  1. Whoaa. What are you trying to say, Glider? That social science is a natural Science? or There is no such thing as a natural science? (natural science e.g. chemistry, physics etc) Your post is confusing and my brain isn't working too well. Maybe you should use italics and the eye rolling smiley to express any sarcasm. Maybe.
  2. I've heard its really hard (e.g. eight years of learning and you still won't be able to properly talk it). If you come from a japanese family it'll be easier. I doubtr you have otherwise you would know the language_) silly me. I'm going to start learning Spanish (after failing miserably at French).
  3. Probably a packet of crisps/cereal bar. There's not much to eat anyway.
  4. bit of an understatement - look how far "the dating thread" has come. (PS: This is general discussion - why are people getting pissed off at it?)
  5. Indeed, there aren't any good aptitude tests on the web. Still, the guy wants some help (people are so smug here). Mars - if you want a good test the only ones that measure up are MCAT, LSAT these kind of professional tests. These would give a very accurate indication of your abilities (although it is restricted to science and law). Alternatively, this is in my opinion a very good test, http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20330 It pinpoints what kind of person you are and what jobs you would be suited to. Not 100% accurate but what is. Gives you a good idea of where you should be heading.
  6. A "maths industry"? I didn't know there was such a thing!!! I think the above post says it all. Jobs in applied maths are basically economics and finance ones. Although I think these are falling in positions and you're probably need a masters/Phd. You can also do actuarial work if you like calculating risks and probabalitys. I'm pretty good at maths(for my age) but the only way I see making a career out of it is by going into software development/computers etc. The above that I've talked about are all "maths focused" as you put it (but I'm sure you will be using computers as well so . . .yeah) As for the discovering the new maths formula etc. . . .I don't really know. First you have to secure it as being yours (maybe with a patent???). If its proven to be something new(doubt it) then most science journals etc will publish it. Hold on. Don't let go!!! You'll never be in debt ever again!!! If he asks you to jump of a cliff. DO IT.

    World Cup!!!

Am I the only one who thought England played well. TandT were playing a very 'greek' game yesterday. At any one time, there were atleast 8 men in their half. They were all defense. No wonder England coudln't get through - and yet they did -plenty of times, in the first half. They played good. The most dissapointing part was when 'the lanky robot' missed a virtually open goal. It was pathetic how he just tripped on the ball like that. Good thing he redeemed himself. I think the man of the match was a tie between Terry and Lennon.

    World Cup!!!

Considering Ballack (the big gun) was playing the result was pretty poor. I didn't watch it because of exam revision but a 0-0 game til stoppage time sounds pretty boring to me. I feel sorry for poland (held on til 90 minutes with just 10 men) And don't get me started on Brazil. The way they played yesterday, I have hope for England again (but then again, there is the possibility that they took it easy). You know that in a saudi game there's going to be goals. Its never 0-0. Either there is a complete thrash or some lucky one-off goal (like accidently running into the ball and scoring). I was surprised with a 2-2 draw. I anticipated tunisia to win. The best game of the day was obviously Spain, the last goal as good as Italy's first goal, both amazing.
  9. The Wombles of WIMBELDON (common are we) will own !!! (just realised how lame that sounded)

    Spaces

I don't understand the question. Do you mean paragraph separation e.g: fgjpfadog'pagh'afpgafg faghfghaofighaofihg'oafi. ___gafghafhg;oafg dfgjalkdfhgjkfadhgajdfg _______________________ lfgajfklgjafidaghoidfhgaiga ajfgopjafdgijafdgpajfgpajdfp. ____ gahfughfaughafldiughafli ahgfihagoifaghaof;igh;aofdg The first one - I pressed two enters (two spaces?). The second one I only pressed 1 enter to "separate" the paragraphs Is this what you meant?
  12. a lot of technological evolution has taken place in the last 30 years. The general design and 'aesthetic'(if you please) of the keyboard and mouse has hardly changed. Its going to take a lot more years (past 2010) before we begin to accept other forms of interfacing with PCs.
  13. heh (disregarding the irony) - Italy are the strongest team that I've seen so far(I have yet to see Brazil). They are the best technically' date=' They have great defense and have brute force when it comes to striding forward and making opputunities. The strikers are top notch too (e.g.first goal) Lets hear it - your prediction for Brazil's upcoming game / England's game on thursday (including amount of goals - use that mind!!!) PS: USA stink at [i']soccer[/i]

    World Cup!!!

Based on my predictions, which were surprisingly correct last time, Brazil Vs Italy in finals
  15. If its a typo e.g. 30 million - it's still wrong:D There are easily over 100 million people worldwide expected to watch the world cup. (Consider Brazil which eat drink and sleep football - I think nearly everyone in Rio and Sao will be watching. That's already 30 million). btw - Brazil and Italy in the final. Watch people.
  16. Here it is guys - THE BLEEDING MADRAS http://www.designerexportsinc.com/images/Polo-Multistripe.jpg This is it, yeah?

What I said previously about talking or even better, texting, via mobile. The catch here would be the fact that you have to physically ASK. People tend to find things that others have accepted as being normal. Most teenagers have mobile phones (I don't - u know why) and I'm not kidding when I say, this is their one possession that they would give their live's for (excuse the extended hyperbole). The mobile phone is the primary method of communication for teenagers and guess what - ITS NOT CREEPY. Its 100% "creepyless" (please don't make me create more neologisms). Do you know whats creepy? The fact that you've got her number and she doesn't know about it. In this situation, you have to make her aware that you have it. DO NOT SAY: "I have your number." You have to negate the fact that you have her number by getting her to give you her number (Which I've explained previously but you pretty much crapped on that advice). Yes - in loo loo la la land. If you want creepy - there, that's it. This is known as normal behaviour. A letter in this circumstance is abnormal behaviour. Especially in the teenage sense. Hmmm- rejection followed by complete disclosure. Not looking to good is it. Most love relationships start with a general liking for the person. This is what you're aiming for, a love relaionship, not a friend one? If you're EVER going to go anywhere with her, she would have said yes. She completely nullified and then destroyed you're hope. Seriously - you should consider moving on. Good move. You have to keep the contact until you can sort yourself out into something worth liking. E.g. get your book out, bring some success towards your way, get some people on your side, and then u know, kick ass. That's your only chance. Obviously a friendship is certain so if you don't want to develop on that and get the girl its up to you. And this will take time, I'm talking a year or so. Just get a good start at college, yeah? ps: The letter that alice sent isn't 'creepy' because she doesn't want a love relationship with this older friend. mi right? You see the difference. If all you want is friendship, a letter would be sweet(hate using that word) and you would be a weak but trusting friend (which is what you are right now).Someone on the side.

Bad luck I don't know. When you're living a crap life - you judge others as being better off. I don't really have anything going for me. All I have in my life is these exams I'm revising for. I have nothing else to show. And the cruel irony is that this one thing that I have in life,- I'm not even that good at. In theory, I should be one of the best. sorry, creepy isn't the word I should have used. Maybe, inappropriate. Yeah, well you've shot me down.
  19. Yes - infact, coincendtly 50% of medical research funding in UK is on cancer whilst I think a mere 8-12% is on HIV/AIDS if I remember correctly. But the potential oppurtnunity cost of extra funding for cancer would shift the probability in favour of a cure for cancer - more students, more employment in cancer research, more ideas . . . Come to think of it - maybe Harajuku is right in saying that education is something to focus on. After a while and contract after contract, these scientistsworking day after day on a cure could lose interest and genuine creativity and passion in discovering. Maybe this should be replenished in great numbers by producing more science graduates
  20. It's chubby rain!!! "Oh no - the aliens are coming, RUN" Coming to a theatre near you
  21. Maybe something which he could be touching on is the fact that billions have been spent. This money could be better used towards all the cancer research instead. Since cancer kills more than AIDS it would be economically wiser. Maybe a 100% cure for cancer could have been found by now if the funding went that way.
  22. he - yeah, I was expecting the average member to predict mine. Seems that not a lot of ideas can be deduced from the word "Cloud." I've had no formal psychological training - I'm just a maths/tech buff. here goes: Judging purely from your avatar and username - I'd say you're in your late teens, early twenties. You're quite thoughtful, intelligent but average when it comes to science/maths I'm guessing you're an asian and you like the whole anime/manga scene You're probably good at art and drawing I would say that there is something troubling you You're kind of laid back but you're not a quiet person You come across to people as "cool" you know where you're going in life - you don't need anyone to tell you Anyway - those are the totally random thoughts that came into my mind whilst looking at your avatar and username. As you can see, its pretty vague and could apply to anyone. Most of it coming from the visual stimulus of your avatar. Obviously with mine there is barely anything to go on. So this experiment is proving to be unsuccessful??? btw- Did I get anything right?
  23. Isn't robert matthew's the physicist from focus magazine? He's one to complain/ I mean it is a fairly new disease - 25 years and nothing. What do you expect? Its complex, even for today's science.
