  1. I could possibly. I haven't been diagnosed, but it would seem so. I'm going to try what Phi suggested here because I'm way behind on philosophy.
  2. I'm not dyslexic. I actually read really fast. But unless I'm deep into the reading I can't focus. I had to read Jurassic Park at the beginning of the year and that was the last book that I could read without losing focus to the point that I couldn't recite anything of what I had read. Now I'm trying Merchant's "The Death of Nature" for class and can't make it very far at all. I would take a break every 10/15 mintues but I can't focus for more than 10/15 seconds. Reading out loud works moderately better but it's very tough to find somewhere to do that without looking weird or being annoying.
  3. Yes, I need help reading. Not so much the actual act of reading, but how to concentrate on reading. I can't focus for more than two or three sentences before I zone out. It takes me hours to read a chapter for philosophy when it should really only be about a half hour of reading. Is there anything I can do to focus better so I can get my homework done?
  4. That's really not true though. For some people, yes, but not for all.
  5. It's been raining all week here...which implies coulds. Didn't get to see anything even though I've known about it for a while. Oh well, there's always one in the middle of december I think. Just have to dig my way through a few feet of snow and find a good spot to lay...
  6. Haha, YT sorry if I confused you with the tags earlier. Yeah, take the spaces out and put the one at the end like the two above said. Kyrisch, I'm going to have to give this to YT. YT had the correct answer, though banister was close. He hasn't given a riddle yet, might as well let him go. But for future refrence you might need to make a rule about stuff like this.
  7. Oh yeah, I forgot to post one. Like I said, I don't know too many so here goes: What goes up and down the stairs without ever moving?
  8. Oh well, I know yours too...that was the one I was going to use. It's one of the best I know. And spoiler tags are [ hide ]. [hide]white[/hide]
  9. Alright, I guess I'll take a shot at the answer... [hide]an onion[/hide]
  10. What if we know the answer but don't know many good riddles to post in return...
  11. True, but I meant that, just as we don't bother to write 0i for every real number, we don't have to bother to write 0 for this answer. Know what you mean though. Good to point it out.
  12. Following the previous post's logic, you want to get rid of the complex denominator. I'd just multiply top and bottom by 4i. The only tricky part about this one is that the wont be a real number part to the solution. In other words, the wont be an "a", just a "bi" part.
  13. Like has been pointed out before though, there is a difference between science and being explained by science. Technically, everything can or (hopefully) will be explained through physics, but that doesn't qualify everything as science.

Do you know why they say these are proof or should we just join you in bashing them first and asking questions later?
  15. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_particles Hmmmm...so I guess I'm not entirely sure how these virtual particles fit into the theory. It wasn't explained very well (or at all) in the book. And the above description doesn't mesh very well with my traditional thoughts about the graviton. What's the anti-graviton and how does gravity work when the particles cancel out quickly?
  16. I picked up Brain Greene's book "The Elegent Universe" a few days ago (I'm on page 236 for those who have the book) and something just hit me. The graviton seems to be coming a pretty acceptable concept. But what I wondered is how the graviton (actually, as I'm writing this I realized any of the four force particles could be put in here) accounts entirely for gravity. As it's a particle and, according to string theory, made of a string, then they wouldn't be in infinite supply. If they aren't, how can everything be assured of being affected by gravity? Could it ever be that two objects pass without gravitational influence because the gravitons didn't hit each other? And also, do more massive objects have more gravity because they have more particles to release more gravitons? I'm not saying that string theory is all right and the TOE, but I'm wondering how string theory is planning on accounting for this should it be the TOE. Thanks.
  17. Sorry, that last post was about Fermat's theorum, not the four-color theorum.
  18. So is there a basic problem here in that the only way to learn the material contained in the proof is to talk to the guy (or guys) who proved it himself (themselves), thus running the risk of learning the material in a way biased towards the assumption that the proof is correct?
  19. I'm not going to use an external hard drive, just comparing moving from computer to computer to it. I'm using XP home to XP Pro.
  20. Well, I have a 512MB flash drive. It'll take a while to do the music that way I think but I guess it's not too bad. Is there no way to hook it up through the router we have and just send everything all at once rather than making a bunch of trips back and forth? Let's say I bought and external harddrive, wouldn't I have to be able to just move stuff freely from one to the other? Wouldn't this be the same sort of thing?
  21. I just bought a new laptop for college!!! Now what I want to do is transfer stuff from the desktop I've been using for the past few years to the laptop. What's the easiest way to do this? I'd assume setting up a network but I really don't know what's involved in that. It should be basic stuff transfered like a few word files and some music. Can anyone tell me the easiest/cheapest way to do this? Thanks.
  22. Oh man! I thought it was cool. You didn't have any warning on it at first, radiohead, so I figured contortionist...could be cool. Then it started playing. After having watched it a few times it's really, like yourdad said^, just sort of stupid. But at 4 in the morning in pitch black after not having slept for over two days it was really cool. I wish I could watch it again in that sort of unsuspecting, delerious state of mind.
  23. Nope. Sure you didn't hit mcdonalds.com by accident or something? (I guess if you had enough stuff in the history they wouldn't be next to each other, but you never know) A few times i've hit the wrong link in the history and wondered how I got to sport illustrated or south carolina college but then realized it was an error in the address it typed, not the server.
