As the title in the thread says, Incredible news...at least that is the way I see it. First attempt and success!

The other point seems to be that China is progressing at a reasonable rate, without comprimising safety and success.

Also the landing process and mechanisim seems less complicated then Curiosity...no sky crane. From the link....."A 200 square meter (2,150 square foot) parachute was deployed and later jettisoned, and then a retro-rocket was fired to slow the speed of the craft to almost zero, Xinhua said. The craft hovered about 100 meters (330 feet) above the surface to identify obstacles before touching down on four buffer legs".

Bring rocks back from the Moon, the beginnings of a space station, and now landing a craft on Mars.... they are doing pretty well I suggest.

Circa 1978, while touring an American tool and die shop, we got to see a set of 'die shoes' that were apparently bought(imported) from a Chinese organization. They were sub-standard and honestly looked like something from the Flintstones. They have certainly come along way. 'Good On' hard work; this should inspire any hard worker.

  6. iNOW, there is one statement starting with "Migl, I feel no anger...". The first sentence of that paragraph established the context of the following sentences. It is opinionated and I suggest it is an accurate assessment of Senator Ron Johnson's remarks made in the aftermath of the insurrection on Jan.6,2021 at our Capitol. As if you did not know, politicians "play politics", catering to their base and applying spin when making statements. Ron Johnson minimized the dangers that existed during an invasion of the Capitol with statements like,(paraphrasing) I was not afraid, and They were law abiding people. In my opinion these statements were meant to belittle the seriousness of a mob's actions that are responsible for  death, injuries and damage to the Capitol.

Looks like the quote function of the forum software seems to have given you some trouble in that post. It happens to us all sometimes, but if you need/expect me to respond, then I'll need you to please try posting your response again.

iNOW, my statement about Sen.Johnson has a reasonable degree of probability; no different than your statement about Sen. Johnson," He's clearly prioritized riling up a low information voting base instead of....."

Being safe, and 'feeling' safe are two totally different things.
One iis a reality, the other is a perception based on our biases, mis/conceptions, and life experiences.

So yes, he may well 'feel' safer, and be totally justified saying so.
You are angry that HIS perception is not the same as YOURS ?

MigL,  I feel no anger toward Ron Johnson but I do feel Ron Johnson's remarks about the events of Jan.6,2021 at the Capitol were politically motivated. His remarks were intended to create the impression that those who did feel threatened by the rioters were exaggerating the threat that actually existed. Ron Johnson did feel safe; he was not targeted by the rioters. Ron Johnson had, and still has, no concern for the safety of his political opponents or those required to protect them. The Republican VP was even in danger. It may sound cliche but those Capitol police and the 'Metro' officers were real heroes on Jan.6.....and lucky to have won the day...

I’m unclear what you’re trying to say in this sentence. Will you please say it again another way so I can respond accordingly?

I don’t trust anything as gospel, but wiki is itself extremely likely to be correct in most cases and it’s reliability had nothing whatsoever to do with my previously offered criticism.

Responding: My point was trivial. It would be better to continue on topic but it seems 'minimum wage' has fallen out of the news cycle and is recessed here as well. I expect interest will return in due time.

Addressing your point about credibility of a smoothy containing CaCO3, this is certainly possible if it is dispersed in colloidal form.

In my former work in the lubricants industry, we used to put "overbased" detergents in engine oils. These contained sometimes quite high amounts of colloidal CaCO3, which was useful to neutralise the acids formed by the combustion of the fuel, thereby avoiding corrosion of the cylinder liners in the engine. The CaCO3 was bound inside "micelles" of detergent molecules, forming a sort of cage around each sub-micron particle of what was effectively chalk, allowing it to remain suspended in the oil almost indefinitely.

I believe the same idea is used in medicines such as "milk of magnesia", which is used for heartburn - though the suspended material in that case is Mg(OH)2 rather than CaCO3.

However I have no idea what substance is used to stabilise the suspension in these cases.

Very informative.  Thank you, I've not one chemistry course and your post "hits the nail on the head".     👍

There are two separate issues. Does the product contain what is claimed (which was your question, AFAICT), and is the treatment saf and effective. The FDA would be involved with the second issue if this were a drug. Most supplements are not regulated in the US.

Was Ron Johnson born with a foot in his mouth? It seems Ron, a white man who supports former President Trump, isn't afraid of white extremist. Go figure? Are there examples of other remarks, either liberal or conservative politicians are making you can offer that seem completely thoughtless? Paraphrasing Ron Johnson, Ron offered he knew the rioters at the Capitol were not dangerous however, if the rioters were black then the rioters would be dangerous.

I need to correct my above post which should be  deleted for lack of interest and misinformation. Senator Johnson, senior Senator from Wisconsin did not use any reference to race or color of the insurrectionist. He does believe the rioters at the Capitol are law abiding citizens and he was in no danger, in his opinion. He did also indicate he would have been frightened if the rioters were from that other group(BLM).

Remembering this thread is about existence not actuality nor virtuality nor reality nor any other 'ality.

Processes present an interesting aspect of existence.

    That of time.

Finite processes have at least a beginning a middle and an end.

Unless these all occur simultaneously so the process is independent of time, the question arises

"Can the process ever be said to exist ?"

This is because only part of the process 'exists' at any one point in time ie at any present.

    One small point.

Whilst I am flattered that you choose to be so polite to me, I am not female ie I am not a 'Lady'.
I am sorry if anything I have said has lead you to believe otherwise.
I often say she did this or Jane did that as well as Jack did this etc, in order to promote gender equality in my small way.

and there is nothing wrong with that..

"in some sense" are important words in what I said.

On the other hand, if you can mention anything that doesn't exist in any sense, I will answer all your questions.

Harry Potter, the man I was or the dinner I ate yesterday, maths and concepts, a donut's hole, a particular region of space. Do these things exist?

    Does a shadow exist?

  16. Inow, I did not intend to offer evidence in a casual discussion. When I read the OP and the exchanges between members about minimum wage I inferred since one member started sentences with " I think....", another offered questions which you answered ,as I interpret as casual answers, and another offered " I don't like.....". I try to chose my words carefully. As I investigated this site 'SFN' there was an invitation to join on my screen. There were no limitations such as  credentials. I am not a scientist. While I intend to obey the guidelines if I, or any member begins a sentence with " I believe" or "I think", it does not mean they are ignorant as to proper posting in a scientific discussion. I see the "I believe" as a signal someone is offering an opinion and not offering evidence as argument. I understand and accept your criticism. I tried to cut and paste the one paragraph to explain my post but ended up with a very, very long image in my documents. I'm not offering ignorance as evidence. If there is an argument I withdraw. One point: you also edited the article and posted "more than $11" instead of the Wikipedia's opinion. I suspect you as many don't trust Wikipedia as being 'gospel'. "I believe" this will remain my longest post ever offered at SFN.🤓

INOW, did you read any thing I wrote? I'm sorry if you are offended. However, insulting me won't help under paid workers.  You're not giving a bleep about my post even won points. That is interesting. Anyone interested can easily 'Wiki' my post at Minimum Wage in the United States.

  18. I believe that more than 85% of American workers who earn minimum wage actually earn over $11 an hour due to different state wage rates. I'm just offering information I'm not suggesting $11 is a reasonable rate with today's food and shelter prices. Also any Federal increases to the minimum wage would be incremental taking perhaps a number of years to reach $15.                                                   Wikipedia/Minimum Wage in the USA

This would be an issue of a regulatory agency monitoring tests of the product. Does someone monitor such products in your country?

Yes, Yank here. I thought it would be difficult to render Calcium Carbonate to a semi-liquid. Tums do not advertise to have Vitamin D included. I am not offering an argument, perhaps my questioning this product is misplaced in a science forum. I think the term" smoothie" might have misled one member. Smoothies can be a flavored ice treat. I was questioning Tums as 'Phi for All' referenced.
