  1. REPLY: But I have heard from people I once knew that something very much like what you just described happened to them after taking LSD. That while on such a trip as they used to call it, the way they perceived sights and sounds seemed to be happening in slow motion, not always, but some times. Some claimed this would often happen during sexual experiences. Of course I would never have had first hand knowledge of such things. It was only that for a time there many people were experimenting with such things as LSD and it was often a topic such people would discuss. So, because I was young and around such people I would hear about it. ...DS
  2. REPLY: If he sues her, the police, any and all involved in the decision to arrest him he will eventually prevail. As others have pointed out: if this had been a man trespassing and peeping on a naked woman in her own home at 5:30 A.M. you can be certain HE would be the one arrested. I expect to see some big time lawyers chomping at the bit for the chance to fight this one out. Number one she was trespassing at a time of day people have no business walking through her neighbor`s yard. A very many people walk about their homes naked just getting out of bed and such. She had no right to going through his yard at anytime of day as far as that goes. This will be an interesting one to watch as it works it`s way throgh the courts. ...Dr.Syntax

  6. REPLY: How is that the iron filings form these lines and yet have nothing to do with the force itself ? Do those filings in someway interact with the magnetic force field that compels them to form lines ? It seems they must, otherwise why would those lines form ? I think it`s time for a wiki search. Regards,...Dr.Syntax from : " Get a Straight Answer" at :http://www-istp.gsfc.nasa.gov/earthmag/magnQ&A2.htm#q21 I learned that : " near a magnet, each piece of iron filings becomes a temporary magnet ". Boy the internet really is an amazing research resource. ...Dr.Syntax
  7. Hello again, this is Dr.Syntax and I found a free website where you can earn a high school diploma in chemistry upon completion of the course. Why not really go for it if you have this strong interest in chemistry. A good chemist can earn a good living as a professional Chemist. Here is that website : http://www.musthighschool.com/MUST/CourseDetails/Chemistry.html . Good luck and stay in touch with the forum as I am sure many fellow members will remain interested in your progress in the very important science of CHEMISTRY. ...Dr.Syntax
  8. I can see you`re quite intelligent. I think the final 3 products of this reaction are carbon dioxide CO2,sodium acetate NaC2H3O2, and water H2O. You did very well and were only wrong in that water is also one of the products of this stepped ,fairly complex chemical reaction. I am Impressed with your intelligence and desire to learn. I will do what I can to locate some useful links for you. ...Dr.Syntax ...P.S. I want you to know I have been watching for your response. I get busy with other things as you can imagine and may not always be able to get back to you all that quickly. Here is a very good website with much to learn and do in general chemistry: . Have fun and always pay strict attention to any warnings when conducting chemistry experiments. ...Dr.Syntax PS I AM SORRY THE LINK I FOUND IS NOT WORKING . I`LL FIND ANOTHER ONE This one should work :http://www.chem1.com/chemed/genchem.shtml Now when the page opens look to the upper left and you will find a small rectangle titled " On This Page " . You can pick among the different choices there and click onto it. A large amount of interesting material is available at each of these links. ...Dr.Syntax
  9. REPLY: Do a google search regarding current or recent advances in AI research and keep in mind that what is available on the web is not by any means the type of advances that are being achieved by the most advanced researchers. ...Dr.Syntax
  10. learn some chemistry before you start doing experiments so you learn the subject. Here is one that is safe and you probably have the necessary ingredients at hand. Take one cup of vinegar and add one teaspoon of of baking soda to it. Now my question for you is to tell me what are the compounds or compound that is created when the two are mixed together. You can google search this to learn the answer. Start with this. you will get a very noticeable chemical reaction, Do it in a sink or out side. ...Dr.Syntax

    Tick

REPLY: Are you referring to Lyme disease ? If you are, I would not get too upset if you removed the tick before it showed signs of blood intake. They are very flat until this blood uptake takes place. I live in an area off and on where there are both many deer and ticks. I suggest you do a google search such as: Lyme disease explained+wikipedia , to learn what there is to know about it. From time to time I find a tick on myself and understand your concern. People around here don`t worry about it much. Maybe they are being foolish. It is always advisable to do a thorough examination of your self every day if you live in an area where deer and ticks are common. I do not get all upset every time I discover a tick. If by some remote chance you were infected with lyme disease the characteristic bulls eye red mark will show up around where the bite occurred. Do that google search as I suggested if you are concerned about it. ...DS

  16. I hope you read Yoaps [ Mr.Spock`s ] post saying something to the effect that the sooner I leave the forum the better. Those posts were all merged and I want you to know how out and out hostile those remarks were to me. As far as I can recall: I never said an unkind word to him ever, prior to my response to this posting. ...Dr.Syntax

  17. REPLY: The history of science is straightforward enough, at least as to recorded history. It seems to me there is a real problem when one tries in any way to integrate the two. Because science seems to me to be based on provable facts whereas philosophy is not so rigidly bound to provable facts. I feel there is a real need for ways of integrating the two. In particular when it comes to the ethics of many scientific endeavors. Those are my thoughts on this issue for what they are worth. Sincerely, ...Dr.Syntax
  18. REPLY: I see and understand the point you are making and I would expect the relatively LOW LEVEL military personnel involved in this AI research are as you suggested : narrow AI applications. The high level military participants would be quite a different matter. For one thing their ties to the corporate World are well known and have been an ongoing issue for many decades now. Some of these greedy, power crazed, cold hearted bastards have only their own self interests first and foremost in their minds as they position themselves in any endeavor. Please recall President Eisenhower`s parting remarks as he departed the World Stage : BEWARE OF THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX.This man had arguably the very best awareness,of any and all people alive or dead, in the MODERN ERA concerning this issue. He knew many of these types personally and dealt with them effectively both as the Supreme Commander during WWII and as President of the United States of America during a very dangerous period of what came to be known as THE COLD WAR.He dealt with the likes of JOSEPH STALIN during WWII and as President in the POST WAR ERA. I might be wrong about that last statement. If I am I will correct it. Either way, President Eisenhower was truly unique in his understanding of this MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX and he saw fit to warn us of them. I think those facts should mean a lot to all of us when contemplating the: Technological Singularity. ...Dr.Syntax Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedYes,President Eisenhower became president Jan.20,1953 and Joseph Stalin died March 5,1953. So Eisenhower was president for a short while until Stalin died March 5,1953. Then he had to deal with Nikita Kruschev , who`s very survival of Stalinist Russia during WWII is a testament to his political skill. He was put in charge of the defense of STALINGRAD that fateful winter of 1941/1942. Had the Russians failed in their defense of Stalingrad, the German`s arguably could have prevailed, and won WWII. This is not only my opinion, but that of many historians. So Eisenhower faced a determined and able foe when Kruschev gained control of Russia. For what it`s worth, ...Dr.Syntax
  19. REPLY: I appreciate your feed back regarding all this. Boy,that is a big downside. If it makes it the same as using a 56k modem it really has a very big effect on what you can do. Just downloading updates to my security programs and windows updates became at times a 10 to 20 hour process that as often as not would fail and I would have to start all over again. But, please know that I appreciate your expert advise when it comes to technological know how.Sincerely, ...Dr.Syntax
  20. REPLY:Hello CharnY, As far as age goes, I am a Viet Nam War veteran, so you can know by that information that I am way beyond the age when anyone would ever question my being 21 or not. She may have recorded my address along with my date of birth I would imagine. This is the sort of information that can be used for identity theft. Surely you have heard of that. Also, personal information about people is a tradeable commodity . If you doubt that, do a google search using your name only. You may be unpleasantly surprised at what all pops up along with people offering to do background checks and such on you for 25 to 30 dollars, Something like that. I have since that time purchased beer at other locations and no one has ever asked to see my drivers licence. I expect she is either gathering data about people as a sideline bussiness of her own, or she is one of these people who enjoy snooping on others herself. When I complained about the high price of cigarrettes [ over 8 dollars a pack ] she let me know she thought they should charge more. She didn`t like me because I am a cigarette smoker. And then when I went and bought some beer she must of figured I was some sort of heathen. She is probably one of these right wing Christian nuts who keeps tabs on her fellow citizens. There are a lot of these types in UPSTATE NEW YORK, along with much of the rest of the country. Maybe you see nothing wrong about all this snooping, I don`t know. I see a lot wrong with it. A man was arrested for being naked in his own kitchen recently at 5:30 in the morning. A woman who was trespassing on his property at that early hour took it upon herself to call the police and they went along with thiss nonsense and arrested him. If it had been a man trespassing and peeking in a womans window at that early hour you can be assured HE would have been arrested, not her. I could go on but those EULAs you had to have signed to use a computer ought to concern you. Do that google search on your name and see how happy that makes you. ...Dr.Syntax Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged REPLY: YEAH RIGHT, that`s the way to answer this problem. How about we people start demanding some privacy protection rights. By the way a part of most of those EULAs is that you shall have no recourse under any circumstances should harm come to you as a result of their practices. Say someone stole your Identity and managed to extract a large amount of money from an account of yours because someone gained personal information about you because some one at " adobe " sold it to them. Read that "adobe " EULA. Do a google search on your name and see how pleased you are with the results. ...Dr.Syntax Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged REPLY: Well, I`ve probably been around a good bit longer than you, bought homes and such which gives all sorts of different entities access to a whole lot of information about you. You`ve been lucky up till now. I wouldn`t count lasting fore ever. ...DS Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged REPLY: You have to type in something like: WHO IS, INVESTIGATE,I WANT TO KNOW ALL ABOUT+ your name to get any results. I apologize for not stating it the way you have to, to get results doing a google search on yourself or anyone else for that matter. Sorry, ...Dr. Syntax Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged REPLY: Try doing that search with : who is, I want to know all about, and investigate + your name . I should have been much clearer about how anyone can go about google searching anyone`s name and the sort of information so easily obtained. And if you are willing to pay a few bucks to one of these professional internet snoopers it becomes much more of a concern. I expect many of these prosnoops are policemen, any lawyer and such that can access records that are supposed to be off limits to the general public. Many seem to have this attitude of why should I care about this. One very good reason is called IDENTITY THEFT. I get the feeling many think: I have nothing to hide so why should I care. I just gave you one very good reason for you to care. ...Dr.Syntax Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged[[MODE NOTE: INAPPROPRIATE BANTER DELETED]]
  21. REPLY: After all the hoopla I had already created I did not dare to note that it is the most common form of ice/solid water in the Universe. Yet, there it is clearly stated in an article I read. Yet, if you stop and think about it, outer space is so very cold, the conditions would seem to suggest that this is exactly what one would expect to occur. Now this a question, not a speculation. Would it seem likely to any of you more knowledgeable people out there that because the vast majority of the Universe is so very cold that the vast majority of water that exists in the Universe is in fact this amorphous solid state water ? I do not know enough about how water comes to be in outer space to venture a guess, at least not in this forum. ...Dr.Syntax

  24. REPLY: Hello JillSwift, I am pleased to hear from you. I am well aware of that trail and it does concern me. Nevertheless I feel compelled to fight back when I sense the forces of repression gaining the upper hand in the Nation and World that I have no choice but to live and die in. The sooner we start to resist and fight back, the better our chances of prevailing. It is not some noble ideals I try and live up to. It seems to be my instinctive reactions to perceived threats I sense out there. I say that because I have always had these instinctive reactions to people messing with me since I was a boy. I have suffered severely on a few occations. I had my guts blown out my back by a high powered rifle at very close range once over in Viet Nam for one example. I chose to involve myself in that war because I believed at that time the Soviet Union was truly determined to defeat us one way or another. I felt this proxy war was a necessary show on the part of the U.S. of a willingness to fight a costly war to stand up to them. There are many events that happened while I was growing up that led me to feel this way. I not only survived that incident but was returned to Viet Nam for a second tour of duty. Things are not all that different today for Marines and Soldiers are they ? Some things are worth fighting for. I believe very strongly in the importance of privacy. With all the right wing nuts out there trying to bully the rest of us into some sexless, joyless lifestyle, the time is past due to resist and fight back. It`s the way I am and I would not want to be any other way. Now, if I end up being burned at the stake I expect I may have second thoughts about all this at that time only. You take care JillSwift, ...Dr.Syntax
  25. REPLY: What reason or reasons can you give me to assume that some private entity, corporation, etc., would be any more inclined to any sort of moral code so to speak, than the military defense departments through out the World as to " work on " strong AI ". And can you give me any reason why the military would be focussed on " narrow AI " applications and less focussed or unfocussed on " strong AI " than the private sector. As far as I know they have worked together through out recorded history. Certainly since the American Civil War. Military needs have led the way throughout recorded history in technological advancement. What stronger motivation is there to survival and dominance when it comes to those Nations that have dominated throughout history. What was it that made it possible for Nazi Germany to defeat both the French and British armies in a matter of weeks during the spring of 1940. They almost defeated the Russians in 1941. A few crucial errors on the part of Hitler himself going against the German high command may very well be the only reason the German`s lost the war in Russia. Had the Russians not managed to stop the Germans by way of sacrificing tens of millions of soldiers, it is at least arguable they would have prevailed and won the second World War. For a brief moment in history they had technological superiority and almost won that war. For a few years their tanks were vastly superior to anyone else`s. The Russians bought themselves enough time by way of acceptance of vast numbers of casualties by both the military and civilian people of Russia. The tens of millions of Russians who died during those crucial years allowed the Russians to build equitable and better tanks, rocketry, artillery and such which made it possible for them to eventually defeat the German Army. ...Dr.Syntax
