  1. This is an interesting study. I've been hearing about this study, a study that found that the mothers of homosexuals generally have sisters who have a lot of children as well, and an intersting study that compared the brains between the brains of gay and straight men who all died of AIDS. I also heard many stories about homosexual behavior amongst many different species. Very intersting stuff, but unfortunaly I'm afraid that homosexuality having a biological cause will never be accepted by those with agendas other than understanding. They've been all over the podcasts recently.
  2. I heard that Dolly, the cloned sheep, had cells that biologists could tell were the same number of years older than Dolly than was the age of the sheep she was cloned from. Any idea how such a determination is made?
  3. http://www.greenpeace.org/international/press/releases/roadmap-to-recovery http://www.iucnredlist.org/search/search-basic There are lists showing what the experts are saying, and lists of known species. None of that equals (nor is anywhere close to) 2 per year. I would say thanks for playing, but this has been a huge waste of time. You should have done this yourself instead. When you're ONLY skeptical, you're pretty much useless.

    Countdown

Fortunately, there's not much water in the desert. Don't be using that sonar and killing them whales. Congratulations on the new gig.
  5. I've been checking this out for a few years now, and it's been scaring the Hell out of me as well. There are major drought issues out west, and western Kansas has had a serious trend of turning into a desert.
  6. I'm very curious about what caused this. I agree with AP. This is arrested development, not lack of aging. But it's extreme arrested development. With that said, I wonder if her bones have made any progress towards fusion. She looked pretty jello to me.
  7. Your last sentence doesn't make any sense, especially when you consider the absence of a species can seriously disrupt an entire ecosystem. Take the honey bee for example, which are threatened in the wild in some areas (due to mites, man-made "killer" bee invasion, etc.) but are still present to work primarily through the efforts of apiculturists (beekeepers). If it wasn't for the honey bee, the effect on agriculture would be devistating, not only to us, but all animals and plants because bees are at the forefront of pollination. True, there are other insects, animals, methods that things get pollinated, but nothing compares to the good ol' honeybee. Without them less food, less reproduction, of EVERYTHING because the base of the food chain wouldn't be there in force. And an important point needs to be made too. When a species is gone, it's gone. When the honey bee's gone, we're in deep trouble. I guarantee we could kill all of them though if we tried.
  8. It's generally a mix of carbon monoxide and dioxide, because of the ineffeciency of the combustion engine. It is true that NOx and sulfates are released as well, but those are due to impurities. Basically, burning requires organic material and the ideal product is carbon dioxide, but a lot of carbon monoxide will show up as well usually, depending on the efficiency of the process and how clean it is. So burning any organic material, including fossil fuels, releases carbon dioxide. That energy comes generally from the creation of carbon dioxide and water.
  9. I suppose we could nuke ourselves out of existence, but is it good practice? You didn't answer my question. If a group of idiots with guns hunt you down in the interest of sport, do you deserve protection or do you even deserve to live? As you said, it's illegal, but cheaters win too. You're really making me wonder what your interest is here. Your arguments are less than weak, and apparently driven by some sort of ideology instead of anything relevant or scientific. I'm not sure your lack of foresight can be remedied as you seem to have fallen subject to rhetoric instead of available to any post-conventional approach based in logic and science. But I very much wish you luck. (As a note, the last paragraph of your response to me may have shown that you have a very lackluster understanding of basic principles in evolution, though it was too hard to understand to be sure).
  10. You know what. I agree Walrusman. In fact, let's go ahead and just start killing everything we don't think we're using right now and see how it works out for us. (sarcasm) How about this for example. Say these idiot hunters come to get you for sport. Do you deserve protection or do you even deserve to be here? They are breaking the law, but cheaters win too right? Also, we should probably do our best to preserve all species on the edge of extinction - which can be justified on purely selfish grounds. Causing a species to go extinct is a hell of a lot more counterproductive to human progress than perserving it, studying it, and possibly using it.
  11. Yes, in bonobos the women rule and they base their hierarchy and politics in sexual activity among the females.
  12. I know that there is a huge uproar in Mexico about the election being rigged. I refuse to spin it however, that's sandbox stuff.
  13. Even more sad is that they are quite possibly our closest cousin (closer than the chimp (though I know there is a bit of a dispute about this)) Bascule, I just had an epiphany. A project for you and I. Arm the bonobos?
  14. Wow. That is awesome. Understanding the can, the use of the metaphor, and the story about the finger shows that other animals really are a hell of a lot more intelligent than many will give them credit for.
