well if it was some kind of pill that you had to take regularly in order to stay young then i would give myself around 500 years not forever but enough to do loads of stuff like parachuting(again) go scubadiving get a pilots licence see the future etc. etc. i would get married in my last 60 years of life and the end it all by firing a malteser out of a particle accelerator and into my mouth. iwould not do this if it ment never being able to die.

the first idea: covering the area with lots of rocks, would only delay it. the second: a controlled release of magma, is just as likely to initiate an eruption as prevent one. the third: put something over likely release points, see the first one. fourth: mine a huge cavern to be filled with magma, it would have to be damn huge and would take centuries and the thing would probably collapse. if there is a large cave system nearby then it could possibly work. fifth: extracting energy, This could work very very well. in fact its a good idea. build a huge geothermal power plant on top of the magma chamber. the pipes don't have to go into the magma just close to it and we get some "clean" and enviromentally friendly electricity. only problem is that yellowstone is a national park and power plants of anykind are unsightly. not to mention drilling everywhere to put pipes in. and as the outer part of the magma cool to rock we would have to put new pipes in to continue cooling. it also might take too long to extract enough energy to have any effect whatsoevr on any future eruptions. just as an after thought: why does everyone talk about yellow stone as if it is the only potential super volcano in the world and as if it would only affect america. if any of the potential super volcanoes go off it will be a world wide disaster not a national one.

the microwave radiation isn't absorbed by a single atom it is absorbed by two(or more) bonded atoms wiggling at that frequency and makes the wiggle bigger. thats how a microwave heats water. only certain bonds will absorb microwaves so thats why they can penetrate to your brain without being absorbed. note: i currently seem to be obsessed by the word "wiggle" if you want this post to sound more scientific replace "wiggle" with "vibrating" and "vibration" respecively, wiggle.

what if (i don't think any human rights protestors would let this happen, but anyway...) you got a small colony of humans and sent them up to a large spacestation (or large centrifuge on earth which would probably be cheaper) that produced a 2g acceleration from rotation. and let them live there for a few generations. would the offspring adaptto the change in enviroment. i.e. shorter, stronger(in a 1g enviroment), maybe have a stronger skeleton although that is approaching on genetic evolution which would probably take longer. would this happen at all?

I considered a machine to be something that takes in energy in one form and then outputs it in another form. say a car engine input:chemical energy(petrol) output:kinetic But by the definition that you gave of a machine then a lens would be a mechanical device.

thats cos technically particles can't have a colour. Ate least in our spectrum anyway. A light particle (photon) of visible light will completely miss an atom. it would be like trying to detect a grain of sand with radar that has a resolution of 1m. individual atoms simply cannot be detected by visible light. unless you count getting a reflection from the electron orbitals. How is bombarding a sample with electrons and using a detector and then using a computer to process the image. isn't this how we see images with our own eyes. photons bombard what we are looking at photons reflect into our eyes(detectors) and the information is then processed by our brains(computer) to form an image. It is false colour the images but that is the best you will get.

right this should work. get a strobe light with a frequency of maybe 20Hz go out to the place you keep seeing the orbs and turn on the strobe. if the orbs are as i believe dust and pollen then you should be able to see them floating around on the wind. this can cause theupward motion seen in a previous picture. higher frequencies do work but then you don't get the nice afterimage effect that can make the dust particles seem bigger than they are. if its a bright light(not a strobe) then you will just see some dust floating around (like when you see sunlight shining through a window. they look big on camera because the camera is not focused on them so its all blurry (like when a short sighted person looks at the moon it appears bigger than it is cos his/her eyes can't focus on it properly, this is true cos i am short sighted and if i squint my eyes it appears almost normal sized.)) try this before claiming that they are dead people.
