  1. But the objective is to make the connections with "a line" and your lines are broken. I first tried to solve this problem a little over 40 years ago. A little less than 40 years ago I realised that it was impossible. Any solution requires cheating or bending the rules.
  2. To solve this problem you need to do what the utility companies do and dig holes; in the paper. If you make a hole in the paper then a line drawn between two points the line can go in to the hole and on to the opposite side of the paper. You can then bring the line through another hole in the paper and join it to the destination. The line will be unbroken and will not cross another line, i.e. interfere with it, it will go over/under it.
  3. I had to pick 'Other'. What is the term for someone that does not believe in faeries? The reason I ask is that I do not like the idea of a label being applied to me because I do not believe in something that does not exist; there would need to be a lot more labels. It seems to give a certain credibility to those that do believe in things that do not exist. Non-delusional would, perhaps, be a better label.
  4. We are more sensitive to red than we are to blue or green. Imagine being on an African plain with green grass and blue sky everywhere you look; we would have died out from constant headaches
  5. Have a read of this article... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/6646469.stm ...scroll down to "Tin cantenna" where you will find a possible solution to the distance with standard equipment.
  6. I've smoked for 35+ years and it took about 6 years before I was smoking 20 a day. I then smoked 20 a day for about 20 years then went down to about 16 per day. I stayed at 15 or 16 per day until I stopped about 8 weeks ago.
  7. I have a Claud Butler hybrid. My 3 year old daughter loves it when I pick her up from nursery on it; but she adds about 5 minutes to the journey home.
  8. It's not caused by dust particles. It's caused by part of Earth's sky that is constantly leaking in to space being picked up by the gravity of the moon. At the moment most of the leaking sky is blue sky. Because the moon has collected mostly blue sky this time, it takes on a slight blue colour
  9. We have 3 incandescent lamps; they are all 15w for the low light output. I have looked but I don't think you can get a 15w equivalent as a CF and if you could it just wouldn't be worth the cost.
  10. A square circle is just a contradiction in terms. The hypercube; how do you know there are 4 spatial dimensions?
  11. You can't do this. How do you hold the 2 lots of 3 pints? Pour from the 10 in to the 7 leaving 3 in the 10 pint glass. You can now either fill the 10 pint glass or empty it and you will then have either... 1. An empty 10 pint glass and a full 7 pint glass. or 2. 3 pints in the 10 pint glass and a full 7 pint glass.
  12. Continuing from post #3 Now there is 9 in the 10 and the 7 is full Empty the 7 Fill the 7 from the 10 - the 10 had 9 in it so now there is 2 in the 10 Empty the 7 Pour the 2 from the 10 in to the seven Fill the 10 Fill the 7 from the 10 - The 7 had 2 in it so it takes 5 There is now 5 in the 10 Empty the 7 Pour the five from the 10 in to the 7 Fill the 10 Fill the 7 from the 10 - it takes 2 leaving 8 in the 10
  13. Fill the 10 Use the full 10 to fill the 7 - leaving 3 in the 10 Empty the 7 Pour the 3 from the 10 into 7 - the 7 now holds 3 and the 10 is empty Fill the 10 Use the 10 to fill the 7 - It will take 4 this time leaving 6 in the 10 Empty the 7 and pour the 6 from the 10 in to the 7 Fill the 10 Fill the 7 from the 10 - It takes 1 this time leaving 9 in the 10
  14. It's difficult to imagine what the result will be if they do get a full mouse brain working. Unless they can simulate some I/O for it they may get some very misleading data. I wonder too if the simulation runs at the same speed as a mouse brain. I suppose it all depends on what they expect and what they are looking for.
  15. If they get a whole mouse brain simulated and manage to add a voice synthesiser, just pray the first answer from it isn't 42

    Virtual Rape

If they find someone for this then they could demand a virtual trail in a virtual court followed by virtual imprisonment if found virtually guilty. I wouldn't have thought Second Life was realistic enough though. Be careful where you put your pixels.

    Voting age.

I vote for at whatever age they have to pay tax or you only have to pay tax if you can vote.
  18. Without evolution how could you get life any more complex than that which can be formed by random interaction of chemicals?
  19. You could reduce the amount of energy you need by having two elevator cars connected to each other; one going up with one going down. Since there would be easy access to space you would soon start asteroid mining which means as you sent payload up you would send an equal payload down.
  20. If you have a heavy object, let's say it weighs 10 tonnes, on a table; could you lift it? If you were stood next to the table and attempted to lift the object you may provide 100Kg of upward force. This would be translated to the floor where you were stood. You would have moved 100Kg of downward force from the table to the floor. The total downward force on the floor wouldn't change because you and the table, with the weight on it, are on the floor. My question now is, have you lifted the weight off the table a very small amount? The weight doesn't touch the table because of the electron force. You have removed some of the pressure on the electron force between the weight and the table. Has the weight been lifted a very small amount? If it has then anyone can lift any weight.
  21. It sounds like a paradox. God would have to create a surface with gravity that was big enough to hold the rock and god; a planet I would think. The planet will be bigger so it now it need a bigger surface to lift the planet. It doesn't seem to have an end.
  22. Who else on here is a Pastafarian?
  23. I don't recall Q ever being considered a god. I'm sure Q never claimed that either. Q was just omnipotent.
  24. I had no awareness of time during my blank I only know how long I was out because that's what the car driver, who hit me, and the other witnesses told me. The ambulance arrived within about 90 seconds of me regaining consciousness, which leads me to believe I was out for at least as long as they said. I've wondered if my conscious mind was disconnected from me. Me being 'I' rather than my body, my brain, my thoughts or anything else I could call mine. It was as though 'I' was alone. The problem is that I recall thinking about it. What I don't know is whether I was thinking about it at the time it happened or I was thinking about it after it had happened; perhaps just before I regained consciousness.
  25. The problem some people have with evolution is that it takes so long to see a change so they assume it isn't happening. They also think of evolution as a one way street to a 'better' version. Evolution is just the change that occurs in a species to allow it to do better in it's current environment. One of the best examples of evolution is humans. Humans were originally dark skinned. Humans that migrated slowly changed to suit their new environments so we now have a variety of skin colours. If the bible is accurate and we all originated from Adam and Eve then we must have evolved; we can't all be the same skin colour as they were; whatever that happened to be. If all humans were to slowly move back to the equatorial zone they would evolve to a primarily dark skinned species.
