  1. Ive destroyed plenty of glassware in my time. If you distill HNO3 you wont die if you use rubber stoppers and such but they definately do literally melt. If you dont care about your rubber equipment go ahead and do it if your doing it for a very small amount. BUt generally dont do it its just stupid.

  2. I rember we had this dilema before. With what you have I would try draining the idone as dry as possible, then getting ur florence flask vry cold on the neck with dry ice perhaps. That should keep most of the iodine from escaping and it should condense on the neck. From there u can just scrape it off

  3. ya she. but to find polarity you have to draw the molecule and find the shape (molecular geometry), then you compare the elctronegativities. For example, for H2O the shape is... bent planar. so then comapre the elctronegatives and you will see that the Oxygen is more electronegative and is thus more "negative" than the relatively positive Hydrogens. Thus, it is polar. For another compound such as AlH3, the molecule is a trigonal planar.

Thus, no matter what, it will not be polar because the charge will be distributed in no one direction.

For Aspirin it would be more complicated since it has no single shape.

Also, when aspirin hits acid pH in the stomach it actually can lose a hydrogen which can change the polarity to become more soluable. Since aspirin is polar in some spots, primarily the O bonds, its slightly soluable in water. C-H bonds are only slightly polar.

  4. to make the goo stuff in toys you take polyvinyl alcohol, and sodium tetraborate and mix them. i dont rember the exact proportions but when hey are mixed they form stickly slime. adding morepolyvinylOH will make it more stick.
