  1. It is easy to be optimistic. You just need to look at other data.

Exactly! Sure there are a lot of terrible things going on in the world. But there are good things too! It seems like the bad overpowers the good, but remember...What kind of news sells best? Good or bad? We are hearing mainly about the negative things...and these even tend to be exaggerated. But look at all the advancements, the good causes etc...There is good out there. You can't chase away the bad, but you can always, always increase the good :D

  2. How do you explain those people with ape-like faces and hair all over their bodies? Is this a gene from waaaay back when?? Or are their parents...??? You know? I own a book about freak shows. One of the people the book talked about was this girl who actually had the head of what looked like a chimp or an ape or something. It said that her whole family rejected her, hated her and treated her like less than human. Except....her mother!!! Now, idk but that's kinda fishy LOL. It's probably wrong, but it's funny to think about. I mean, WHY would she look like that? Then she had a baby, but it did die at birth and she died too. The baby was just as hairy with an ape head. So, technically, she couldn't give birth to a live child. Maybe it was interbreeding???

  3. Oh yeah LOL this thread definitely belongs in this forum instead...oops:doh: yeah that sounds logical too. I think there are several reasons that people get this experience...I doubt there is one single thing that causes it. I just love to speculate!! Well, at least it fascinated someone:D :D

  4. Well, I wouldn't make any real decision on him before reading about him and watching him. But I never got good vibes from him. Now that I have seen him a lot, those vibes have grown. He just seems like such a pop symbol. He does not seem like a true professional. While he may seem sincere, he just does not seem like he really knows how to be the leader of a country. I am not for the democratic party anyway, but I probably would choose Clinton over Obama.

  5. Miley a sex symbol???? I own almost all her albums and none of them imply anything sexual! Her songs talk about friends, boyfriends and just life in general! And the boyfriend ones have nothing to do with sex!! All the outfits I have seen her in are nothing near what girls like Lindsay Lohan or somebody would wear! OMG They show her shoulders!!!! I can maybe see her becoming like that when she's older...but she most certainly isn't one now!

  6. One of my favorite roller coasters is named Déjà Vu, because first you go through the course one way then you go through it the other way again. I wrote this in my My Space blog. I don't really feel like rewriting the whole thing to make it fit better for this post, so just remember what I originally wrote this for. I KNOW I am going to get a bunch of sh*t for posting this, but I suppose you can go ahead and say "you have this wrong" and "you have this wrong". But whatever. I want to post it anyway!

"Could the ride be right? We all thought that the definition of déjà vu was a little skewed when you put it with the ride. Yes, you go through the same thing twice, but once forward and once backward...so it really isn't true déjà vu, right? So, in other words we perceive déjà vu as going through something twice (or feeling like you've gone through something twice) but in the same direction. So to make the ride make most sense with the name Déjà Vu, you'd go through exactly the same thing either both times forward or both times backward, right?

Well, what if déjà vu really IS once forward and once backward? What if the TRUE déjà vu phenomenon happens because you actually see a piece of your life go both directions?

I probably should not have watched the time travel movie Déjà Vu with Denzel Washington last night, but it got me thinking! What if I told you that déjà vu really was somewhat like time travel...or more like a delay in your movement through time? I hardly got sleep last night because I came up with this.

Most people think that the déjà vu feeling comes from some kind of glitch in your memory - some kind of encoding glitch where you end up feeling like you remember something when it never really happened. But what if it really did happen? What if you are ACTUALLY living your life forward and backward simultaneously while you have déjà vu? What if, instead of a glitch in memory, it is a glitch in your movement through time?

Think of time as a constant. Picture time as an audio recording that keeps going at the same speed. Pretend there is no way to speed it up or slow it down. Ok, now add a picture to that sound - like a movie. You have the sound and the picture going together simultaneously and they are both going at the exact same speed. Ok, now let's say you are the picture, time is the sound. Let's pretend again that there is absolutely NO way to slow down the sound. But let's also pretend that the picture CAN slow down. Let's say that something happens where the picture does slow down. The sound gets ahead of the picture. Soon you are seeing a slower moving picture and the sound stays the same. This goes on for 5 seconds. Now, suddenly someone fixes the problem. The picture is now moving at the SAME speed as the sound BUT the picture was not sped up to catch up to where it should be with the sound. So the picture is now 5 seconds behind the sound. The picture will continue to stay at 5 seconds behind the sound.

Now think from the perspective of the picture when the sound was moving faster than the it. The picture OBVIOUSLY saw the sound pass it. (I know pictures can't "see" but you get my point!) But how did it see the sound pass it? It wouldn't see it going past forwards!

Let's say this movie has 3 parts in that 5 second stretch. Part 1 is where a girl picks up an apple. Part 2 is where she takes a bite. Part 3 is where she puts it down. If the picture was lagging behind the sound, those 3 parts would have passed by the picture BEFORE the picture got to them! But since the picture and sound were both traveling in the same direction, the sound would have passed the picture as so: first part 3, then part 2, then part one. So, from the picture's perspective, you would have seen the girl put the apple down, then take a bite and then pick it up. Then, once the picture is going at the same speed as the sound again, it will pass through those parts as it would have normally. It goes through part 1 then 2 then 3. So the girl picks up the apple, takes a bite, then puts it down. BUT, the sound had already passed, so the picture had already seen those parts in reverse!

Now, pretend the sound is time and you are the picture. Say you were that person eating the apple! Say you somehow got into a glitch and you moved slower than time...but you still moved. Then it got fixed later and you were moving at the same rate as time was, but behind. Time would have gone through the parts with the apple, but you had yet to go through them. YOU would have already seen those parts in reverse, but now you go eat your apple and you have déjà vu because you have already seen it.

How is this simultaneous? Well, think about that picture and that sound. While you are watching that movie, you are still SEEING the part where she picks up the apple AT THE SAME TIME as you are HEARING her put it down. It is going through it all at the same time, but just at different speeds. Now, why wouldn't you keep having déjà vu as long as time is ahead of you? Well, you must take the difference of time's speed and your speed the whole time you are moving slower. The whole time you are moving slower, you are seeing the reverse of something. Once it is fixed, you won't be seeing the reverse anymore. That means you will only have déjà vu of the things that passed you while you were moving slower. So, in other words, the longer you have a déjà vu experience, the longer the stretch was where you were moving slower than time!

It is a weird concept to think of, but to understand it, you need to think of yourself as seperate from time. You need to think of time as something that is moving at a constant rate and you are being pulled by it. You are both moving through the 4th dimension at the same rate. What causes you to somehow lag behind at a moment? Who knows. But that will be my next project! ;D"

  7. I get your point, but what I meant was that it does not have a chemical in it like nicotine... That's all I mean. Sure, I know that you can get addicted to anything. You get addicted to the high, just like you do with alcohol. So, in a sense weed would not be as habit forming as nicotine...meaning that it would be easier to not do it all the time. Just like I would assume it is easier to make nicotine a habit than alcohol. Of course alcohol can be habit forming too...just not as much. That is what I was talking about with weed.

  8. Global warming is just a scare. Sure, the earth was warming, but that doesn't mean it will cause major problems. Yes, if it continued for years. But when you think about how every several decades the earth goes through warming/cooling trends, you will realize that global warmng is just a false alarm. In the US at least, we had a colder winter than normal. Especially in the midwest LOL. I heard many times on the news (country-wide) that this winter was similar to the winters of the 70s and 80s. Now, those decades were cooler. We are ending global warming as we speak. Next year we probably won't even hear anything about it anymore. Humans keep the earth slightly warmer, yes. But things will even out. The world is not going to blow up, Al. See, Gore needed to make a name for himself so he scared the world with his video. He was upset that he didn't win that election so he needed his revenge>:D

  9. If you ignored it long enough, wouldn't you just become desensitized? I don't really think it would matter whether or not the stimulus remained constant if you ignored it and/or adapted to it.

I would think you would get adapted to it after a while. Except when you have an allergic reaction like a rash or something. Then you'd have to get rid of the rash to get rid of the itch. Dang! Reading this is making me itchy!

  10. I know what you are talking about. I get that sometimes. I get it when I haven't been in a light room and I have to have my eyes shut for a while. I get it a lot before I fall asleep at night. I think I may have an idea or two of what this is, but don't necessarily take my word for it...this is just a guess.

I think that after you have been seeing things all day long, your brain is used to sensing light. Have you ever tried going in a doorway and doing the following? If not, you should try it. Go in an open doorway. Stand so you can put one hand on each side of the doorway. Keep your arms straight. Then push as hard as you can with the backs of your hands against the doorway. Stay this way for about a minute. Then, relax your arms DO NOT MOVE THEM. Then take a few steps forward. Your arms will automatically move up without you forcing them to. It is a weird feeling! This happens because your brain is thinking that you are still pushing against the doorway.

I think this is the same with your eyes. After you close them, your brain thinks you should still be seeing something. So it causes you to see shapes or dots or squiggles or something. The reason you can't follow the dots it probably because each dot is in a certain part of your eye so, no matter what you do, it moves along with your eye so you can't look directly at it. It is the same thing as when you look at a bright light out of the corner of your eye and then shut your eyes. You can still see the light. No matter where you look, the light stays in the same spot and you can't look directly at it.

    Hoe this helps :D

  11. I know a few people who smoke weed illegally. I was always afraid of it because health classes and things made it seem worse than alcohol and tobacco. Now, I will never use tobacco because I know it is addicting. I was nieve lol I thought that weed was addicting too. But then I found out it wasn't. So now I don't see how it can be worse than alcohol. I think that if it would be legal, it wouldn't cause any more problems than alcohol would. Plus, you would have less crime and less things to worry about. It is like prohibition...did't really work. SO many people smoke weed when they aren't supposd to! If they are allowed to, then they won't have to worry about anything. But of course there would need to be restrictions just like there are with alcohol and tobacco.

  12. It is true that the definition of "universe" is "everything". So, with that said, you technically cannot have more than one universe. However, if you are talking about groups or clusters of objects, then you can certainly have more than one. Think about it, we have solar systems which are part of a galaxy, then we have many galaxies and so on. So, what if there is an enormous space between several or even many of what we call the "universe" that we will forever be unable to see. In other words, there could be groups of clusters of galaxies and those groups could be in a cluster and those clusters in a group and those groups in a cluster....can you spell infinity? I have a tendancy to believe that this must be how it is...unless there really is an end to it. If everything came from the big bang, what if there were several or many big bangs in places far beyond our knowing. What we know could very well just be a tiny insignificant portion of what's really out there.

  13. Aw, too bad I didn't see this thread before I posted in the other one about life! I say that "life" is just a label we put on the most complex systems in the universe. If you want to hear my perspective in more detail, I practically wrote a whole book in the origin of life thread.

  14. ok you say, the life does not need this 'force'. Let's go back to the time when there had no life. How come does the life begin it's exitance? I understand that it went a lot of time for this to happen. I just cannot understand, how come there appears life from nothing. The stone and water we believe are static and do not change only if some force from outside is involved. And you mean that it started to happen accidentally and it just continued to develop under to its own momentum? I cannot comprehend this... really! please explain.

sorry for the english, stupid me!

Hello mihail! It is nice to see someone so interested in this subject! I think it is fascinating! But where really do you draw the line for "life"? Don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud here...

All life really is, is a label. Biological life has specific properties it must have to be labeled as "life". But is it really logical to cut off biotic from abiotic at a certain point? If you say all life must have cells, must grow and mature etc etc...then what about the qualities biotic things have that abiotic ones do too?

So, let's take a look at the similarities. All life, we can say, is a large system composed of smaller systems, but everything has a system. All "life" is born, matures and then eventually dies. All "life" uses energy from something to function. It functions, then something disrupts the system and it dies. Take a look at abiotic things now. Let's look at a storm. It is born, it uses energy from something, it functions, then it dies. This is true for many abiotic systems. Where do you draw the line as to what is "life"?

Also, think of humans. We all have an ability to think and reason. We have nervous systems that can detect external stimuli. When something goes wrong with us interally, we feel pain. That is our signal. What about machines and computers? There are plenty of examples of macines that can detect light or sound. Some computers and robots can think. Technically, we install immune systems into our computers to detect viruses. In other words, machines have the ability to detect when something is wrong with them...just like humans. We don't like to think these things are alive...but where do you draw the line?

Could you label an atom as "alive"? Again, where do you draw the line? Our bodies are systems of organs. Each organ is a system of cells. Each cell is a system of organelles, which are systems of molecules which are systems of atoms which are systems of subatomic particles and so on. Is my life my body? Or is my life a system of lives of cells? My city is a system of humans. Is my city "alive"? Well, my city is no different than my body! They are both systems of organization. They function...so where do you draw the line? How can't we say that our bodies are a "city" of cells?

Then, we have single celled creatures and multi celled ones. What about a colony of bacteria? They are all alike because they all multiplied from a singe one. Just like my cells did. They all have the same DNA. The only difference between them and me is that my DNA says to create a whole syste of different types of cells where theirs says to just keep making the same thing. But am I one being, or many? Is one strain of bacteia one being or many?

Spem and egg...Is the human alive ONLY after the egg is fertilized? Then what? The little sperm that fertilizes it has no life? Where do you draw the line?

There is no answer. It is just your own perception.

So when we say life spawned from whatever whatever, what are we talking about? "Life" is just an extention of the organization of systems in this universe! We are the newest and most complex systems that nature has evolved us to be and all we are doing is labeling ourselves as a specific "group" that really is just a small part of all existance. There is no definite dividing line.

  15. cool, but is it possible to be consciencly in control of your dream?

    YES! I have done it!

Now, I am no psychology major or anything, but I know from experience and I can go off of that.

When I was young, I'd always try to remember my dreams. Whenever I did remember one, I wanted to remember more. I'd always try to recall things from them. I never wrote any down, mainly because I was too little to be able to write anything in detail. I was only about 5 or 6 years old. I think my willpower to remember my dreams allowed me to continue remembering details my whole life.

When I was about puberty age, I started experimenting with my own dreams. I had heard of lucid dreaming and I knew that it had happened to me a few times. So I started really concentrating on every dream I had. One night I found myself lucid dreaming and I decided to take action! I had a dream about my new puppy. He was being thrown out of a car and I was really upset. When the dream became lucid, I realized I could take control and I made it so that he was never thrown from the car and I imagined him being in my arms and there he was.

Since then I have been more and more able to control my lucid dreams. Funny I should see this thread today, since I had a lucid dream last night that I controlled. Sometimes I am able to wake myself up if I don't feel like dreaming. I once was able to actually think in my dream "Oh geez! I'm dreaming! That means I am in REM sleep!" THAT was weird!

I think willpower is what helped me to be able to do that. If you concentrate hard right before you go to bed about a lucid dream and continue doing so, then, through time, you should be able to start dreaming lucid more often. I think the dream journal is a good idea because that alllows your mind to get used to detail and it forces you to remember things. Then, the next time you have a lucid dream, try to control it. Tell yourself that someone who isn't in the dream is (or something similar) and force yourself to see that person standing in front of you. It should get easier the more you do it.

It has gotten very easy for me to think in my dreams. When i have a lucid dream, I can pretty much do anything. I once did a math problem in a dream and I woke up thinking "WOW! I did that problem correctly!" So it just takes practice and will power. Once you get the hang of it, you're good :D

  16. I don't think luck in itself is any kind of force...it is just the state of having one or more fortunate events happen to you. But anything can contribute to the cause of having these events happen.

I think that being "lucky" is simply being in a position where things tend to turn out the way you want them to. Anything could cause this "luck". For example, you could say you are lucky you grew up with a wealthy family. The cause of this "luck" is your parents' income. Or you could say you are lucky you didn't die in that car accident...well, the cause there is that you did not happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. You can say that outside forces caused you to not get in the accident, but that is the "cause" that isn't the luck, in my perspective.

But then again, everyone has their own perspective on what luck/karma means.

  17. . Some may not even realize they go through this phase

HAHAHAHAHA!!! See? I win! Well, I actually didn't mean "most" I should have rephrased it to this though: Yes, all meaning everyone goes through curiosity. That does not mean they are attracted to the same sex. That just means they are "curious" about the same sex. For example, you could be a child and be curious about your "parts" or something. I may have come across like I meant that everyone is somewhat "attracted" to the same sex. If I seemed to imply that, I didn't mean to imply that. I was having troubles explaining myself LOL. I just meant that everyone goes through a bit of curiosity, whether they realize it or not. That does not mean interest...just curiosity. That's all. But that still is what I believe...sorry can't change that. So in other words, you may be curious at one point, but realize that you think the same sex is repulsive. That's what I meant to say, hope its clear now:D

  18. Global warming is going to kill us all on December 21, 2012 and we will all die and yeah...j/k

But I do know some people who think that. I have a friend who claims to be a firm believer that we will all die on that date. I know another girl at my school who believes that global warming will kill us all on that date. However, I don't think that we will all die. If anything does actually happen on the Apacolypse, it will be a change not an ending.

  19. Oh trust me, I know how bad religion forums can get! I am currently a member on another board where there is a religion forum and it is extremely chaotic!! It bothers me that the mods don't do anything about it...I mean, its not just debating - its people literally biting each others heads off with insults and flaming. But I suppose the mods won't do anything since they are the ones who start half the threads that turn into chaos. In fact, the mods contribute to about 75% of the insults anyway:rolleyes: Religion and politics are touchy subjects to people. One person feels so strongly about one thing and attacks the other if he/she disagrees and that person attacks that person and so on and so on and so on...

  20. OK Norman yeah

    whatever dude this sucks

    can't think anymore

Im tired (take as one syllable) and its late

My brain does not want to work

    I should go to bed

    But sad news to say

    my friend just died yesterday

    It was really sad

....and I'm serious about the friend one...

  21. First of all, I believe that everyone has a little homosexual curiosity or interest. For some, it is just curiosity. I won't lie. There was a time where I questioned my sexuality because I was curious about women's sexual traits. Whether you end up bisexual or not, I believe that everyone goes through a phase of curiosity. Some may not even realize they go through this phase because it is such a small bit of curiosity and it does not become a noticable thing.

Well, if you were under the influence of drugs, I can certainly see how you would have "fooled around" with other men. I used to know someone who took a bunch of psych drugs (too many than he needed) and he began to abuse them somewhat. I had liked this guy for years when one day he was over at our house and he was fooling around with my brother. He too, denied that he was gay or bi, but he was under the influence of too many psych drugs. I was upset because I liked him a lot and I hoped he wasn't interested in men because that would mean he wouldn't be interested in me! But a few months later, we (well I wouldn't call it official dating) but we had a "fling" I guess you could say. So he did like women.

I am unsure if fooling around with the same sex under the influence of something means that you really are deep down bisexual or if you just can't tell the difference between men and women because you are so goofed up! Well, obviously you can "tell" the difference, but maybe your mind is just thinking sex and at the moment it just doesn't comprehend that you really don't feel that way toward the same sex - that you are just thinking sex no matter who it is.
