  1. Last day of My Polish Job today. So many days spent on the science forum from this job. I really encourage anyone who has not seen Poland first hand to visit and get to know the people and see the country. I will be back in my later years.

  3. Was bored and listening to a podcast with Brian Cox randomly and there was a question about online science related arguments.
I spat out what I had in my mouth and was listening carefully in hopes that he would mention swansont
    #WeForgiveButWeNeverForget
    hahaha

    1. koti

      koti

Wait, so he did mention him? I don't get it. I mean I get that Professor Cox made a really awkward statement (aka made an ass of himself) once and swansont was there to fix the awkwardness online but...did Cox mention him or not ?

      Silvestru

Sorry to keep you in suspense koti I was out for a bit. No he did not mention swansont specifically unfortunately. :(

  4. Why was this holiday turned into a shopping spree? Damn you Consumerism and Marketing.
I have to buy presents now and I don't know what to do. I don't even want anything! :(

  5. Important assessment tomorrow at the job. The topic is transfer pricing :(. Wish me luck! In case I fail send me a location under a bridge or smthn where I can hibernate during the winter.

      Yeah good luck.

Though I confess to knowing absolutely nothing about transfer pricing.

Thanks Studiot! Well unfortunately I am not much ahead either.  But an all-nighter might help.

  6. Even though I have not met any of you guys in RL I dreamt yesterday that I was hanging out with a few members from the forum. Really strange dream. You guys looked like rockers but dressed business casual and the setting was an office space. I don't know why I'm sharing this haha

I walked into a record shop once in the 70's asking "Do you have Wet Dreams" (an album) and the female assistant's eyes popped. :)

    3. Silvestru

      Silvestru

I really don't think it's politically correct to segregate and assume that the rest of the dreams are "dry". I think it's offensive for the non-wet dreams. :)

Stringy don't be coy, you knew exactly what you were doing !

I dreamt this morning that my kid is banging me on the head with something. I woke up and guess what, he was banging me on the head with a toy excavator.

  7. I miss the Medieval days where if someone was annoying you could just claw, mangle and thrash them in the face or be be mangled. Nowadays the people I want to punch are bothering  me via phone, e-mail, letters, TV. It's frustrating to point a closed paw to the TV screen....

Sign up karate. New season always starts in September. You will learn how to control your emotions and simply ignore insults (Bruce Lee "the art of fighting without fighting")..

  8. I was trying to be good and save money this year and I just got a big fine for 1 day delay in paying the car insurance. The two are not related but damn. Life has a way of kicking you when you're up... or down for that matter.

We don't have fines for being late. But they can refuse coverage if you haven't made payment, and expect back pay to re-instate coverage even though nothing has happened.
Insurance companies get to have their cake and eat it too.

new hampshire is starting to look appealing because it doesn't force car insurance on you.

  9. Which came first, DNA or protein?

    1. koti

      koti

I'm no expert but I was always convinced that various proteins and amino acids were present in earth's oceans before any life evolved. I don't think it has to contradict with the fact that in today's world its DNA that produces proteins.

      There is Miller-Urey experiment

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller–Urey_experiment

      Did you hear about it?

If you will heat, pass current (spark in experiment, in the real world thunderbolt, lightning), cool down, then repeat, mixture of gases such as CH4, CO2, H2O, NH3, HCN, H2, N2, O2.. after a while there will be created the all kinds of organic molecules, amino acids, proteins, DNA. e.g. you can make C5H5N5 (adenine) from 5 HCN.

  10. MTG gathering this weekend. The only time when Aether is real.

Did you try poker ? ;)

    2. Silvestru

      Silvestru

Doesn't stimulate the imagination enough. Poker calcifies my pineal gland haha.

    3. koti

      koti

Ok, so the answer is you didn’t try poker :P Two things that poker does for me is stimulate imagination like no other game and it melts pineal gland due to its sheer complexity and gambling factor :D

BTW, there's a lot of poker players who converted from MTG.

  11. Can anyone recommend a documentary that is not dripping with Bro-science and pseudoscience? Something light about food or anything like that. I watched too many Universe/Black hole/ Particle documentaries and I need a break. Any recommendation will be appreciated! :)

Thank you guys. I will definitely start with koti's recommendation. I forgot about wacky religion documentaries. Great!

It’s interesting from psychological and economical point of view...how they are able to brainwash smart (but empathetic) people into the cult and how they were able to intimidate the IRS to give them billions in tax exemption. I recommend this 2 hour interview with actor Jason Beghe, I think its actually more insightful than the HBO documentary:

If you want you can watch the videos this channel has to offer. The videos are short but they are interesting in their own way. They focus mainly on  the evolutionary facet of Earths history.
