  1. I wanted to join you with my dragons, but they refused, saying you don't believe in them. If you just state that you believe in me and my dragons(who both fly ánd blaze fire) i can join you right away.
  2. Most people tend to use things when the benefits outweigh the "side effects" For societies as a whole, well, i haven't heard complaints about people reënacting some of the stuff they see on the internet. One country(Pakistan ? i don't realy recall) is said to have dropping birth-rates due to porn, still not sure whether this is a bad effect as many societies try to keep their birth-rates low. Benefits usually go unnoticed(there 's not going to be this courtcase against that would-be-rapist who decided to masturbate to porn instead)
  3. Sorry for my previous off-topic post. You can block all images and videos from the internet, you 'll only read (legal) texts and will miss on all the legal videos and pictures as well though. (theoretically you could still illegally read a copyrighted book, but i believe(?) that is only illegal when using the whole book, so get suspicious after a few pages)
  4. True that, people have been gathering knowledge in all kinds of ways for as long as they were around, and i think "science" is just a face we've put on - most - of that gathering(and storing) of knowledge.
  5. Who is this great inventor who made up science ?
  6. Would this inflow not increase as soon as the sea level of the Med lowers ? (and vice versa off course)
  7. A "view history"-button next to the "this post has been edited on XX"-remark would be an improvement.
  8. In Dutch we have the word u, pronounced slightly different from english, it's used both singular and plural and is more respectfull then jij/je(singular) and jullie(plural)
  9. This theory is wrong, it falsely assumes there is some kind of maximum amount of words in a book. What's more interesting though, you cared about creativity and you experienced this as a cage around your creativity, (or so i assume) so why didn't you start making up longer and longer words to push the cage back ?
  10. All animals(and so also early men) play, sport is a bit more formalized, but it's not realy different.
  11. I can buy a knife for €5 and kill someone. Unless the drone is going to make it particularly hard for the police to find me, i ain't buying. PS: they're already widely used, but usually their use is kept away from mainstream media as people mighy oppose the slaughter of other people.
  12. If you like to post crap without anyone downvoting it, go to Facebook. If you want to be part of discussions with a higher standard, like on this site, you gotta step up a notch yourself as well.

  14. in short: edit:then laws become fair if either we make them what we believe is fair, or start believing they 're fair. Lol, no, laws are no more true then school rules are, they 're just of a higher legal order. There are no international laws, only treaties, and, umm, how do protocols fit in here ?
  15. It'll be quite a while before we're at the point where we make nanobots that will auto-cure us without need for a doctor, in the meantime the # of doctors/medici we need/use will be subject to our socio-economic needs and wants. One thing i do notice though, is that everybody can be a semi-doctor nowadays; CPR is taught to many people, anyone can check their disease/symptoms in online databases and order medical equipment a 19th century doctor would be jaleous of. Doctors will be pushed into specialities more and more(it's where they can stay ahead of the common people) and general medical treatment is something nurses and other "lower" medici take over.
  16. I once had the opposite happening to me; i spilled (close to) boiling water on my belly, but, it first had to move through a few levels of clothing, by the time it reached my skin i was already dealing with taking those clothes off and getting some cold water, hence i did not feel any pain(i suppose i didnt need the warning) even though a chunk of my skin was burned. I have no doubt there are people on this planet who, in same situation, would start imagining pain before the boiled water reached the skin, which might actually make sure they scream/groin/autsj and thus get immediate help from other people present(i was alone)
  17. eliminates, determines, it's just a matter of perspective.
  18. Are you suggesting we are at a point where more doctors would not increase overal health/cure rates ?
  19. ? Are you confusing an itch with a tendency(brain function) to use the arm ? I'm not familiar with the, umm, genetic basis for this, but since we learn from the day we're born, such basis could be small to non-existant. Suppose a nerve of a cut-off arm still sends signals(an itch), then doctors attach a small device to it to stop the itch, but it has to be activated, and they put an activation-sensor in the belly, so you just need to rub your belly to get rid of the itch. Very soon the subject would start "imagining" the itch comes from his belly and he'll scratch his belly to stop it.
  20. We always find ways of making jobs more efficiënt, and thus we create new (types of) jobs. What we also do is putting higher requirements on jobs, and a job like doctor is prone to this kind of thing; We will want better cure-rates, no more 50%(or whatever percentage it is not) survival rate for cancer, but as close to 100% as we can. There will be more that we want cured, that cancer-operation has priority, but stopping the common cold would help us as well.
  21. Religion is not realy prone to change, but more about adapting to the "powers that be," hence any accidental styles at the beginning(for example just because somebody likes a style) have a good chance of being adopted as a "religious style."
  22. One of the powers of science is that everything is up for debate, and that's hard enough as is. Nationalisation can destroy this power whenever the people in charge feel like it, and then science would be nothing more then a religion.
  23. Doesn't order realy mean it is easy for us to make a model of it ? (whether this model is a scientific model or just a simple image in our head regarding something about everyday-life)
  24. Soo, the benefit is that people are forced to vote for someone who would represent their interests, which has somehow been established to be their region ? .... Here we get a list of candidates of all parties, they put their "strong man" on top who will get most votes, any votes he/she (or any other person on the list) has "spare" after getting one seat are given to the highest on the list who still needs votes for a seat.
  25. People will often attack what they don't understand, like calling it "irrational."
