  1. That's incorrect protein is a fuel. Amino acids are metabolised for energy as well as building block molecules for your body. Anyways take the inuit for an example they traditionally survived off a diet of 100% animals. Though admittidly it was very high in fat content.
  2. I'm pretty sure it's antidisestablishmenttarianism
  3. Anyone know which nutrient/vitamin would most likely be the first to get depleted and cause death?
  4. Well the english one doesn't work then. try the link and see.
  5. Richardbatty probably wont ever hit the bottom of that pit.
  6. What exactley are you trying to purify it from? That would really help.
  7. The tree probably really isn't a tree.
  8. Demosthenes is a quick learner
  9. He he salivary amylase isn't saliva. It's the enzyme that you're looking for (aka alpha-amylase). You knew the name of it and didn't even realise it. THis enzyme breaks down starch (amylose) into 5-6 mer chains. This process is followed by an enzyme Hydrolase in the stomac that further degrades it into monomer glucose subunits.
  10. It says that solders have a melting point below 450. Those with the higher melting points aren't the typicaly solder that most people think of. They are not Lead/Tin alloys. And then it goes on to say that typical electrical solder ( Lead/ Tin) has one below 190c Which is far lower then both lead or tin.
  11. It's because the impurities disrupt the chrystal lattices of the parent materials. So yeah YT you were basically right.
  12. Yeah if you took the haploid amount of your dna attached the chromosomes length to length and held it out at arms lenth it would just about touch the ground. When you get to seriously long molecules the problem of getting a large one become a mechanical problem not a chemical one.
  13. The thought crossed my mind in a bit of a brain fart to add solid Potassium. But yeah don't even think about doing that, the above sound alot safer, and easier.
  14. It would be sweat if you have a flourogenic substrate so you could map the activity real time with some sort of spectrophotometer. We may be able to help more if you can tell us the exact kinase and substrate that it acts upon.
  15. There is a bascule at the centre of the universe.
  16. It'd be nice if you presented something to back this up instead of a just a link in Russian
  17. too bad the english version doesn't work...
  18. Hmmm well I'd imagine the problem to be that if you want to have two copies of the each gene as in humans you'd have trouble trying to express both sets of code simultanously. How would you go about deciding if a trait is dominat or recessive or co-dominant etc...?
  19. This is a very good representation of "genes" actually. Most of the replies that you have recieved have focused exclusivley on human genetics requiring two parents and sex. Mimicing humans makes little sense but to boost our own egos really. Different systems of genetics occur in large multicelular organism due to the difficulty in promoting diversity and evolution due to much longer generation times. For a robot that can demonstrate extreemly fast reproduction and generation times having two parental sources really isn't a necessity. What you describe is very simular to genetic change in microbes, and I think it would be good to stick to it. Heck you could even put some code into them that would occasionally allow them to transfer "genes" to another robot and see what effect that has and if this code itself would be promotted. Good Job.
  20. Hmmm I believe thier data on the pirates vs average globle temperature has been falsified. IIRC pirate numbers have actually increased!!! And temperature has stayed about the same.
  21. This is unbalanced. There is an extra hydrogen on the right side.
  22. Talk about off topic Seriously what were you thinking?
  23. Given this frequency of bases the sequence would appear randomly every 249151.8567 bases.
