It's a long held myth that the human body CONTAINS more bacterial cells than eukaryotic cells, but it turns out that's wrong and there are a similar number of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells in a human body, the vast majority of those prokaryotes housed in the gut. Not the cytoplasms of cells. Unless there is some very, very misused terminology, the entire "theory" is trivially dismissible as fundamentally flawed.

I would suggest moving this to the Linguistics forum, but we don't have one ... Notjhng is generally understood to mean zero, or no, 'things'. We then have to take a look at what is commonly defined as 'things'. A 'thing', in common english, usually means something that can be interacted with by one of our senses ( touch, sight, smell, hear or taste ). Quantum foam, on the other hand, is a hand-wavy description ( people are still working on quantifying it, see spin foam ) of the 'fluctuations' of spacetime at extremely small distances due to the HUP. The vacuum fluctuations ( an inherent property of Quantum theory and the 'source' of vacuum energy ) would localize ( relatively ) large amounts of energy in extremely small volumes and extremel short times creating ( micro worm ) holes and 'bubbles' of spacetime, such that spacetime would not be smooth at these scales, but look 'foamy'. IOW, there is no 'foam', and it is not a thing; just a possible description of spacetime ( the co-ordinate system, if you will ) at its most fundamental level. This is neat, but it isn’t really what the OP was referring to. For one thing, the object in question here is an entire strontium atom - not an elementary particle. The other thing of course is that this isn’t a visual image of the actual atom, but merely diffuse re-emitted light, after exciting the two valence electrons of the outer shell with a laser. That’s not the same thing at all. The atom itself has 38 electrons in five shells, none of which is spherical - I wasn’t able to find a good 3D diagram of the orbital configuration, but suffice to say it is pretty non-trivial. So the picture in the link is quite an astonishing feat (kudos to the guy who took it) - but it’s not a “photo of the atom” in the sense I understand the OP to mean.

Yes, I think you're proving your point. If you don't understand something, it can seem god-like. If you read what Einstein wrote and understand even just parts of it, it's easy to see that it's basically a set of assumptions that match observations of reality, and some mathematical consequences of those, whose predictions also match observation. There's nothing god-like about it. But if you don't read it, it's an unknown, and it's already been discussed that people tend to attribute what's unknown to gods. So it sounds like you're assuming that Einstein's work will become an unknown, but that the stories of Him or His work will survive and be passed on (with language, I guess?). But the same can be said about anything that's known. Science can explain lightning, but if everyone ignored and forgot that, then Zeus could regain popularity.

This seems to imply several unstated premises, without any of which the conclusion does not hold. 1) "Nothing can come from nothing". This seems to assume physical law (that governing the initial conditions for the BB) that disallows uncaused events. Even now, QM allows uncaused events such as the emission of a photon from a lightbulb atom in an excited state which has admittedly a short halflife but is hardly a direct effect of the excitation event putting the atom in that state. 2) "Something always" seems to assume time is unbounded and the universe is contained within it, which contradicts every model I know. Time is part of the structure, not a container for the structure, so talking about time before the BB is like talking about Earth altitude being unbounded, and thus material at altitudes of -13000 km and beyond being required to hold up my house at the top of the pile. I.E., the naive premise can be used as as a proof of the flat Earth with turtles all the way down with Earth sitting atop an unbounded altitude and not having altitude built into the object. 3) "existed" assumes that the universe has the property of existence, despite the fact that existence is not necessarily a property in all views (for instance, it is a relation under RQM), and the fact that no empirical observation would be any different in an objectively existing universe and the same universe without the property of objective existence. I am kind of loosely willing to accept the first premise so long as its status as an unproven premise is acknowledged, but my personal view does not hold to the other two premises which I consider instinctual biases, which is precisely why I favor said personal view. Given the three premises (and perhaps more), the argument is valid, but seemingly not sound. Disclaimer: Have not read the entire thread. Just my comments on the title. Edit: Another one: 4) 'from nothing' contradicts 'always'. If there was nothing before the BB, then there was no time before it. Time is something. So is the state of absence of state. This doesn't invalidate the title statement. It only invalidates a model of "There was once nothing in existence and later on there was something in existence" and I know of no accepted physical model that suggests that.

Problem is that here on this forum , very unfortunately , there are many who are here to spend time just scoffing at AND picking on newcomers like Fredreload . . .. . .
