, digitals run longer (it's gone for three times than my analog on its current battery and is still going). -Based on my watch, digitals don't slow down even when the battery gets low. Analogs will get out of time as the battery gets low. -Wind-up analogs have the previous problem magnified and need winding the pendulum up -I find them more stylish. Unless you fit with the "bling" look with a silver watch (I don't) digitals are more natural and they don't feel old. (Don't flame me for this). And there you have it.
  12. I agree with you all the way Antimatter. You have a very good point.
  13. Halo:CE was rated too harshly. CS and Half-Life already had very bloody glibs with exaggerated splatters on the walls. And in Half-Life 2, the blood splattering effects got upgraded using the Source engine so that random patterns are rendered in real-time on the walls. Then there's the crossbow...it fires molten iron bars that pin the victim to the wall. So is HL2 and CS deserve the M rating, (antimatter, they do and don't say I'm wrong) and Halo:CE was also rated M, it can't be in the same league if the violence and blood aren't up to specs. So I'm thinking, shouldn't the ESRB have like a whole bunch of inappropiate aspects of games and give each aspect a grade from one to ten. Add up all the points and you get your rating. This way, it's more systematic than the raters jumping at every headshot or knife kill they see.
  14. Now that I'm thinking of it, what do people think of the ESRB ratings? Personally, I think that they're nonsense. SOCOM I got rated M, and II which was just as violent, got T. And the people who rate them are normal people like teachers and parents who watch footage of the most violent or inapporopriate sections of gameplay. Note that they don't actually play it. And it seems that standards have gone down. Half-Life got M for intense blood and gore, but Syphon Filter: Logan's shadow and some Medal of Honor games get T because they were made later and standards for M are lower. Anyone notice this, too?
  15. Remember elementary school until fourth grade? You went to Cottage, I think, so you may remember that I wasn't quite as bony as I am now.
  16. Antimatter, you are a pure ectomorph. You have no characteristics of the others and fit every characteristic of an ectomorph.
  17. Hi all at SFN I'm a classic ectomorph at the moment, but ectomorphs are suppose to be born skinny and have super fast metabolisms. Thing is, I'm going through the prime of puberty at the moment, which means I get a major boost in metabolism. In my elementary years, I was very much an endomorph, but in my teens, I am very much an ectomorph. My question is this: Is it my metabolism boost that has helped me to become an ectomorph, or is it that I am a true ectomorph ('cause I look like it)? For those of us that don't know about somatotypes: Ectomorphs are thin and lanky, have super-fast metabolism and find it difficult to gain muscle. Endomorphs are rounder. They have higher fat capacity and gain both fat and muscle very easily. However, their metabolism is very slow. Mesomorphs are in-between the two in metabolism, but gain muscle very quickly with less fat. They are athletic in build and stocky.
  18. Hear, hear! But they're entertaining:D. The motion paradox states that you may move toward a point, but you will never reach it. If you do indeed approach something, you have already moved from one point to another. Plus, your destination is the halfway point to some other destination. I can't believe the paradox. Last I checked, you have some aquaintance with antimatter. But about the subject, I not really at the liberty to say.
  19. Pfft, the longest I have is only 25 hours. But that was without any chemicals or supplements.
  20. Trust me, your friend, who we both know, is probably just violent at heart. That's why he's attracted to violent videogames, not the other way around.
  21. Wow, MrSkeptic, you sure chose a debatable subject. Genetic engineering, in this day and age, may be the only definite way to bounce back from all the problems that the world's been having. Population and amount of food could be regulated with genetic engineering, and maybe even near-extinct animals could make a comeback from it. But if it's done too much, it could get out of hand. I'm not an expert on this stuff, so I don't want to see a trail of posts saying how wrong I am, but whenever humans take the reigns of nature, bad things tend to happen. And besides, genetic engineering could wipe out certain beneficial or simply different traits if the same template were repeatedly used. This could be a bad thing, as we could be affecting a specieis as a whole by wiping out certain chatacteristics. Genetic engineering should be allowed, but only under very specific, carefully regulated conditions. It's risky, this stuff, and people shouldn't fool around with it. Take Enrico Fermi, Einstein, and Curie. They played with the wrong things and you can see what happened.
  22. Exactly! Those activists who think that videogames are bad - they may not have really played them. They judge them too quickly the moment they see them. This really famous lawyer who's practically spent the last decade fighting videogames, even claims that videogames influenced the Viriginia Tech Massacre and other shootings. He goes so far as to call it "mental masturbation." But you can see that the guy doesn't know what he's talk about. He call Counter-Strike "Counter-Strike Half Life," and it's "Half Life: Counter-Strike." He also claims that videogames are a way of rehearsing school shootings and points out the fact that weapons often used are those found in popular shooters like COD and Counter-Strike. Did it ever occur to him that that's because only the most common, readily available weapons would be famous enough to be put in a game? He never realized that these weapons are common, and that's why school shooters often used them. Well, voice your thoughts on my rantings.
  23. I don't know the answer to any of your questions, but I just found it interesting that you took Chinese. I thought I was the only one! At my school, Chinese is like the "weirdo" foreign language.
  24. Hey Sayo, can I direct your attention to this test? http://simple-iq.com/ I think it's a bit more accurate, but only if you don't guess which is true or false. It takes age and time left into account too, and make sure that you think through the answers and don't rush it, 'cause it works only the first time around. My score was 144 with 1:01 left.
  25. My bad. Sry ubergenius Oh, and I did look at your profile. I love your profile animation. And apparently, you're also a police officer. Hmmm, very interesting.
