  1. It could be kind of like the Religion section. It does not have any subsections per actual belief or faith and I have seen no (rational, civilised) complaints about this.
  2. I wouldn't want to be treated differently. Why wouldn't you go on a rant if I were a woman? I understand you see them as manners but I would feel like you kinda agree with me just because I am a woman and you don't want to start an argument. I know you mean well but really, I don't agree with this approach. It reminds me when I am first introduced to the group of friends of my girlfriend and playing board games. They were being nice to me and not attacking me (in the game) because they had this level of "politeness" because they just met me. It made the whole game boring and uncomfortable especially when I won. (because of this behaviour)
  3. The planets in our solar system finished so the planetary mission ended and then began the interstellar one. Or maybe you mean: More here: Voyager 2 Change-of-course Maneuver Successful https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/news/details.php?article_id=66
  4. Currently true. I mean I can't speak about size when it comes to the previous POTUS but I do know it could fit in the first lady's purse.
  5. I was thinking about something similar. Even for someone with no knowledge of science (that made my day) you would expect (based on the image provided) that if it was indeed magnetic monopole the strength would not vary on the sides right? To me it just looks like this is caused by a magnetic field overlap of 3 separate independent (regular) magnets surrounded by iron filling as opposed to something like: Everyone knows that if you want to achieve true Magnetic Monopole you just take a bar magnet and cut it in half (very carefully as to exclude all the South part).
  6. Primate Readers Lounge? yihg500k, can you give us a bit more details about Dr. Smith and his previous work maybe? I am not familiar with the good doctor's work.
  7. Take your time, I will be here Siyatanush. If you have time you can go through the materials that we added above for a more constructive talk. Don't worry if you don't understand some things especially from the Hawking paper. (I had to read reviews and commentary on some sections as I could not understand few parts) Don't forget that we are not here to prove/disprove anything just to have an interesting chat.
  8. Your title and your description ask totally different questions. Both of equal childishness. 1) Title - No 2) Description - Of what happening? People gaining powers through the X-gene? Apologies Mods but I feel really offended when people misquote even comic book science. Of course this is science fiction. So no, superpowers do not exist. Most of all it's X-men not X-man. And just to clarify if you read my quote. Having an extra chromosome is not generally beneficial in human biology back here in the real world.
  9. Here is the paper you are citing: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1707.07702v2.pdf Could you please extract the paragraph in which he supports the idea of multiverse? (Not where he mentions the word) This paper became famous just because Stephen Hawking published it a few days before his death. Many physicist do not agree with the idea that there should be a multitude of universes as a consequence of inflation. You should wait for the feedback from a more experienced member of this forum but from my perspective it's nothing ground-breaking. Maybe my comment sounds a bit harsh or arrogant. I am trying to say that the media, as always transformed and hyped what this paper is trying to say. So I go back to my initial statement that this multiverse theory that you or anyone else proposes is un-testable as of yet.
  10. There is no observational evidence to support this idea. I wouldn't even begin to understand how you could test this. For the moment the people who really believe this are relying more on faith than science. The closest thing to science that discusses this idea is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory and more specifically https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Introduction_to_M-theory but this is not the multiverse in it's common meaning but something different.
  11. We have a Religion, Philosophy, Politics section. What about a Hobby section? Would bring some silliness and fun to the forum while also not interfering with the other serious sections.
  12. Not all people can change their mind. I am surprised by the patience of all of you guys that try to explain and I admire you but at some point it became ok...to suspend someone in this discussion at least for a bit. Just my opinion, all I am saying that if more people would behave this way we would need more mods. I think most of them are participating in/moderating this thread by now. I think we would all understand if you at least added someone from here in the ModQueue.
  13. Hey coffeesippin, this is a science forum. Why are you preaching these things here? You are more than welcome to stay as long as you abide by the forum rules. I am a bit confused on why you feel victimised. Frankly you posts might disturb some who follow a different faith or even the ones who follow the same one. Please think where you are before posting if you react in such a way to criticism.
  14. Religious website Patheos reported allegations of sexual harassment made against mr. Tyson to a bunch of newspapers. Thats why I mentioned religious groups. I can't believe I am mentioning them About the fake news stuff, I have read multiple headlines which state that he is guilty. And the one I mentioned just tries to add satire and humor to a very serious rape accusation which disrespects both parties.
  15. sorry DrP. I also am not sure but what I thought is that : liquid = glycophospholipid - so with glucose attached powder is just a phospholipid so without the glucose. I really can;t answer this but it's easier to use the liquid version as it's harder to dissolve the powder/granules.
  16. Can we please focus on the misconduct part? I really enjoy reading your point of view on this subject and less about politics. This whole page has nothing to do with the topic. For example I would like to discuss the crazy amount of "fake news" or baseless assumptions that I come across in the media related to this subject. Media is quoting religious groups opinions on the matter like it's evidence. I can't say what really happened but when media puts up baseless speculations as evidence just to sell papers...it makes me sad For example: Stuff like this makes me so disappointed at what the modern reader is interested in.
  17. Liquid is more fatty or oily while powder is less. liquid = glycophospholipids
  18. It's a long shot considering your previous posts...but do you have a source for this? Conflict aside, how is the government trying to eradicate the linguistic heritage?
  19. One thing I just realised is that I said he sabotaged the peace talks to get re-elected. I meant elected. I was thinking of the Ukrainian President when I mean the "re". But I guess that doesn't change my stance that he extended the war by sabotaging peace talks because he thought that improved his chances of becoming president.
  20. I wasn't expecting this high-jack haha. Nixon deliberately sabotaged the Paris Peace talks. He finally ended the Vietnam War, but only after extending it. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21768668 https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/31/opinion/sunday/nixons-vietnam-treachery.html Also check the pentagon papers, White House Plumbers etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagon_Papers Sorry to open old wounds. Nixon: The only place where you and I disagree is with regard to the bombing. You're so goddamned concerned about civilians and I don't give a damn. I don't care. Also you quoted the Vietnamization. This was just replacing US troops with Vietnamese troops. But I guess we only care about the "important lives".
  21. Wow, I never thought about that before. I mean who knows what would have happened but interesting thought nonetheless.
  22. You are tricky I don't have time for a researched answer but as far as I know even other EM waves don't interfere directly with one another but if you check the cross point for example, you get the superposition of both. Just because some particles don't interact electromagnetically is not enough to say that they are made of EM waves. This is a bit of a fallacy. Two galaxies gravitate toward each other (are attracted to each other) and so do 2 magnets. So they must be attracting each other electromagnetically. or A banana and an electron are both affected by gravity that means that the banana is solely made of electrons or the electron is a fruit. Where did you get this idea? I am not experienced in this field but I have never heard of such a theory before. I am curious what made you assume this. Just fun fact, electron density can be represented by the banana bond. (or Bent bond) Below is just a literal depiction of banana bonds in cyclopropane. The fruits are for humour purposes only. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bent_bond
  23. Haha sorry quiet, I totally misunderstood your post and replied dazed and confused. I mentioned charged but what I wanted to say is that some particles don't interact with the EM field. How could they be made of EM waves? Also what about mechanical waves? What are they mad of? Here is a table of differences between electromagnetic waves and matter waves: Electromagnetic waves Matter waves These waves have electric and magnetic fields associated with them. Matter waves have no electric and magnetic fields associated with them. These waves can easily pass through vacuum. These waves cannot pass through vacuum. These waves have fixed velocities. Matter waves have velocities less than velocities of light and depend on situation. Wavelengths of these waves can be measured easily. Their wavelengths cannot be measured easily. These rays are emitted from source in space. These waves are associated with material particles ,they do not exist without material particles. Energies of these waves are quantized. Energies of these waves are not quantized.
  24. If this was true then wouldn't everything travel at c? Actually maybe not but how do you explain neutrons? They have no charge.
