  1. REPLY: I think this website is the best one I have found as to what you are looking for. It is devided into two sections: SCIENCE and PHILOSOPHY. In the philosophy section you can discuss most anything your heart desires and no one expects you to adhere to the rigors of a scientific discussion. The scientific side does. This web address is : http://www.sciencechatforum.com . Check it out, I think it will fill your needs as you desribed them. ...Dr,Syntax
  2. REPLY: Being a friend of A Tripolation would mean a good bit to me. Never the less your unceasing desire to ridicule me has gone on since I joined this forum. Also, nothing you or anyone else has said regarding PRIMAL THERAPY has ever been based on any proof whatsoever. All, any of you have ever done is provide links to websites devoted to destroying his reputation written by people who manage to remain anonymous at many of those sites. You as well as others have pointed out you can always find websites that promote your argument, and yet when you do this with me, it is accepted as proof and I am somehow PROVEN TO BE WRONG. No, these websites prove nothing. And I don`t care who said what. That is not proof,it is opinion. ...Dr.Syntax
  3. REPLY: Thomas Paine was a Deist. In ny opinion his finest work was THE AGE OF REASON . Written at a time when speaking your mind was very dangerous. It still is as you probably know, but it was much worse where and when Thomas Paine wrote that book. ...Dr.Syntax
  4. REPLY: I am proud of you. You stand up for what you believe in. You are not intimidated by anyone`s rep points. That iNow is a real prick. The fact that his rep count is so high really makes me wonder about just what COUNTS in this forum. I am once again being threatened with dismissal from this forum thanks to him and his buddies. ...Dr.Syntax
  5. REPLY: one of the noble gasses such as helium or neon would be safest. Radon is radio active so don`t pick that one. Argon has been shown to chemically react under certain conditions so don`t use that one. Helium is my best guess off the top of my head. Though argon would be the cheapest. It makes up close to 1% of the Earth`s atmosphere. ...Dr.Syntax ......My thinking about helium as the best choice is: That it has only the first electron shell. Therefore it`s electrons are the most stongly bonded to or attracted to it`s 2 protons which along with 2 neutrons make up the nucleus of a helium atom. The noble gases are unreactive because their outer electron shells are full. Chemical reactions are all about the interplay of elelectrons in the outer shells of the different atoms only. Just some after thoughts. ...DS
  6. REPLY:I comsider myself an agnostic: I believe that I do not know if there is some God like force ay work out there so to speak or not. I absolutely do not believe in any of the old bible based gods or any of the others except some zen writings I have run across.I absolutely believe in evolution . It is a well proven fact to me. As to relatives,we know better than to argue with the believers in the family. I still care very deeply for them and would never want to say anything that would harm our relashionships. ...Dr.Syntax
  7. Hello Rusty, I,Dr.Syntax, did NOT refer you to the: Mach`s Principle article. I am the one who explained that electromagnetic waves create their own medium so to speak for waves to travel through as they moved through space. I linked to that article that explained all that. You have to use the link in post #2 because the same web address to BOOKRAGS.com wll not come up with the same article if you try linking to the same web address at a later time.Their computer must have some time and date mechanism to produce different articles using the exact same web address. The only way I know of to get to that article is to scroll back to my first posting which is #2 in your thread. Enough of that. The important thing to keep in mind is that electromagnetic waves create their own medium for waves to travel through as they move through empty space. Also, as I said, I don`t truly understand your question to begin with. But if the existence of an aether explained it to you, then these electromagnetic waves would provide the for whatever it is this non existing aether was required to provide. They have no mass but do provide the means for their waves to move through empty space. It is explained in that article. Something to do with the electro field and the magnetic field moving together at a right angle to each other as the electromagnetic waves travel through space. These two fields moving through space perpendicular to each other ARE THE MEDIUM the waves move through. That is all I know about it. I don`t really understand your question to begin with. But if the existence of an aether answers your question, then I believe the nature of electromagnetic waves provides the answer as far as I can can figure it out. ...Dr.Syntax
  8. REPLY: If you think I have any Faith in court rulings, think again. Please recall BUSH vs GORE in 2000 Supreme Court decision. The rich, powerful, connected almost always win in any court decision. The only times they lose is when public opinion demands that they lose, as in ENRON, LOVE CANAL, CAN`T THINK OF MANY. ...Dr.Syntax
  9. REPLY: my meaning of " scientific objectivity" would include "the pursuit of knowledge" for it`s own sake, with little or no concern for the consequences of the introduction of this knowledge`s likely effects on Earth`s creatures.Your Friend, ...Dr.Syntax
  10. REPLY: I was astounded to learn any court would find in favor of such a preposterous lawsuit. And the implications of setting such a precedent are mind boggling. I do hope that such an uproar eventually occurs over this that it gets overturned , and that a successful counter suit will cost Monsanto dearly. One can hope. ...Dr.Syntax
  11. REPLY: To me it is his MOST IMPORTANT contribution to scientists themselves, and because of that, to science itself. That contribution being that he considered it extremely important to widen our awareness of other living creatures , and not to divorce ourselves from the awareness of other living beings including ourselves and other people in the name of scientific objectivity. This scientific objectivity, seems to me to be embraced by many scientists as somewhat of an important virtue or a very important virtue. I believe this so called" scientific objectivity" is a very unhealthy and very dangerous way of looking at the World. Scientists in many respects are the most powerful group of people in the World. To me, anyone who takes an honest look at human history cannot deny this fact. Without a doubt so very much good has been a result of scientific endeavors. Also, without a doubt we have entered into a period where many scientific endeavors are of such an extremely dangerous nature they could very well lead to many different catastrophic events which could lead to the collapse of civilization or even the extinction of the human race. That capability has existed since the advent of nuclear bombs. A growing list of others would include: AI researh, gene modification, chemical and biological warfare technology, robotics , nano technology, and others. Many famous scientists have expressed such concerns for many years now. People including Albert Einstein,Richard Feynman,Robert Oppenheimer,John Von Neumann,Stanislaw Ulman,Carl Sagan,Issac Asimov and so very many others. I`ll conclude by saying: I see no inherent virtue in scientific objectivity that divorces itself from humane concerns. Rapid scientific advancement is already unstoppable. What is needed is some humane guidance . Albert Einstein`s quoted statements in this regard is a part of that guidance so desperately needed at this very time for all scientists if the human race is to have any hope of surviving even another 30 years in my opinion. Sincerely, Dr.Syntax
  12. REPLY: I do not truly understand the question. But, unless everything component of this scenario is at absolute zero degrees Kelvin. and nothing is moving, which is not the case in this scenario, some amount of kinetic energy is being generated however small that amount may be. Therefore some amount of electromagnetic waves are being generated from the spinning rod or the spinning barrel. This would seem to me to provide some frame of reference though I don`t see how this answers your question any more than I can see how the existence of an aether answers it. But if the existence of an aether answers your question the existence of these electromagnetic waves would serve the same purpose or so it would seem to me. ...Dr.Syntax
  13. REPLY: I think you answered your own question. Well done Rusty. ...Dr.Syntax
  14. REPLY: Hello Rusty, I appreciate your thanking me. My instantaneous reaction to your question was that it had something to do with the fact that these electromagnetic waves are 2 fields: electric field and the magnetic field moving at right angles to each other. I`m not saying I know the answer to your question. It`s just that when something just pops into my mind like that without me even consciously thinking about it, it means my subconscious mind sees and understands something my conscious mind is unaware of. It does not mean I know I am right or know the answer. Just maybe that may help you come to the answer you are seeking. Take Care, Dr.Syntax
  15. REPLY: Mission accomplished, well done. I tried very hard to find this information with out success. That was a tough one to nail down. I thought your previous links established it`s authenticity. As I said before I am very grateful to you for doing this and understand it was done on my behalf. No small thing, a lot of effort went into this. Thank you Mr Skeptic, Sincerely, ...Dr.Syntax
  16. REPLY: This explains it " electromagnetic waves disturb electric and magnetic fields instead of particles. These waves include light, micro waves and radio waves" . Information quoted from bookrags.com. The link I used previously typed in NOW will not work. For working link scroll up to previous Dr.Syntax posting #2 in this thread . ...Dr.Syntax
  17. REPLY: Arlight, what is " meh " ? Now I hope you can forgive me for any unkind remarks by me today. I was bent out of shape about Mooey`s calling me a plagiarist and mistakenly learning those quotes were not Einstein`s. It turns out they were and Mr Skeptic found the source of those quotes. I am asking you to forgive me for saying what I said. Sincerely, ...Dr.syntax
  18. REPLY: It does seem to be that way from all I have read and my own thoughts about it. But I look at your young face, and see why there is good reason not to adapt such a cavalier attitude about it unless and until the shit really hits the fan, if in fact it ever does. I remember well being as young as you and life is so very precious, especially when you are young. I almost died when I was 19. I was gutshot through and through with much of my guts hanging out my back. I felt so goddamned cheated. I was in the prime of my life and I was going to die so very far away from anyone who gave a crap about me. I got triaged, for me that meant poor chance of survival=last on the list of the seriously injured to tend to. I managed to hang on somehow. I got so cold and kept getting colder.I was not being attended to by anyone. Just stuck on some stainless steel tabe with a drain. I realized they had placed me in the morgue bare naked. Some priest came in and asked me if I wanted last rights.I told him I wasn`t Catholic but if he felt it might help, to give me last rights which he did. I told him I was very cold and wanted a blanket. He told me they were short on blankets, but he might be able to get a sheet for me which he did, I got so f,,,ing pissed off about that, not getting a blanket, only a sheet, it energized me a good bit, and may have been part of what kepy me going. I had to wait about 4 hours. That is because so many severly injured had arrived with me . Eventually I was operated on and survived. I felt so goddammed cheated I refused to die. Being that young, life seemed so very precious to me.Let us here in this forum do whatever we can to influence events in every way we can to prevent the nightmare scenarios from occurring. After all, current and future leading figures in the scientific community are either members of or browse this forum. I have said more than I ever intended to, I wish to stop now. ...Dr.Syntax
  19. REPLY: Dear mooey, I tried every wording combination I could think of and gave it up after reading that second website I provided. It convinced me it was a hopeless struggle and I gave up on it. I am so very grateful to Mr.Skeptic for having the what for it took to dig up a reliable source. Thank you and the rest of the rest of the Administration for not writing me off as a hopeless neurotic. I still am a bit of a neurotic. I am well aware of that. But I do try. I know I am still able to learn and change. Regards, Dr.Syntax
  20. REPLY: Hello my friend, Yes, I think we can count on the next 5,10,20,? , years to be very exciting years, perhaps the greatest of all times to be alive in many ways. We in all likelyhood will be around to witness and be a part of whatever this TECHNOLOGICAL SIGULARITY developes into. There have been a very many dramatic eras to live through or die in. But in so very many ways this one will be trully unique. The transition through the TECHNOLOGICAL SINGULARITY into whatever the post human era developes into. The pace of change alone is becoming quite exhilarating in and of itself. We are stuck here,no avoiding it. We might as well enjoy the ride while we can. ...Take Care, ...Dr.Syntax
  21. REPLY: PLEASE MR.SKEPTIC, are you telling me that quote has a reliable source, that Einstein did in fact say the things I thought he did ? The reason I am so adamant about this is that I found a website that discounted that quote that had inspired me so much. I posted that website and pretty much lost faith in it myself. It is important to me to know if he did say those things. Those ideas expressed in that quote agree and expand upon feelings I have had since I was a child. Gee, I had given up on this supposed quote of his. I`m not sure why it matters to me but it does. ...Dr.Syntax POST REPLY: WELL THERE IT IS. I clicked unto it and you found the source of the quote. I am beside myself with I don`t even know what. VERY VERY PLEASED. NOT FOR BEING RIGHT, that is not it at all. For some reason it does renew some feeling of hope and purpose inside me that seemed to be dying in me. Thank you ever so much. Sincerely, ...Dr.Syntax
  22. REPLY: I expect the most actively well funded groups involved in all this AI research are the different defence departments throughout the World. I spent 4 years of my life in the USMC and cold hearted doesn`t come close to describing some and only some of the leadership I served my 2 tours of duty in Veit Nam under. And I am talking about the way we Marines were looked upon and treated. We were there to seek out and kill our enemies. We all accepted that and most all of us had no problem killing people trying to kill us. I am talking about some of their utter disregard for our safety or well being. Of course war is a dangerous endeavor and cofronting and fighting it out with opposing forces was the only reason for our being there. I`ll give one example of what I am talking about. This example I am giving is one of the least consequential. This choice is based on it`s simplicity to make easier for me to explain. So we were on this operation in the Ashau Valley. A very dangerous place because it includes the different intertwining routes into South Veit from North Veit Nam. It is also close to North Veit Nam. The NVA lived there. We were making daily contact with them. Small skirmishes, things like that. Anyway, I was point man this day and we came to a river along a trail we had been following. There was a bunker on the other side of the river. This river was shoulder deep and about 50 or 60 yards in width. I had every reason to expect it to be manned with a machine gun crew or two or three such units. I was point and it was my job to cross the river first and deal with what ever might happen. I asked my squad leader if could fire a LAAW rocket at it and see what happens. Try and find out if there were any enemy soldiers there or not. My squad leader thought it was a good idea and radioed the Captain and asked permission for me to fire of that rocket. The Captain replied : permission denied. Send Syntax across the river. If they open fire we`ll know they are there. I proceeded across the river alone mind you. What good would come of sending more than one. We all knew the enemy had had patrols following us for days so there was no real reason for worring about giving away our position which was the reason he used for not allowing me to fire that rocket. As it turned out there was no one in the bunker and I crossed the river, checked out the bunker and waved the rest to come across. When I say this was the smallest example of any disregard for my safety and others I am telling the truth. Many of his arrogant stupid decisions resulted in the death and serious injury of many in our company and another companie`s as well. So this is the sort of cold hearted officers I recall and there were others to be sure. What makes a lifer decide to make a carreer of such a life ? I have also met many fine capable leaders during my time in the USMC. I came out of it all with very mixed feelings about my superior in rank leaders and a deep and abiding distrust of them in general. It are these lifers who are likely to be in charge of this research in my opinion. Whatever, Dr.Syntax
