Imagination Is More Important Than Knowledge
Daecon replied to SimonFunnell's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
Can I ask, what is motivating you to post on this forum? Why are you bothering? Is there a point, a purpose behind it all? -
I'm sure a comment about Poe's Law would be appropriate here...

Is it physically possible to have a superhydrophobic effect that repels specific liquids (such as acid) and not just water? I'm posting in Lounge and not science because I was thinking about a specific scene in Terminator Genisys and it got me wondering. Then I thought about if a mimetic polyalloy Terminator could render itself invulnerble to a Xenomorph alien's acid blood by reshaping its surface to be superacidiphobic (or whatever the proper term may be)? I guess we could just invoke the "magic technology" trope but suspension of disbelief has to be drawn somewhere.

The Real Genius Of Einstien

And your evidence for this is...? -
The Real Genius Of Einstien
Daecon replied to SimonFunnell's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
If it was true, we already would have. -
Well sure it was chance, it's not like there was a Flying Spaghetti Monster arranging the bases like a load of Lego. But just because it was chance, there are still physical and chemical factors determining which probablities are more likely than other probablities, so your comment about chance doesn't really seem to be an argument for or against anything.

So could winning the lottery.

What evidence might that be?

Sucks to be you if Hiduism is the True Religion.
-
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Just because there has been no definitive proof that life definitely exists outside of Earth, that doesn't imply that Earth is the only place in the Universe that has or can have life.
-
Well, the laws of physics lead to the laws of chemistry, which in turn lead to the laws of biology.
-
Or, conversely, what empirical evidence is there that Earth is somehow special or unique in all the Universe by being the only planet amongst millions of stars in millions of galaxies to be able to support life?
-
And what about every other religion out there? First of all you need to justify the claim that the Bible is any more valid than every other religious text, THEN you can move onto Christianity vs. science. You need to learn to walk before you can think about winning any races.

I would suggest that the Human mind creates and shapes perception, and that percepton doesn't always accurately reflect reality.

If we don't know how much pens or pencils are, if (for example) 10 pencils are equal to the cost of 1 pen, then Peter may still have any amount of money between only able to afford a single pencil, and enough to buy 4 pens and 9 pencils... And if (again for example) 1 eraser is equal to the cost of 1 pen + 1 pencil, that still doesn't help us chose the appropriate answer.

If it stretches the space between the mirrors and also stretches the light beam, would being unable to tell the difference imply that stretching a light beam is indistinguishable from making the light travel faster than c to reach the other side at the same time? That just seems... off.

Find the off weight golf ball
Daecon replied to TakenItSeriously's topic in Brain Teasers and Puzzles
Split the 12 into two groups of 6 and put them on the balance. Now take 1 ball from each group (you now have B1 & B2 in your hands) and see if the weights balance. If the scales are still unbalanced, discard B1 & B2 (because you know they can't be the faulty ones) and repeat the previous step. When the scales eventually balance, (they'll either both have x number of balls on them or they'll both be empty) you can discard all other balls because you know that either B1 or B2 is the faulty ball. Balance B1 and B2 against one of the previously discarded balls and see which of the two don't balance and you've found the faulty ball. Whether or not it's the fastest method is all down to how lucky you are with your choice of balls to remove from each side of the balance. -
Aberration in Michelson Morley Experiment

Considering your attitude on at least two other forums when given feedback that you didn't like, I have to wonder about what sort of feedback you are looking for.
