4. I don't know if this helps at all, as Blike (sort of) said it. 1 = 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 In decimal form: 1.0000 = .33333 + .33333 + .33333 If you line those numbers up to add vertically, .33333 .33333 + .33333 ________ .99999 Adding vertically, it never rounds up. So .9 = 1 I realize this is hard to understand. When I was younger, my math teacher didn't understand me and I tried forever to prove it to him.
5. Are you sure it isn't a black mixture and not a solution? Most things that give you color in solution are transition metals...Cu, Ni, Fe, Cr and the like. Let the bottle sit for a couple hours or days and see if the black stuff settles.

SPDT Switches

http://www.right-tool.com/bldeas6valsc.html 6v Alkaline, 130rpm, 20in*LBs torque. Though most other models have more torque, this screwdriver costs $8 at Walmart. It is cheaper because the manufacturer doesn't have to include rechargeble batteries and a charger. It does come with 4 Alkaline batteries, though. My other Black & Decker screwdriver has 40in*LBs on 3.6v NiCad for ~$20. DeWalt has 80in*LBs, but costs over $100; it runs on 7.2v. Now that I see a picture of the 1N4001, I have plenty of those that I can desolder off some dissected electronics.

SPDT Switches

I've got cordless screwdriver motor (which has good torque), and when I connect the leads to my 6v power I get a fair number of sparks. Would a cap shorting the leads of the motor take care of this, or does the cap only affect the EMF/noise?
9. Does that mean a decrease in arsenic will kill you? On a side note, does anyone know what "Propylene Glycol" is? I keep seeing it listed as an ingredient of shampoo and bathroom products. I have a strange feeling that I'm putting something similar to antifreeze on my head...

Roulette: Does your school have a Science Olympiad team? That'd be a great place to start; try Bottle Rocket, Tower, Trebuchet ("Storm the Castle"), and Robot ("Robot Ramble"). That 'a way, you can compete with others your age. http://soinc.org/ for more information - (somewhat out-of-date until new rules are released in September.)

About ice...

On a side note, we had a competition in chemistry class to see who could get water the coldest with salt and ice. The coldest we got was close to -20C. (And a guy held his finger in there for one minute for a $5 bet, and had to be treated for frostbite...)

SPDT Switches

Thanks for your input, though I'm not going to mess with the interlocks - the switches are momentary anyway; I can maybe see how it would help if they were the "push on, push off" type. I will probably add an shutoff switch in there though. For the ceramic, the denomination doesn't matter much, as long as it is small... less than a micro-ohm?
14. Sorry, I didn't see that thread - (searched for "boyscout," not "boy scout" ) This is a fun site though, and I haven't heard much talk of it here: http://www.powerlabs.org Electromagnetic projects (Railguns, Microwave guns), High Voltage stuff, [unstable] Chemical Syntheses, Cryogenics, Canons, and more fun stuff. Lots of the pictures are clickable, and you'll find videos of his experiments.
15. I'd say hypnosis is a possibility, though I don't know much about it. If your consious mind is shut down, but your subconcious is still functioning, I think there may be memories stored (your subconcious is in charge of that anyway). Then again, I don't think your body was too concerned about recording memories last night - I think it was preoccupied with removing the poison from your body.

Capacitor

It probably will create heat (maybe sparks), which is why he advises me to watch where I aim my screwdriver... Thats why I'll be using at least a 100 ohm resister, which gives a more managable 4 amps.
17. I heard about this a while back. You know how some people can be dumb, but in a "very smart" kind of way? This is a interesting (true) story about the "Radioactive Boyscout" who tried to make a nuclear reactor in his garage. And he came pretty close to succeeding.

Capacitor

It's like shorting out a battery. If you have a motor or a LED or something that gives resistance, you won't short it out. But if you just connect the leads with a wire, then it's going to heat up.
19. Will some one make sure this circuit I've created will allow me to run each of the motors forwards and backwards? (Top two buttons control MOT1, bottom two control MOT2). Make sure there is no problem with pushing more than one button at once (make sure I won't short anything out). Why do people solder ceramic capacitors across the leads of a motor?

Capacitor

If the resistance is too low (a wire would have almost zero resistance), then the electricity will flow too quickly, and the energy will be released in a single spark. High resistance will let the energy travel a bit more slowly.

23. To simplify things, for a chemical reaction to occur, two molecules have to collide in the correct way. Sometimes the two molecules will hit and bounce apart. A catalyst holds the reactants in the right position, so more of the "reactive" collisions occur. Heating increases kinetic energy and therefore the number of collisions so it will almost always increase rate, (but may work with or against you in the equilibrium).
24. Haha! Just l'Hospital the last one too! Fourier really messed me up for a while; he got me to try conjugates... If you just think about it, taking derivitives for l'Hospital will give you some negative 1/2 powers and will flip flop parts from top and bottom to settle the problem. I'd show you, but it just gets confusing without proper notation, and I'll trust that Dave will do that. I got -3/14.
