  1. I stand corrected...said the man in orthopedic shoes.
  2. I agree, I don't think the lowering of the larynx is paramount for language ( I feel it's possible that we could of attained good communication without this trait albeit not as verbally articulate.) Sound association, drawings, hand gestures are all effective ways of getting a message across. I would of thought that 'when was the transition to cognitive thought and imagination' would be the question to the groundings of modern language. I might be wrong, but chimpanzees show no sign of creativity...do they ? Although cave paintings are blatantly copies of what early man saw, there is still a degree of imagination needed to convey their ideas onto erm...rock. Sorry if I'm babbling a bit...a little hungover today.
  3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A3577241 Time perception has a lot to do with relativity. Obvious link I know, but it's an easy read.
  4. I was wondering if this has any implications to relativity...at which point did I say it did? I'm going to google a few related topics, watch this space.
  5. I remember watching a programme, where they stated that a fly experiences huge dilation of time. For example if you moved your hand slowly towards a fly it would percieve it as motionless. How is this possible ? As humans, events can seem shorter...if we're enjoying ourselves, or longer...waiting for a bus for instance. We certainly don't see events visibly slow down. Is this just down to the speed visual information is being relayed to the fly, like high speed film ? I keep on wondering if this has any implications towards relativity...if events are slower to one life form, how do they fit into the frame work of another...obviously they do, but it's kind of bugging me.
  6. Oldies but goodies... What did the accountant do when he was constipated ? He worked it out with a pencil. Why did Nivea Cream ? Cause Max Factor. What's the difference between a dead prostitute and a ferrari ? I havn't got a ferrari in my garage.
  7. There's a lot of truth in that...I've had offers, but due to the emotional baggage I've been carrying around I wasn't interested. I can safely say that's changed now.
  8. I guess the transition from apes to humans has plagued scientists so much for so long, that they feel it's justified to run such experiments...maybe, I'm just guessing.
  9. I know it's possible to do product testing...pharmaceuticals / cosmetics et.c I heard a few people participated at my friends uni when they were broke. I think you get paid a hell of a lot for necking a pill and lying in bed for a few days while they see if there are any immediate side effects. I guess if it's a matter of choice then it seems more ethical...however the monkey's concerned certainly have no choice with the tests they'll be subjected to...albeit whether they're harmful or not.
  10. He's right up there with crazy frog in the annoying stakes !!!
  11. This really needs to be in the psychology section.
  12. Ignorance is bliss...just ask a chav
  13. tight= tight fisted also know as stingy, not willing to part with money playa= the same thing in the UK hood= erm hood, but we're well aware of the U.S meaning bling= generally means the same thing...if someone is bling they are usually wealthy but in an urban sense...lots of jewellery, car souped up with spoilers and a noisy exhaust...and a 'phat' sound system. Not sure about the other two.
  14. Guess I should of worked that one out...there's a famous BBC radio DJ who fits that description...Tim Westwood... I have several words for him, unfortunately there are minors on this forum.
  15. Redneck and hick being the obvious...I was wondering if there were anymore contempary names for the inbred. So how do 'wiggers' dress ? Are they generally considered as the lower class ? Incidentally there is a website called chavskum.com which was started as a joke, and the binners have taken to it like ducks to water...or like chavs to a can of cheap cider. The questions I gave are just a general guideline, any slang for any place / social group / object, anything will do.
