  1. Wow! I can buy EEG Electrodes for just $28? I know what I want for Christmas!!!
  2. Hey guys. Does anyone know what type of sensors are used to determine brain activity? I'm talking about the ones that you often see in TV or online. The sensors connect to the computer and show peaks and activity when a person is thinking about something. Where can I buy these type of sensors? I'm expecting it to be very expensive so is it possible for me to make my own by buying a different type of sensor and modding it? Do the brain sensors measure vibration or electric activity? Thanks for all the help in advance.
  3. So what holds an electron together? Its a ball of negative charge. But what holds one side of the "ball" to the other side? If it truly is all negative charge then nothing can keep it together as an electron.
  4. Is it possible to trap light forever via mirrors? see example: So if I was to turn off the laser gun would the laser beam inside remain?
  5. Is electrolysis the only method to decompose water?
  6. The electrolysis of water is formed by producing an electric current through water that causes the reaction: [math]H_{2}O (l)[/math] ---> [math]H_{2}(g) + O_{2}(g)[/math]. When water is heated, the following occurs: [math]H_{2}O (l)[/math] ---> [math]H_{2}O (g)[/math] It turns into vapor. Doesn't electricity product heat? So shouldn't that heat evaporate the water instead of decomposing it?
  7. I've looked around Nature and Science for directions on how to submit a scientific research paper but I couldn't find any page regarding that info. Maybe they only have the directions on the physical magazines per se.
  8. How does one enter an article to a Science magazine? For example, if I figured out some amazing theory that describes something important or something big etc, how can I get it published to a magazine? Where do you post it for them to peer review it? This is just a hypothetical question lol
  9. Dude listen up. No one is going to feed you. You must learn to learn! Grab a 5th grade arithmetic book and do all the problems. Move your way up to 6th grade then 7th and keep on going up. It will only take time! Think about it this way: the more time you put into studying the more you'll learn (its directly proportional ). Don't spend your time asking for other people to teach you, because it will only waste your time. So please go grab a high school math book from your library or wherever, turn off any electrons except the lights, and actually read and do the problems. Trust me it will help.
  10. oh right! I never thought of that. Lego sounds good. But I want to do the programming part excessively. i'll probably search around more
  11. ohhh wow. I wanted to create a login page with some sort of database to make a small quick text based game. I didn't know where to start but I guess I'll study PHP for a while then move over to mySQL like you guys said. btw, sorry about hijacking your thread and thanks Cap't for moving it
  12. I have a general question for you using mySQL can you create a website with a login (just like other popular websites)? do mySQL and PHP do the same thing? Is PHP hard to learn?
  13. Hi, my b-day is coming up really soon and I really want a robotics kit! Can someone please help me? I want one to learn robotics with. These are my requirements: 1 - I want to be able to program the robot in C/C++. 2 - It should include all motors and sensors in the kit. 3 - Price should be relatively low. Is there any kit like that I can buy? Online somewhere? Please help me out, thanks!!
  14. What tablet pc should I get (for college, taking notes, and playing games like halo) ? A tablet pc is one of those laptops with a touch screen.
  15. You can right click "My Computer" and click "Properties" there you can see some specs including RAM, etc.
  16. some tips: * exercise/ play outside/ get tired right befroe you start studying so your body wouldn't want to do anything else * eat while you're studying/reading * have someone else read to you or make you understand (like a tutor) * read. reread. understand. reread. move on. Maybe you get distracted because you don't understand what you're reading or you simply can't make the connection to something else learned earlier in the course. Rereading and understanding is the best way to move on. anyone else have more?
  17. Thanks a lot for the replies! Is is possible to find the area of the circle without pi? like creating infinite triangles from the center to a part of the circumference and using limits to solve it?
  18. How did mathematicians come up with Area of circle = ( pi * r^2 ) ? Why did they choose r^2 as one of the products? Was pi found by brute forcing numbers until it worked?
  19. thanks. I really do want to take both but i'll spread them out
  20. btw, finding patterns in primes is a fun way to eat up time!
  21. Discrete Mathematics or Number Theory? I have never done discrete mathematics before but I'm interested in it. Number theory sounds fun, too.
  22. woah thats pretty interesting! i want to find a way to teleport! ("beam me up scotty") There certainly must be something about energy we haven't discovered. Something that may lead us to invent teleportation, right?
  23. 1) To my knowledge, waves transfer energy right? 2) E=mc2 means that energy and mass can be interchangeable? 3) so does that mean that waves can also transfer mass? [because of statement 2] If waves can transfer mass then why haven't we summoned the ability to teleport?
