  1. I understand why you've chosen sodium or chlorine to become King of the elements ! But why would you chose magnesium ?? Is there also a special reason for it ? Just out of curiousity
  2. I've made a little table with the elements that you have chosen. As you can see copper and bismuth are winning with 3 votes, but don't forget ... you can pick just ONE element, not four or five !! For the moment I've counted every element I saw in the messages, but it would be better if everybody would choose just one element. Don't kill me if I've made some mistakes while I was counting. I was just thinking ... why not element 101 : MENDELEVIUM ! It was Dmitri Ivanovich Mendelejev who made this table actually. He's the brain behind it. What do you think ??
  3. If you had to choose ... who would be the King of the Elements ? In other words, what is your favorite element ? You can pick just ONE element. Maybe, if everyone has answered, we can nominate an element to become the King of The Periodic Table My King would be MERCURY ! The only liquid metal by room temperature, so dense and shining grey. Special but toxic. Beautiful but expensive
  4. Here are my favourites : Metal : I think Mercury : dense, liquid, shining. Or maybe cesium with his color of gold and also liquid but so extremely dangerous. Non-Metal : mmmm, difficult. Maybe hydrogen, so simple but so usefull. Or bromine, dark-red liquid with a lovely odor
  5. Yes, that's a great idea. But isn't there another way to produce bromine ? Would this work ? : 2 NaBr + MnO2 + 3 H2SO4 ==> Br2 + 2 NaHSO4 + MnSO4 +2 H2O And what should I use of equipment ? Should I do a destillation or ... ??
  6. Does anyone knows how I could make some Bromine with Sodium Bromide and sulfuric acid and MnO2. I also need to know wich glassware I have to use. (It should be done in a lab).
  7. I would like to make my own sample of iron. Could I make it with the thermite reaction ? And would it be pure enough ?? And could I use Al203 or CuO instead of Fe2O3 ?
  8. Thanx ! Your ellement collection is massive ! How much did you paid for it ? And how do you store your elements ? I think I'm going to make a sort of wooden book-case (??) (you must forgive me if I write some big English mistakes. I'm just a stupid Belgian sudent who tries to write in English ) to store all of my elements. It would be nice if the cabinet would have the shape of the periodic table with 118 little cases with the names of the elements on little metal plates. But I'm affraid it will cost to much
  9. Hey, I've just started my element-collection but I don't know where to search on the internet. Could you give me some internet-sites ? It would be nice if there were some element-stores in Europe (I live in Belgium) !
