  2. Thanks martin that answered alot of questions! *where is the thumbsup smiley when you need it?*
  3. If it is true thats pretty scary. I would hope someone with a large amount of scientific knowledge and know-how, especially someone who could engineer an airborne ebola would have enough common sense to realize that the decision to do such a thing does not lie in the power of one, or even a few (or any?).

    Africa

It's always been a dream of mine to visit the motherland. I hope one day to visit this magnificant continent especially the Ethiopian region, which is one of the cradles of mankind.
  5. I have never been called ugly. I've been told I am good looking so it kinda grew on me in a vain and narcissistic manner. Any takers on the ugly comment? I used to be a very depressed person growing up, but was able to overcome that and I am now a pretty content and confident person. I am a very passionate person about things I care about, and although at times is can be a bad thing it's usually more good than bad. So yeah, I guess I like that about myself.
  6. I have been playing a game mod called Infiltration for the original Unreal Tournament since 2000. It's an uber realistic first person shooter with a fairly small community of die hard fans. Really cool game im very addicted to for over 6 years. I also play all the total war games, by creative assembly. Really addicting games for history buffs.
  7. Gah i'm so tired of explaining to the idiots I work with that evolution is NOT RANDOM. Once life gets a foothold, even the tiniest via abiogenesis (which IMO is not random either) it's just a matter of time.
  8. So I guess no one likes my idea? Meh... I would much prefer the people who "understand" man to be in control over some politician. But I guess thats just me. Just seemed like a good solution over the current system. Most of you seem to be nitpicking certain parts of the plan, but I would appreciate if you elaborated or perhaps provide solutions to patch up the "holes" you see. I was kinda hoping to have help here building on the idea rather than destroying it. Does my view make me a fascist? A nazi? A totalitarian?
  9. Yea im a communist at heart. Not because It's the cool thing to do, but because it's the right thing to do. But I want to take it a step further. Note that the idea presented below is merely a utopic vision of what I would like to see, and I realize the massive hurdles that would have to be overcome even if the plan was feasable. I present to you my plan: My government would be run by scientists and doctors. You have a set number of political slots open in a given community based on population. Each slot will be filled in order by success obtained in the education process and based on specialty. For instance, a slot may be open for a Biologist, and the person who recieved top honors in his class would have the option to fill the slot (I would prefer no option and make it mandatory but human nature is human nature). Once the slots are filled, all slot holders may then vote in council members who will preside over the entire establishment. The number of council members is unimportant, only that there sole funtion being that the whole system works harmoniously in all aspects of it. Doctors who hold slot positions will decide via committee a diet and exercise regimine. This will of course be adjusted to medical issues and will have an extensive menu option so as not to force people to eat certain things they dont wish to eat. The most important thing being that the individual recieves the sustanance they need without over or under eating. Doctors will also work in tandem with scientists to make sure that enviromental factors are being kept sane and sanitary in all aspects of life, from pollution to the chemicals being used in our everyday lives. Psychologists will work with doctors as well to ensure sound mental health in all individuals and to accomodate the mentally ill and disabled in the best way the society can. Scientists will serve as teachers and guidance counselors, depending on specialty of course. They will keep an open scientific academic schedule, encouraging question asking and answer finding. Science will remain exactly what its supposed to be, science. Anthropologists could serve as cultural go betweens, etc. Some scientists may not interact directly with the community but can work behind the scenes. Scientists will also make sure all children recieve a firm understanding of the scientific method and current scientific theorys that are (in my opinion) vital for people to understand, such as evolution and sociology. Rule of law could be handled by anthropologists, psycologists, and other specialists who understand the human animal. I know flaws probobly exist in this plan, but I would like to know what you all think of it.
  10. Mass extinction is good for evolution.
  11. Actual fishing sites have been found in above sea level "fossilized" coral reef in Africa. Tools, and lots of other evidence of intelligent hominid activity are found in these sites, providing evidence that at some point (homo erectus IIRC) hominids were extensive fisherman. I think with the knowledge we have now of how Omega3 fatty acids improve brain function in a relatively short period of regular use shows that these types of animals played an extensive part in our brain development over the course of many generations eating these food sources. If our ancestors were truely semi-aquatic or were just good fisherman is up to debate, but the diet is certainly not.
  12. Nice references. Would you mind if I post and quote some of this material to put in my first post of this thread for convenient access by people who are reading the thread for the first time?
  13. You set your own schedule in college. So if you need to make some extra money dont take as many credits for a semester and you can make some extra cash while still advancing. Its all about preperation and being wise with your time. Sacrafice a few years of your life to make your entire life that much smoother. You wont regret it.
  14. Isnt excessive sneezing bad for your heart?
  15. I would highly suggest going to college after you graduate. If you do well for the rest of your time in high school, you should easily be able to get loans at the very least. I wish you the best and know that if you need any support or help the SFN forums are here for you to lean on buddy. Good luck!
  16. According to my understanding of string theory, universes pop into existance all the time, so our current universe was made from the string "material" that allready existed. A better question would be where did the strings come from...
  17. Nice! Thank you for posting that information. Although I dont understand some parts of it. Are you sure the gene in question, MC1R is referring to the "ginger gene?" Just want to be sure..
  18. Good bye Milken. Your points are allready noted and I dont think anyone cares. This is a science forum. You lost your credibility in any scientific debate in my opinion when you claimed Neanderthals were Sapiens with rickets. Try posting in Answers In Genesis forums. They might care about some pastors opinion from a predarwin era.
  19. Well they tried to tax the internet and that failed. I would hope they cant find a way to tax "solar energy." I mean how would they read such a thing? Wait never mind... several ways come to mind. But compared to the ability to tax fossil fuels it seems a tad outlandish.
  20. Most interesting. Although I do not think the examples cited are ginger gene inheritants. Having reddish hair is different than the full blown orange hair, green eyes and freckly face which I doubt any of the regions spoken of exhibit. Not to mention, Neanderthals ranged far into the middle east as well, so it would be understandable to see some of the genetic influence in these areas as well. But again, I am no geneticist. I merely have a basic understanding of how genes work and of the ginger gene itself.
  21. Also not to mention extreme cases of emotional starvation. I read in a sociology book once about a girl who was locked in a room for 11 years of her life growing up, and was found. She was blind and oblivious to anything beyond 10 feet in front of her (the approximate distance of her chair to the wall she spent all that time in), and she could not communicate or express much emotion. It is assumed that while most human emotions are hardwired in the brain via genetics, the expression of them is a learned behavior. I think it is that reason why some cultures find certain things entertaining and acceptable while others abhor it. We are all programmed to have emotion but what sparks certain feelings is totally up to the enviroment one was raised in.
