      Same in French; "une provocation" has the sneaky political meaning as well as the more general meaning.

      In any case , in English the sneaky political  meaning of "a provocation" is quite an important one and certainly is clear when used in context.

       

      I seem to remember from my time in France when Polish people would manage to escape from the Soviet bloc that  there was a connection between the Poles and the French that was perhaps partially reflected in the language)

      Don't think incitement carries the "Trojan horse" connotation. Anyone can incite  and it is not necessarily done in a covert way.

      Might just be infiltration (they have to act out their role,perhaps just to blend in or perhaps to gain respect and influence in the "host"  organization) . Otherwise I think "provocation" is widely used and "state provocation" might be redundant although I can see it is a used terminology.

       

      Just surmising ,no real acquaintance or knowledge of  with that scenario.

      Pleased to hear that. After a long period I felt comfortable lighting someone else's cigarette for them (if their hands were not free for example)

      Even so ,I have never thought of myself (since I quit) as a non-smoker.I think we need all the identities we can gather around us.

       

      I still think old Bogie looks cool and wasn't Marlene Dietrich cut from the same cloth?

       

      Sadly Bogie suffered for his vice and we are all the poorer for that (even though somethin...
