  1. For any psychologists, psychiatrists or anyone with interests in psychology, what about this statement? "Anyone who is convinced that he/she has a depression, does have a depression."

what had you expected(??) , really I also think the reason based on your question. think/assume please what would you gain even if someone has been convinced that he/she had had a depression (?) what would we gain , what would be motre useful. also it is not good way , I also ask you the reason. I thought that it was illogical. but of course there may existence absence of information. I am not medical doctor.

I only ask the reason that caused you to think so.but probably this question would be highly important in psychology or philosophy( rather than psychiatry). if you meant whether it was harmful or good making her/him convinced he/she had a depression although he/she did not, then OK ,of course this is very bad,it is harmful. and realy good question. I also heard that this would/should be true as theoritical.(but not from academic literatures ,I herad it from professors whose expertise is psych...

  2. Big toenail got grown in and infected, base of the nail came loose. Gave it a hard yank, but the nail was still firmly attached from about halfway up to the distal end. Totally ripped off. I've never seen a toe bleed so much before. One of my worst mistakes ever. I don't think I've ever felt such excruciating pain before.

I sensed some sort of irrelevance in blue's reactions, so I didn't really know what to answer. So blue: sit down and learn English ^^

  4. It's not worth starting a thread for this: am I the only one bothered by the notation 120/80 mm Hg? Why not 120/80 mm Hg/mm Hg? Or 120 mm Hg / 80 mm Hg?

  7. So basically, the human brain is capable of performing unseen tasks, but our body falls short when the area postrema still makes you vomit while fasting after an acute toxin (read: alcohol) intake? There should be nerves from stomach to area postrema in order to inhibit vomiting while fasting after toxin intake, but hey, who're we to change who we are

Although not very Australian! I always found this amusing actually. Australians pride themselves on their excessive drinking habits but if you look up alcohol consumed per person internationally there is little correlation. We must not be able to hold our liquor, despite our stereotype of being drunks! :P

Sitting on your train at 6.50 a.m., revising your course of functional neuroanatomy of the basal ganglia, and while thinking about vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) in case of refractory epilepsy (it so happens I read an article on that), formulating a hypothesis on whether stimulation of certain nuclei of the thalamus would be a good treatment (integration of the class on basal ganglia), only to find out the very same day, during the first class of that day (a class on epilepsy), that this treat...

I've only had it twice so far: on my first flight ever, in September, and last year on a party. So I know it isn't something too bad, but still, very freightening at that very moment.
