  1. I am changing the way my bike changes gear using my desktop pc - is there a possibility we have become a little silly in our uses of technology?

I see it as enabling you to do things that you otherwise couldn't have contemplated. You never know, one of your flights of fancy might end up in the corpus of bike knowledge because you can disseminate it at the push of a button.

It does sound like a disastrous outcome for Ireland. As if sorting out the border issue wasn't going to be hard enough.

Ahh, I didn't realise the Irish connection. This could be our Donald Trump. :)

It doesn't sound like the DUP will try to push an ultra conservative agenda. But it seriously undermines the peace process and makes a return to the Troubles more likely.

  4. Superbike TT - yeah. David Johnsons's Norton is beautiful. Watching Highlights so no spoilers please

Thank you Imatfaal. I'm glad to be back. It won't be long (a few weeks at most) until I create a new thread regarding my work on the Collatz conjecture. Unfortunately, the work I've done on extending the Collatz conjecture has provided insights that invalidates my original proof, but I am very close. All will be revealed soon. :D

  7. Scientists had to delete Urban Dictionary's data from the memory of IBM's Watson, because it was learning to swear in its answers.

I saw a documentary about Watson - it was on a game show and started swearing for some of the answers like Q-What is Homeopathy? Watson: Bullshit!

    3. DrP

      DrP

I think it searched for Homeopathy and found that the highest percentage of answers to that question were 'BS'. So it spouted it out - they had to adjust it. lol.

brilliant. it's right and it's about the only thing on TV which is brave enough to say that Homoeopathy is bullshit

Yes I was being facetious and tried to use an amusing example. Setting up the bench in a certain way just did not have the same ring as a ritualistic sacrifice, but would look similar to the observer (and blood was actually involved).

But bear in mind you would prob need new rear mech, new shifter, new wheel - all for two more gears?

      StringJunky

Thanks. Yeah, I like spending money on it. I like modding things to my taste and fit even if it makes no financial sense. It's my pleasure pursuing my idea of functional perfection. I wouldn't go as far as, say, buying Ultegra stuff. Being a gear tart is not what I'm about but I do like things to work the way I want them.

I know you hate them but I've just put the best Clarkes Brake setup on my bike and they great; very responsive and reliable;much better than the Shimano brakes that were on it... they were only low-end ones though.

It's a sad fact that the easygoing people who would be smart, insightful, and tolerant politicians aren't very good at telling people what they need to do. For that, you need a bunch of idiots who think they know best.

I feel like culturally the general population values general consumer products more so than education. Yeah in a sense we're taken advantage of, their's the elite tyrants who turned college into a profit center. Among many other things. But the general population doesn't care, it's partly our own fault.
