I love my old TI83 plus. It's got a algorithm for anything. Just be careful not to clear the ram, all unarchived programs will be deleted .
Don't have any experience with higher math/physics, so I can't really recommend it, but I love it for lower maths (early trig/calc especially trig).

BIOS updates aren't too painful. Check eMachines' website for BIOS updates.
And I'd probably need to update for a northwood?
0 -
you should be able too . . . though its better to upgrade it as the prescott burns hot - - - thats if the new CPU actually works on the mobo . . . i think we should start placing bets as to whether it will or not . . . look into a bios upgrade, see if anyone else has done one!
I decided just to get a northwood, a lot better than what I have (Celeron), pretty cheap, and it's more likely to work Would I need a bios update for that? (never done a bios update before ).

I think I'll stay with the old motherboard for now, I don't need too much. The only thing left I need to know, can I use the cpu fan and heat sink that my current cpu uses?

with a 400MHz system bus, would a 800MHz FSB processor be slowed?
Edit: it seems someone wrote to the company to find out exactly what processors the motherboard supports (http://www.help2go.com/postp13783.html), either Willamette or Northwood. How much of a difference is there between the Northwood (533MHz) and others like 800MHz FSB?
Is it worth getting a new motherboard, they're pretty cheap. (sorry, I'm new at this )

It's a IM845GL Motherboard, I think How do I find the socket size?
Edit: I believe the socket type is 478 pin, sound right? Would these two work?

edit2: decided to get the first Im pretty sure it will work...

I have a emachines T1842, and I've upgraded the RAM before, and put a video card in there, could upgrading the processor be a good idea? I've never done that before, how do I know which processors will work with it?

Looking obsolete is not the same as being obsolete.
Hiding the menu system that you have been training people to become accustomed to for the better part of two decades is a massive gamble in terms of usability' date=' and it remains to be seen - by a LONG way - if it will pay off in any way.[/quote']
Yeah, we seem to be concentrating too much on how it looks, when, in reality, you can make Firefox look anyway you want with it's customization ability and extension support.

But herme3 the interfaces in firefox is fully user changeable, if you don't like them, remove them...
You could do this.
I like most of the menus though, I did take down edit and help, they weren't of much use. I've got everything into one bar (plus the row where the tabs go). Don't have any navigation buttons, use mouse gestures for that You can really customize it any way you want.

I think I can look at an LCD longer, but I don't like how it looks as much.

It's totally ludicrous, they bring it up so everyone hates war a little more.

Maybe SFN can be extended to include other topics or genres that might bring in other interest groups. I´m not saying bring back the theology forum, but maybe bring in something compatible with science. Can´t think of anything right now, but I´ll give my 2 cents if I do.
In any case, I´ll always post here whenever I have a science question or see a thread that interests me.
BTW, Blike, how low is the post count. Is it too low?
Or create other partner sites, like you guys did with the Theology Forums, or partner up with already existing forums. Maybe a science fiction forum, a political forum, or something like that.

It's loading from crypt32.dll not crypt32chain.dll - that mean I'm okay?

Well, it could very well be that there isn't many hardcore debates going that interest people. Forums tend to go to hell if everybody is intelligent, and they're all intelligent enough to find no reason to disagree.
So basically, once the idiots all leave, there's no more debate forum.
Assuming truth is universal.

Oh, okay. It looks like I'm okay

Why?
I like his speeches, saw the one at the DNC in 2004.

I just re-installed Windows, downloaded a few programs (itunes, firefox, google earth, spybot, and adaware) and updated. I was looking through the processes to get rid of the usuals at start up, like quicktime. I ran into an odd one: crypt32chain, so I googled it. Everyone says that it's spyware, on a brand new install?

Well now we're back to comparing how much countrys spend without looking at the quality and quantity we get in return. Remember, there are a number of things NOT done in the UK that are done here in the states regularly. Like some testing procedures, treatments, and I would think lawsuits and malpractice will play a role in excessive testing and care. America also attracts expensive talent - doctors that are running away from socialized systems. And, how much of that total cost reportedly spent by our respective nations is actually costs associated with R&D?
I'm just saying, without looking deep and picking at things a bit, you can't just look at the total money spent by each nation and assume the country that spent the least is the most efficient, better system.
You can do the same things in Canada or the UK if you have the money. It only looks like you can get more in the US because most of the health care is paid for privately. You can get the same things other places, if you'll pay for it.
As for quantity, we get about 44% of our health care paid for publicly, while countries where medicine is socialized get 70% to 80% or higher. So we pay more and actually get less.

I am not convinced. The lack of incentives in socialized medicine lead to a lot of waste.
It's not subjective; look at the numbers. the U.S. spends half again (50% more) what countries like Canada and the UK who have systems based on socialized medicine.
And the U.S. only covers half what these other countries do.
It's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Of course, volunteers are anything BUT plentiful.
Picture the entire population of Kansas as young people between the ages of 18 and 45. This is the U.S. Armed Forces (counting ALL "troops" active and inactive).
Volunteers = Plentiful.

There's a lot of people in the military already, like 1.4 million altogether. That's 75% of the population of my entire state
It was on FoxNews.com....

So are you saying our current system would be just fine if we got rid of these little programs and design a simpler system?
See, I don't like the "fend for yourself" mentallity about health care. I suppose that's a strange place to draw the line seeing as how we require everyone to basically fend for themselves in fetching food, clothing and shelter. But it seems silly to provide police protection to all - socialized - but you're on your own to find and pay for a doctor to deal with your liver disease.
And we don't have a tier system for fire or police either. We all get the same - well in theory anyway. Health care just seems like a natural progression from that.
I'm saying that socialized medicine is cheaper.
