  1. No worries. We have a similar looking seal on one of our pumps. With some of the thicker products it leaks also when we try to filter... we just ignore the problem and wipe the product back in (so professional eh!? ;-) ) - there doesn't seem to be any contamination from the product leaking from the seal, so we ignore it for the volumes we process.
  2. The force won't fluctuate, I'm certain it will stick precicely to the GxM1M2/r2 rule. I'm still not sure what your point here is. We can predict the effects of gravity, they are well defined. Have fun contemplating such things though. Bye.
  3. You could still e-mail them to find out what the operating temperature of their seals are? Maybe it isn't rated to 80C? If not, then what about a small cooling jacket to keep the seal from expanding. These charts suggest a factor of 10 difference between the thermal expansion coefficients: http://www.balseal.com/sites/default/files/tr18_020707131421.pdf I do not know if that is relavent or not at 80C. Maybe you can work it out.
  4. 'ALMOST' indefinitely' So it stops after a time as expected due to loss of energy through friction. How long does it take? What is your point here?
  5. Well if the pump is new then you could contact the supplier of the pump to explain the problem, maybe they will have some suggestions. If it is as you say and the pump itself is expanding at the seal after a couple hours as it reaches 80C then this could be tested by a) letting the pump cool after a couple of hours before going again, or b) cooling the pump somehow during operation (water or something). Sorry I can't be of more use. Good luck with it. Let us know how you got on.
  6. Yea - he doesn't actually STOP at the tortoises last position, he keeps on going. If he had to actually stop each time he came to where the tortoise HAD been, then he would never overtake - just get closer and closer. But, if like reality, he has no need to actually stop each time, then he will sail past the tortoise as your maths suggest.
  7. What is androx exactly? looks like a brand name, what is it chemically? Does this only happen when the temperature gets up to 80C? Is it viscosity related? Has it always leaked at this temperature or has it just started to do this? Maybe the gasket/seal needs reseating/resetting? Strip it down, clean it up and renew the seals. Sorry I can't give you a straight answer - need a bit more info.
  8. Just got this Kaossilator Synth last week. The K2 is hand held and the pro is less that a square foot on the table. Uses a touch pad rather than a keyboard. I love it. Check out some of the tracks I made for the super hero's in our sunday RPG campaign. https://soundcloud.com/dr-p-20
  9. The last person to try telling all about kundalini ended up in a mental hospital.
  10. Did anyone else actually see the documentry I posted about earlier?
  11. I once recycled a load of them by dissolving them up into a solvent to make a thick viscous glue / poly cement. I tried it again recently but it did not work as the polystyrene had some additive in it that wasn't soluble.
  12. About a decade ago I saw a documentery about UFOs. It's opening claim was that it could now reveal secrets that were covered up by governments regarding experiments that were kept secret for obvious reasons.... apparently after 50 years these things could be revealed. The program pretty much said that EVERY UFO sighting from 50 years ago and before were due to goverment experiments (In the UK and the US, so by assumption in the USSR also) - They took each account and and explained why people saw what they saw. They were doing experiments on ion lifter type flying saucers and stuff. I have NEVER found that documentry online since or found any record of it anywhere... I recon that maybe these things were revealed due the 50 year thing, but quickly trod down again after the documentry revealed too much... who knows...? The point is - it is far more likely that these sightings are from some kind of secret experiment than from an alien space craft or some wierd intrusion from another dimention... OR, as swansont suggested, it could be something else entirely.
  13. I can imagine the earth inside the sun being spun round and around like a marble inside of a balloon with all the people of the earth shouting for joy at the ride they are having...... This of course is impossible for many reasons.
  14. When I was a postgrad, I used to get paid every 3 months.... towards the end of one quarter I was REALLY skint and had to go away for a week to do some experiments on a piece of kit that we did not have at our uni (clean rooms, e-beam writers and SEMs at the Rutherford labs)... I had enough to cover my petrol and the B&B. All I ate for the whole week was egg and bacon in the mornings and some fruit that was provided by the B&B... I used to take some of the fruit out with me for lunch. By the end of the week I sick and tired of eggs and bacon, but would have pretty much eaten anything you offered me as I was starving, but it kept me alive and sustained me through a full working week. lol. The weekend I got back (JUST made it back on the fuel I had left) we went to a conference at Leeds Uni with our group... the opening banquet was 5 courses.... One of the most enjoyable meals of my life!
  15. For me it would be sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, toast, tomato with a vat of coffee and orange juice. Not sure about the "not pack any belly fat" bit... but 2 mins of planking a day or some gentle exercise will sort that out. :-D
  16. I feel the same as imatfaal here.... I'd be asking why they were fleecing you for years until you found out you could get it cheaper. You might get further discounts.
  17. I gave you the neg rep for that last post.... It was the first I have ever given you. I will explain why if you like.... although I feel under no obligation to do so and why I even bothered to read through this dross is slightly puzzling even to myself. Quote " I believe that.... .. to better indicate the value of their posts" As you say - it represents the VALUE of your posts... If a new member or a young person ask for advice here they have some indication of who knows what they are talking about who is likely to state something as a fact.... even if it is wrong. If you state - "in my opinion (or I believe)"... followed by rubbish.... then I can conclude that your opinion is not worth much and it is reflected in your +/- rep so other less educated people won't be fooled by your words or accept them as fact. Sorry if it upset you - no hard feelings... I'm not bullying you at all. It is important (in MY belief) that people have some idea of who knows what they are talking about when taking advice from people here that they have never met.,,,,
  18. QUOTE: "How would I calculate the concentration?"..... You do not need to calculate it do you? You can read the value off of your graph. If you know the absorbance value of the unknown sample then you can read off from the curve what the concentration would be to give that value...... or am I missing something simple?
  19. Yea, I'd have to agree... there is a difference between 'storing up' a bit of energy, putting on a little bit of weight as fat during times of plenty and putting on SO much weight due to over indulgence and excess that you become morbidly obese.
  20. I do not know for sure as I am not a biologist, but have used rotovaps before... Wouldn't a thorough soak and scrub in an acid bath, followed by a base bath and multiple rinses be enough to get rid of any trace DNA contamination in the rotovap flasks? Or, if you have the budget for it, just use a new flask for each test.... it depends on who is paying for the tests to be done and to what level of purity they want to work with. They may consider paying an extra £30 per run to ensure there is no cross contamination by eliminating the possibility by using completely new glassware. ?? (***£30 was just an estimate - I'm not sure how much new flasks cost for rotovap kits.***)
  21. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it... I'm sure you meant well...
  22. QUOTE: "...Cuthber was talking about Hydrofluoric acid..." No he wasn't, he was talking about PTFE. PolyTetraFluoroEthylene.
  23. V=IR S = U + 1/2 at^2 D=M/V... etc..... These equations are applicable to the real world. There is SO much math that defines our world.... where it occasionally fails it is in fine detail where we haven't included additional terms due to other influences or perturbations. Even then we either know and choose not to add these extras terms due to the values being negligible, or we haven't defined them yet.
  24. The baby could be perched on something? The camera snapped while she was moving and this is how it happened to look? She was about to drop the baby? She is stronger than she looks? She could be sticking her leg out a bit to give the child support which you cannot see in the shot? You are reading too much into it? Countless plausible explanations. None of which involve lizards. Sorry - it seems dumb.
  25. Mould it into the shape of a teaspoon! Let someone stir their tea and watch them freak out.
