  1. I am going to format my laptop fuly tomorrow, partition the hdd and put both xp home edition and mandrake 10 on it. I have my fingers crossed. Its absolutely critical to get my eth card working, its my access to net both at home and in college.

I think what i'll do is take my laptop to college and get some people to do it for me. Always easier to get issues sorted that way.

By the way now that i have had short experiences of both mandrake and fedora, i think mandrake is better.

  2. Sometimes running away does help I supose. I am sure at some point of time someone must have managed to cross the border while being chased. That would keep you safe. But if you are not near the border, then it seems only to delay the inevitable.

  3. Argon is only known to participate in inter-stitial compounds. It is not involving any chemical change but only a physical change as far as compound formation is concerned. Helium does not form anything. Xenon that way is very nice because of its stable flourides.

  4. Carboxylic acids exsist in an equilibrium state between a dimer and a monomer. So acetic acid in general has a certain degree of association as it is. When you put it in benzene it nearly dimerises to 100% extent because now there is no external H or O attracting it to form a hydrogen bond unlike there would be in an aqueous solution. The result can be proved using the Vant Hoff factor for non ideal solutions.

  5. In chronological order, the complex nature of the wave function preceeded its interpretation. First thing to come up was the schrodinger equation which produced complex functions even for the simplest situations. The interpretation mentioned by swansont was initially proposed by Max Borne. It is a matter of mathematics that wave functions turn out to be complex, we only apply an interpretory skeletol model to it.

  6. It is quite possible. When I got my dg as a little puppy it used to sometimes hyper ventilate while sleeping and appear restless. We were advised by a vet to calm her down by stroking her whenever this happened. And thankfully, it stopped soon after we started to do this.

Our dog also seemed to be very insecure. It sleeps on the bed and at night if by chance someone touched her, she'd jump up and try to byte. Again with soothing her whenever this happened, this has also stopped.

I must say I am quite convinced that dogs do dream

  7. Yes you can find a whole load of hydrocarbons that satisfy your needs. Look at any homologous series and you'll observe a gradual increase in boiling point from a few 10's in negative degree celsius to a few hundreds. Surely you'll come across certain members that fit your need.

  8. The first set of equations used come from classical mechnics, wherein you look at atoms as the smallest units of matter. The latter equations may be derived from quantum mechanics. Any mixing of these systems is generally not a good idea and would not give you any concrete results that you can be too happy with.

The average kinetic energy of an atom has little to do with energy inside orbitals of electrons. You get a constt ratio because of the numerical form of the expression and constants involved.

  9. Sub shells are denoted as s, p, d, f as already mentioned. They correspond to the quantum number l - the angular momentum quantum number. s corresponds to l=0, p to l=1, d to l=2 and f to l=3. In general a sub shell has 2l-1 orbitals where ech orbital has 2 electrons.

    2 imp points :-

    1) any 2 electrons with same value of l have same orbital angular momentum

    2) for atoms other than hydrogen energy of electron also depends on l

  10. Actually all these compounds involve the noble gas atoms getting stuck in the cavities of the crystal structure of another element. Not sure but I think they call them inter-stitial compounds - such things are unstable thermally and I think the gas Aron is only known to participate in a few such compounds and nothing else. In that way xenon flourides are way more stable, but then xenon is a bigger atom with empty d-shells.

  11. COnverting into cartesian is what I also mentioned. But that won't be too clever a method when your cylinder isn't aligned to the axis.

About the equations you gave, I supose in order to specify finite cylinders, you just specify a range on third coordinate.

  12. Can I made a conclusion of all fluoride compound resist corrosion form HF?

Ceratainly not. I would imagine all sorts of reactions take place between the flourides of sulphur and HF. Or for that matter the flourides of xenon.

  13. As I said I have no problems with carrying forward spheres, now that I think of it even ellipsoids. But how do you carry forward a cylinder. I am unaware of the explicit form of the equation of a cylinder in cartesian coordinates (i only have a slight idea - working with cylindrical coordinates), could someone write that down please ?
