  1. Are ions absorbed by neurons of the same type? Also can you explain about ions in cells??
  2. So the ions are always used by 1 neuron or another... QUestion, are there some that are always used by 1 ion (someone told me the ions go out of the cell and back in during brain waves).
  3. My question is...are different ions used every time or do some functions use the same ions or are the ions reused?
  4. OK I know that neurons interact with electricity and chemicals but are the chemicals that are used in reactions always used? Or are different ones used and where do previous ones go??? I read that it is ions that go from inside to outside and back in a neuron.
  5. So can you clarify some things for me. 1. Would the continuous consciousness stream be like thinking the same thought perpetually? 2. Would he notice the difference between being a "frozen consciousness" and not being one? Or supposing he was unfrozen would he notice a difference? 3. Can EVERYTHING you experience be frozen in that way? 4. Does consciousness then only depend on POSITION of particles, not actually the processes/motion? Oh and another thing would brain waves, electrons, etc retain their properties when frozen? Also I always thought that interaction is required for consciousness to exist, so it sort of seems like it can't exist if frozen. In fact I always thought that nothing except "regular matter" whatever that would be, could exist if the world was frozen at absolute 0. Or maybe matter wouldn't even exist (if it's slow wave energy)..... The world confuses me. Bump for replies plz
  6. So how would that work, would he just perpetually experience the same thought/feeling/etc.? Also is interaction possible without motion? And if all the person's surroundings were also frozen at absolute 0 would that work? Also would EVERY aspect of consciousness work at absolute 0 (what I mean is would a person at absolute 0 be able to notice a difference from them having conscious PROCESSES? Also does that mean that motion is completely unnecessary for any of conscious processes/thoughts/etc. and only position matters?
  7. I'm referring to a thought experiment where a person instantly goes from consciousness to absolute zero and all the electrons, brain waves, etc., remain in position.
  8. OK I have a question, I know consciousness is a process but does it depend on motion/energy or position of particles? Like for example, if the particles that make up the human body were arranged in the same way that they were while you were conscious (including, electrons, brain waves, etc) but everything was frozen at absolute 0 (only so no movement could occur) would the person be conscious (and perpetually thinking the same thought) or unconscious?
  9. Also does "dreamless sleep" even exist? We know that... We can dream in all 5 stages of sleep (not just REM) We move around very often throughout the night (all in nREM since you're paralyzed in REM) Memories are sorted out constantly in all stages of sleep. Also this http://www.goertzel.org/dynapsyc/2005/ZhangDreams.htm And if you look at history of sleep "research" First we thought that you dream once or twice every night and most of it is dreamless because we didn't remember dreams Then that we dream throughout REM. Then that most dreams are in REM and some in nREM. I think that it's reasonable to say that you dream constantly and there is no "dreamless sleep" Or if there is, it's almost certainly not a thoughtless void like most people imagine, and the thoughts in it are very similar to dream thoughts (perhaps not connected in a dream...?)
  10. The common opinion on sleep is that it's unconsciousness but I did some research and read that you can dream in all 5 stages, and when you don't dream you ruminate, also that you do some "conscious" actions such as movement, sleepwalking, talking in sleep, etc. Does that mean that a level of consciousness still exists? Like you don't remember everything during sleep but if you did remember everything would it be more of a memory of being extremely drowsy or complete unconsciousness (like in anaesthesia)? Or would it simply be a memory of being there (like when you wake up from anaesthesia it feels like you just opened your eyes after closing them but after sleep it's never like that)?
  11. Can someone summarize it for me? I don't have the time to watch it but judging by the comments it's pretty scary.
  12. Because a moment of time would be replaced by another one? Also, would motion/change be impossible?
  13. OK, just had a thought, does motion mean there's void and matter in the same space? Would it be like saying 0=1, or 0+1=1? A bit scary actually, since that would mean everything is "suspended"? Or do properties depend on motion? BTW I know a conclusion probably requires motion to really be logical (thought process) but still.
  14. OK, when I think about the question why am I me, I feel that there is a separate indestructable perspective of me? Also it's hard to describe "me" without using "me" (if I am not universal). Local consciousness makes much more sense when I think about other selves, but when I insert me into the equation... Of course one problem is that a thought experiment requires a conscious observer and I'm trying to get "outside" of myself.
  15. Would it be correct to say that a system with circular motion in it has to have forces like gravity, electromagnetism, etc, to not lose anything?
  16. A wall of the universe would be like a one-sided coin. I don't see how that's possible.
  17. OK, the problem is I can't imagine "me" from a perspective other than mine. So maybe the reason I think there should be a universal consciousness is because of brain limitations. Is it safe to assume that the stuff around me actually isn't me (and not just parts of me in an unconscious form)?
  18. OK, when I think about questions like why am I me and why do I exist, one of the ideas I get is that consciousness should be universal, instead of many selves (kind of like solipsism). Do you think it's a consequence of me no being able to think "outside" myself? Because that would make sense regardless of whether consciousness is universal or not. Also are there any arguments against universal consciousness? I was able to think of several, and I'm wondering if there are other. Also, do you think physics is for, or against an idea like universal consciousness?
  19. Is it real or an idea? If it isn't real does that mean kinetic energy isn't real either? If kinetic energy is real does potential energy have to be real as well?
  20. Hmm...I can't think of any example where a CYCLIC system doesn't lose ANY matter/energy. For example, a pendulum is cyclic, but at the cost of friction. As for the Earth going around the Sun, well like I said I'm 14 so I don't know much, but I doubt gravity is an axiom.
  21. Question: wouldn't forces have to come from other forces (maybe in the structure) so there would always be something trying to travel in a straight line whenever there's a force canceling out the previous one?
  22. OK, seems you can't answer that one. 1 more question: doesn't that prove the universe is infinite (unless it all had a beginning)
  23. What if a system was surrounded by an indivisible sphere (if that's eve possible), would matter/energy NOT reflect off it since it isn't made of parts and has no properties? If it was completely surrounded by matter that "stuck" to it, would that matter reflect other matter/energy?
  24. If the spinning wheel is alone, then of course it won't lose matter/energy. If it spins on an axle, it will due to friction. I mean any system with more than one moving part.
