  1. Like ox1111, I grew up in a small town (coal mining) in WV. During the 17 plus years I lived there we had only one murder, (two ex GIs quarreling over a local squeeze), No suicides; but eight men died in mining accidents while one drunk suffocated, sleeping close to a gas heater in his own shower room. It may also sound strange, but in the 6th grade, three of my friends and I actually brought our shot guns to school so we could go hunting right after classes ended for the day. Even the principal thought it was a good idea since each of us lived a mile or better from the school and pot hunted to help supply Moms larder. Then there was Dukie, 9 or 10? He got killed while playing dodge 'em with a produce peddlers truck. The Shamblin boy, 11 or 12? He died of an infected appendix. And yes! We actually had people to die of natural causes. Other than turning a neighbors shit house over on Halloween, setting off a few sticks of dynamite in a tree to celebrate the New Year or 4th of July, we pretty much lived a tame and subtle life.

  2.

yes, you are correct, i am a total poser..eyebrow.gif.. Sneak into my house in the middle of the night and find out... evil.gif

Poser? Ain't no way i'll try sneaking into your house! And using jug was a joke, Way too dainty for a real hick like you. wink.png

  3. Just how much faith can we put in our fellow man? Thinking of the Newtown, CT massacre makes me shiver. To think that a 20 year old "young nut" literally destroys a school system after murdering his mother to steal her legally purchased firearms to accomplish such carnage is hard to believe or understand. Now an "elderly nut" gets his hands on illegal fire arm(s)? to murders a couple firemen and possibly his sister. And this, after spending 17 years in prison for the bludegoning murder of his grandmother. Are we missing something here? It seems both of these nuts were "sane enough" to kill themselves after accomplishing their gruesome deeds.

What I'm asking is: Should a nation of over 300,000,000 descent people be punished o the limit for the sake of a few nuts "NUTS"?

  4. Assault type weapons are almost toy like, they are light, small, and deadly. I remember the first assault weapon i ever picked up, i thought it was a toy, compared to my 30.06 it was nothing, a small child could have used it easily.

Shooting the two is completely different as well, a .223 just pops like a toy, a 30.06 is like... hard to describe, if you are off to the side as it is fired the shock wave spreads out like an explosion, you can see it actually flattening the grass for many feet away from the gun. The concussion is palpable, firing it rapidly is difficult and requires some real determination. a .223 assault weapons isn't as powerful and feels more like a toy...

I don't know, it's difficult to express what i am trying to say here but the difference between the two is real, one is not made for close combat rapid fire the other is...

Only thing I've shot more impressive than a 30.06 was a 10 gauge slugger... WOW! doesn't quite express it but the bruises i carried around for a couple weeks after shooting it were a good reminder of just how powerful it was...

Face it Moon, probably the only thing you've helds in your hands longer than a spoon or fork has been a "toke or shine jug".

  5. legitimateHere we go again. Yet another thread where rigney makes asinine and outlandish claims, ignores peoples requests for clarification, and just keeps stirring the pot with unfounded and illogical insinuations.

I know. There are lots of big words there, rigney. Let me summarize for you. Your bullshit posts based on nothing whatsoever have grown tiresome.

Unfortunately friend you haven't a clue about normal conversation or discussion. Your posts are neither ignorant, asinine, outlandish or amusing, but total bullshit calculated to fit any occasion. Also, for your information, big words fit well in small minds.

  6. Good Lord.

Look: It was a commando raid - American helicopters, searchlights, gunshots, people talking in English, dead people lying around, radar images, cops called, ambulances called, doctors, hospitals, OBL's house trashed and guards at the gates. It was a residential neighborhood. You couldn't keep that a secret from anyone within a half a mile, anyone who did business with the household, and anyone in their five hundred person extended families, let alone the Pakistani military and the local cops.

Recall the OP: It makes not a whit of difference whether OBL was whisked away in some indeterminate state, does it. In point, probably more consternation and "scattering" (!?) would be generated by the possibility he was alive - and quite likely, that possibility was a serious concern of AQ higher ups upon first hearing of the raid, say ten minutes or so after it started. The Tea Party folks among them probably think he's alive to this day, being held by or at the behest of the Americans in some "interrogation" cell somewhere. Maybe Israel. Obama is a secret Jew, you know? Every pack of rightwing fanatics has its Tea Party faction.

Man! When some of you folks jump off topic, no one has a clue as to where it's going. Anyway, what the hell has T- Party people or Osama's religion have to do with this post? And as far as rightwing fantasies go, leftwing fanatics peaks volumes of prattle all by themselves.

  7. And there is another thing we can do to stop Newtown copy cats. Heard about it today. Happened in PA. Boy A told Boy B he was going to shoot up the shool. Boy B told his parents. Parents told the police. Police went to Boy As house and found an AR-15 and two automatic pistols. Make sure your kids know that "telling on a friend" is the right thing to do, if the so-called-friend is planning to "shoot up the school".

Tar, this portion of your statement should give pause to anyone who thinks they are isolated from such an event. Bravado and B.S. are inherent to some degree in all of us. The courage and fortitude that female principal showed by rushing unarmed into harms way to protect those children, was bravery beyond my comprehension. Could I have done what she did? Only if I were armed, and even then; it would have been iffy.

Quote by Tar: I am pretty much a nonconfrontationalist. If there is a way to defuse a situation, or allow the situation to disperse, without causing harm or injury, I would prefer that course. Swallow my pride from time to time to accomplish this. I would probably shit in my pants if I had to fight. But if it was the only way out, or other people were relying on me to do it, I might just be able to pull that trigger. I think it very unfair of you to challenge people's manhood and intenstinal fortitude, without knowing the people that you are referring to.

Perhaps this isn't actually an answer to the thread. Also I haven't gone right through the thread, but make of these statistics what you will:-

USA Gun deaths per 100,000 of the population = 0.1 (2009)

    GB ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, = 0.02 (2011)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

I don't know if this will help Joatmon, but it's a try.

  8. Even the people who were with ben Ladin at the time of his death may not have known he was dead. His body was immediatly bagged up and whisked away by the SEAL team. Alluding to how slowly propaganda works at times; (ala Benghazi), it may have taken months before actual facts would have been known. You gotta remember, Bush made a king size ass of himself by flying out to that carrier and stupidly announcing "SHOCK & AWE" had been a great success.

  9.

Right. Somebody live-tweeted the raid, for Pete's sake. The op wasn't a secret once the team showed up hovering over Abbottabad.

No doubt many of the local folks were aware of the raid as it happened and others shortly there after. However, only SEAL team 6 and our government were privy to the reason for such a raid. And as for Ben Ladins death, it could have been concealed for months; but was blabbed to the world by the white house long before Ben's body had gone to room temperature.

  10. john, your statements are rather ambiguous assumptions of various problems that has little or nothing to do with violence in our classrooms. While a moral tug between right and wrong in our brain continually determines how we deal with problems as we grow, this sanity or the lack of; sadly did not resonate with the young man. Don't know just where, but I've heard it said, and it says it all: There but for the grace of GOD go I.

  11. Just a gleam in my Dads eye, I suppose. Since I'm not aware of a 1927 mass school killing, run it by me. And the Lanza boy? As as I understand it, he hadn't been in that school for several years and his mother never taught there.

  12. As much as I hate the prospect of something like this having to be initiated, it's probably the closest thing to sanity I've heard so far. As you say, regardless of teachers carrying concealed weapon or not, those signs may have been enough to deter psychologically even a deranged "potential nut case". Will it or can it possibly short circuit their want to achieve such mayhem? Who knows! But had these teachers been qualified to carry weapons and with signs like those mentioned hanging publicly, none of this may have happened.

  13. Also, Ben Stein is an ignorant fool who thinks evolution is a big lie and that god intelligently designed our spleen and our poop hole right beside our pleasure parts, so there's always that, too.

My point was that you linked to an article that does not mention guns or firearms. The subtitle says "England and Wales has one of the worst crime rates among developed nations for rapes, burglaries and robberies" but there is absolutely no connection made to guns. Further, they ranked much better for intentional homicide and major assault, crimes one might associate more with guns.

So your link has no bearing on the discussion and doesn't support your point. Yet again.

Would you say then that this statement by iNnow in post # 148 is relevant to this discussion?

Also, Ben Stein is an ignorant fool who thinks evolution is a big lie and that god intelligently designed our spleen and our poop hole right beside our pleasure parts, so there's always that, too.

The stats still show that if you buy a gun it is more likely to kill one of your family than an intruder / burglar/ whatever.

All you buy is the illusion of security.

I suppose you're right John. And yes, this latest nutcase up in New Town, Conn. did kill his mother before turning his demented mind to the 26 others he slaughtered. What might have happened had those 6 teachers been packing heat? I seriously doubt they would have shot each other or the kids.

  15. While the world remains a basket case of air, water and ground pollution; things have changed vastly over the past few decades here in the states to help ease the burden. Up and through the 60s, towns and cities with "any" industry were guilty of contaminating and polluting every facet of our enviroment. Back in the 50s here in Cleveland, Oh. the city dump stretched for miles along Lake Eries south east shore know as shoreway drive. When city employees burned it at night, the fires and smoke could be seen in other town and cities on the lake. Even during the day overcast from the burn looked like a heavy fog in the city. And yes, you could smell it. Our river, the Cuyahoga; actually caught fire once from the oil, gas and other flammables being dumped into it. Ford Motor was fined millions for being unable to contain emissions from their foundry in Brookpark even though they spent many millions in trying to do so. Today, smaller countries along with American have come a long way in alleviating this problem, but there are miles of corrections left to get it right. I don't believe windmills and solar power, or getting rid of fossile fuels is the final solution. But check this out.

  16. FYI

Regarding what Rice said: "it was the the CIA and not the White House that scrubbed any mention of al-Qaida from the Benghazi talking points."

It isn't hard to believe. This kind of thing likely precedes Benedict Arnold's treachery. But in all honesty, when I opened the post my questions were just that, questions. Only later did they become political. Eventually this will go away and we will find something new to chew on.

I would rigney but i have to go out again and catch an invisible unicorn to feed the damn invisible dragon I keep chained in my basement, damn thing is eating me out of house and home...

Thought you'd left all of those critters up in Sissonville when you finally turned your night lite off for the last time? Well, guess I could be wrong.

Well, I also wish you had a better aptitude for science.

If you had then perhaps you would actually address the point I made (albeit implicitly).

What real difference is there between my not believing in God and my not believing in fairies at the bottom of my garden?

There is, I might remind you, no evidence for either.

I'm just pointing out that people's ignorance of God is exactly the same as their ignorance of fairies.

You seem to think that that nobody understands one, but they somehow understand the other..

What extraordinary proof can you supply for that extraordinary claim?

I suppose if a person has the faith and smokin' or snortin' some good stuff, it's hard to say what he might find in his garden.

  18.

Make fun? How is not believing in a fairy tale making fun of those who do?

Well, if you can confirm their belief is only a fairy tale, I'll believe you. Fair?

Who is making fun of what?

Also, that's not true. Creationists and Tea Baggers, for example, are easy to make fun of precisely because they don't know jack.

About what, don't they know Jack?
