  1. I stand by the numbers which say there is a very good chance that life exists elsewhere. If we will find it or not is another mater.

The thing is, the chances of there not being life elsewhere in this universe are very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very (almost inconceivably) slim. I just don't see how people can not believe in extraterrestrial life.

  2. If you are talking about the highly religious community, I highly doubt it. Most people are afraid of/scared of/against any form of science they don't understand. Those who know how evolution works and understand the undeniable evidence would never once think it could be completely wrong. But those who refuse to even try to understand how it works or what it actually means are never going to take it as fact. Take a... ahem... "friend" of mine for example. He is mormon (not generalizing, just giving facts). We are going over evolution in my biology class right now, and with everything we are learning, the unsurmountable evidence, etc. etc. etc., he still says, and I quote, "I don't believe in evolution." He refuses to believe that there were other species of humans and that we evolved from the same things as rats and the like. He also does not understand the concept of how life came to be in the first place. Not understanding the facts, he claims that God placed them here and that's that. My friend and I just want to kill him every time he opposes facts (which he does a lot). You can't teach people things that go against the things they have been taught since the day they were born.

  3. back in the day when the controlling factions said the earth was flat, any one who said it was round was stoned to death untill some fool sailor not scientist proved diferently.

That was simply illogical thinking further corrupted by religion. Sailors had little use of either the former or latter, and noticed ships getting smaller, etc. This also has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.

Maybe you are using the equation E = ½mv² but that is kinetic energy' date=' not what you want, I don't think.[/quote']

That's what I was saying.

  4. Control in dreams is called lucid dreaming and can be induced with quite a few methods. There is an entire community dedicated to this stuff here. I'd suggest checking that place out and visiting the forums. They can help you with controlling your dreams (lucid dreaming). :D

  5. Sorry if this has already been posted, but this has been bugging me for a while and a search didn't turn up anything. We keep talking about alternative energy sources everywhere when there is a constant energy around us all the time. What I want to know is, could gravity be used as a feasible source of energy?

  6. My father and I recently discovered that Sobe contains "chromium polynicotinate". He (who is a very intelligent person, actually) says that they are trying to get people addicted through nicotine and labels that say "LEAN". He went so far as to say you might as well smoke a cigarette. I tell him that most people wouldn't look at the ingredients and see a product of nicotine (as the last thing listed no less). You would just drink it and even if you did get addicted, you wouldn't remember what you were addicted to. Here is the description directly from the Sobe site.

    "Chromium Polynicotinate

A form of chromium that is readily metabolized and used by the body. Chromium is an essential trace mineral. Chromium functions to aid the regulation of blood sugar. The form of Chromium that is used by the body is called chromium III and is necessary for proper functioning of the body. This is chemically entirely different from the form of chromium that is used industrially and is called chromium VI. The dietary form of chromium is safe and an essential trace mineral. It is the industrial form of chromium, which we don't use, that has been associated with health risks."

Note that it only goes into any detail at all about the chromium. So I did an "experiment" last night. I felt no different after one glass of the stuff for the rest of the night. I don't feel addicted or want more right now.

    Any comments?
