Thanks. It is a view from Barf - a fell in England's Lake District; which we are all very fond of but is tiny when compared to the lakes of most of the world. It is home to England's Highest Peak Scafell Pike at a towering 978m which again shows how England tends to be on a smaller scale than most of our neighbours and even more so compared to other places on other continents

Anyone here watched Grave of Fireflies? Just watched it for the second time: forgot just how brilliant and completely devastating that film is. Studio Ghibli is several orders of magnitude better than Disney.

irresponsible uncle is a tautology! I remember buying a DVD for a niece with a very wrong conception of the film. And having to phone my brother and ask him to go and confiscate the DVD before niece watched it. The problem with Ghibli is that it is so well done - sadness, loss, and tragedy are not transitory story-lines like they would be in Disney; they are real and affecting

I've reached this strange point in my life - and I'm not quite certain whether it's a point more people reach, or a psychiatric problem - where I tempt to memorise as much as possible from any damn text I'm reading. And it's driving me crazy.

Nurse! Nurse! We have another one here. Take notes, compress, summarise, and condense; learn the final "essence". Although in Medicine (from my memory of my couple of years of it) just memorizing stuff is pretty much par for the course - just make sure you avoid looking for clinical diagnostic points when reading the newspaper

Hardest theoretical exam of the whole 6-year medical curriculum tomorrow (which is what every grad student says). Wish me luck.

Just noticed Beall's list disappeared. When, and why, did that happen?

On a side note, I'm finally moved into my new home, and my internet speeds are a blazing 386 Mbps down / 36 Mbps up. I know it's not the 1 Gbps that a few lucky people get, but it's the fasted available in my area

I obtained 95.6% in my 10th standard board examination. I'm really happy.

Principal thinks I cheated on my exam because the system says I finished too quickly and got too many answers right. So I have to take it again, under supervision. I better get extra points for this.

The glutton free cookies my friend bought had false advertising. She ate them all in 5 minutes.

Oh no. Fred Johnson has the proto-molecule.
