As a very rough experiment example, floating a piece of ice in a bucket of water, then spinning the bucket would cause the bucket (earth's crust/mantle) to move. The water (molten outer core) would shift a little, but not move much at all. The piece of ice (inner core) would stay roughly in the same position it was before you spun the bucket.
Isn't this how they discovered why Jupiters atmosphere appears in bands? Does someone have more info on this?

Interestingly there was a program on the BBC in the last couple of days discussing this.
You should try taking a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00v9kb3/Explosions_How_We_Shook_the_World/ as it discusses black powder in the mining industry and how it was replaced with TNT.

dont you make these with deuterium?
Some "old style" glow in the dark paint can be used to make one too I think.

So tidal forces dont wash the radioactive bits miles down the coast or anything?

I have only just asked the police if they would perform the tests. The lab say that it will take 10-28 days to get the results, so i wont known until next month. When i do i will post the name of the drug. Provided it is identifyable
Didn't you say the police would only do tests if they found you dead infront of some food? So i'm assuming you found another lab who would run the tests for you.
Could you let us know who the lab is and what they said?

Terrorists could hi-jack a nuclear-powered oil-tanker, get hold of the uranium in the reactor, and use it to make an atom-bomb.
I don't know a whole lot about how nuclear fuel works but i'm certainly sure there's a difference between weapon and fuel grade nuclear material.
Sorry to hi jack the thread, but media scare mongering leads to statements like this and the fuel in a reactor would really be only any use for a "salted bomb" dirty bombs designed to spread nuclear material NOT cause kilo/megaton sized city destroying explosions.
Saying that and considering the above, would the general populace be happy to travel on something the media would have you believe is a giant green glowing, x-men power bestowing nuclear death machine?
Hell... media coverage on nuclear power really gets my goat. :: angryface::

Funny you should mention solicitors. The person who is behind drugging my food/drink said i should get a solicitor.
If you know who is behind it you should contact the police.

I would imagine the only thing that would be "extracted" would be energy in the form of heat.

Should allow for 3 way fights between Pirates, Samurai and ninjas

It's Nitroglycerine. And while i'm sure it's simple to sythesise from nitration i'm also pretty sure it's toxic so you probably wouldn't want to handle it.

Are there any instances of a perpetual motion device that does not produce useful energy, simply only enough to keep itself running? A Stirling engine or something?

That is all.

The rarified atoms in outer space will very slightly slow you down with a tiny amount of friction, but the stopping distance will be very, very long.
What about radiation pressure, or is that the same thing?

So in torrent lingo the Netherlands are the "Leechers" of the world? ;-D

Too right! We might see how much the ability to craft a fine poem, or a knowledge of calligraphy really helps a fighting man.
I think perhaps you are thinking of scribes or bards.

Well it would really depend on the ninja's skills wouldn't it? You see, the samurai is heavily armoured, and therefore, protected.
Well...
I wouldn't say a samurai was heavily armoured, for one, Japanese steel at the time of the samurai ~ 1100 to 1600 AD was of inferior quality and hard to come by compared to steel of western europe. In this scenario i'd go with the samurai anyway as ninjas are indeed geared towards infiltration, assasination and spying and not all out warfare.
A matchup i'd really like to see is a Samurai vs the same time period equivilent from western Europe. Lets see just how those magical/Legendary and able cut through concrete Katanas are against full plate armour.

What is the general opinion on display of human remains in musems? Originally these people were given a burial according to their religious and cultural beliefs and it would seem to me disrespectful to exhume and display them for the public.
There's the argument of course that placing mummies for example in a museum instead of leaving them in their dusty, secluded desert homes is safer and saves them from destruction and theivery as "artefacts" but i still can't get past the fact that Egyptian mummies at the very least have obviously been dealt with ceremoniously (perhaps ice mummies and ones found in peat bogs could be argued differently; or is there evidence of this being a burial practice too?)
Although their value in historical research is undeniable i find it somewhat wrong for this to happen. Cases like Lenin, who was recent enough to give consent for his display I am fine with but I would like to see what others opinions on the practice is or if you have any further points you feel we could discuss?

If you had to convince someone that whaling is alright, that it's not so bad, what would you mention to convince them so?
Whales eat people

Come on, I know this is the lounge but really? There are more specialised places to ask this kind of thing than a science forum.

I I took a hit for the question on evolution too. I think the way it's worded is misdirectional in the way that it asks you whether you agree that evolution THEORY is true or false. I said false, as while I belive Evolution theory over some all magical glowing rainbow pixie it's still a theory ( How things happen, not that they do or not) If it was true wouldnt Evolution theory be a law?

I am refering to this experiment:
Though the banding isn't quite as prominent in other cases where I have seen this performed. Perhaps I am missing a certain criteria of the experiment. (something makes me feel this is the rotation of a certain aspect of the experiment but i couldn't say for sure)
